The only thing this song is insinuating is that modern Christians have moved away from Christianity's teachings. The men who crucified Jesus misunderstood him, and now the same thing is happening again, only now it's switched sides. He wanted his disciples to practice tolerance and love, but that doesn't seem to be happening lately. Gautama Buddha founded Buddhism. He was a man that valued peace and taught his followers to solve things with nonviolence, a lot like Jesus Christ. In both stanzas it says that "In the evening his love will lead the blind". I think that Cat Stevens used this to tie the two together, as both are people he obviously admires, and both are loving leaders, even to those that don't follow their religion. |
