Nightwish – For the Heart I Once Had Lyrics 16 years ago
"For the heart I`ll never have
For the child forever gone"

Tuomas comments in interviews a lot that childlike innocence is a big influence in some of his songs. I think it was for this one, definitely. Childlike innocence is gone, and one can never look at the world the same as when you are a child.

Nightwish – The Islander Lyrics 16 years ago
"An old man by a seashore, at the end of day..."

So there's an old man by the shore, who has a ship.

"Sea without a shore for the banished one unheard
He lightens the beacon, light at the end of world..."

And he's pretty far out from civilization.

"The albatross is flying, making him daydream..."

He's led a full life he thinks. Has good memories.

"Now his love`s a memory
A ghost in the fog
He sets the sails one last time
Saying farewell to the world..."

But, all that was good in his life is now gone, and he's all that's left. So he finally anchors himself, putting an end to his travels on the sea, and in life, to rejoin his children and his 'princess in the tower'.

Nightwish – Bare Grace Misery Lyrics 16 years ago
The Little Match Girl is a story by Anderson, as themathkid says, and I think it's too coincidental; this must be what Tuomas is referencing. However I think he was only trying to imply that the girl in the song was innocent once, and has since lost that innocence. Nightwish writes a lot of songs about this.

MissApocalyptic is right on about Lucretia. Another reference to innocence lost and abuse of some kind.

"A figurante / This dance will hurt like hell"
A figurante is a ballerina dancer who does not perform solo.

"Forget if you think I feel ashamed / A wild thing / Never felt sorry for anything"
Well, the woman's definitely evil, and from the last few lines I don't think she minds much. She accepts who she is, whatever that may be. I also think the woman is explaining that she does to others what's already been done to her.

"Tragedienne" is a phrase which refers to an actress; a woman who performs tragic roles in a theater.

The Almagest is an ancient book which outlines the paths of stars and planets.

This song definitely touches on the planets and stars. Makes me think just how special we are to be able to look up at the sky and see such amazing things.

Nightwish – Deep Silent Complete Lyrics 16 years ago
binni's right, Tuomas mentioned that the ocean was in his mind when he wrote this.

Also, on a couple of occasions, Tuomas has mentioned that the phrase "ocean soul" is how he feels about himself.

Nightwish – Bye Bye Beautiful Lyrics 17 years ago
The song has to be about Tarja, but neoflame seems to be more correct. Tuomas once said this about his and Tarja's relationship: "Let's say that we had a special and emotional relationship without any romantic attatchments. The fire was burning between her voice and my songs."
Writing songs of deep meaning with only one person in mind to sing them makes a very strong bond indeed. I'm sure that only Tuomas and Tarja know what their relationship was all about.

Nightwish – Elvenpath Lyrics 17 years ago
Atagamay41 has got it right on.

"At the grove I met rest-the folk of my fantasies
Bilbo, Sparhawk, goblins and pixies,
Snowman, Willow, trolls and the seven dwarfs
The path goes forever on"

Also, the background dialogue about 3 minutes in is from Lord of the Rings. It's simply an homage to fantasy stories.
