Taylor Swift – Mirrorball Lyrics 3 years ago
I believe this is a love song from Taylor to her mother. It is a continuation of “Soon you’ll get better” from Lover.

“They say the end is near” - Taylor has always been pretty private about her life and we don’t know how her mom is doing with cancer.

Many of the other lyrics are about pleasing someone and doing whatever they can to get and keep someone’s attention. As if to Taylor she has done much of what she has done in her life to get her mothers attention and please her. And she still feels this way today - she isn’t doing it for the fame or fortune, but to say “hey mom, look at me! Who will I be doing this for when you are gone?”

Beautiful song.

The Gaslight Anthem – "45" Lyrics 11 years ago
I love this song and I am in the minority here on the meaning. The obvious interpretation is about a girl, but I can't help but catch the first first "Drop the Needle Again".

This song could easily be about a recovering heroin addict. What happens during with drawl from heroin? There hands shake and he's telling himself, drop the needle again. dance with your ghost, perhaps he lost a friend who OD'd, and he knows he cant' stay the same (an addict) but he also can't leave it.

Turn the record over is just another way of saying you gotta change, you gotta do something new.

I do think Brian has the intent of this basically being about a girl, but that is the beauty of lyrics, you can interpret it the way you want.

I've ever interpreted it as his friends are sick of him playing the same song over and over again!! I've done that and people are like, aren't you sick of this song yet!!!!

Foo Fighters – Walk Lyrics 13 years ago
I see this song as having two distinct meanings (or what Dave was thinking about when writing it). This has grown to be my favorite song on Wasting Light. Such a positive life loving song.

Meaning one:
About life on the road and being in a band, a song to your wife and kids about how it feels to be on the road, know they are at home living their life (your signal in the distance), and then what it is like to be home. You've been on the road for 6 months playing shows, seeing your family a few days a month, etc. Being at home, playing with your kids, loving your wife, "learning the walk again" and how great it feels.

Meaning two:
Just about the exact opposite. A song to the fans. Taking a break from music, then slowly writing and recording songs, knowing the fans are out there, getting with the band after having not recorded with them for 2 years, catching up, playing songs, writing lyrics...then...getting on the road and playing shows and how great it feels...etc.

The National – Son Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is fabulous. I have always liked it but never really tried to understand the lyrics until a few days ago and then came here to see what others thought. I agree with the someone who just died theory.

I think the song is from the perspective of god, telling the person who literally just died to come with him. The "how are the arms of your mother" is god looking down, seeing the mother holding the boy and aking him how it feels.

Beautifully sad song!

Arcade Fire – No Cars Go Lyrics 17 years ago
PS - the ending thing "Woman and children...lets go!!! etc."

I take that as another attack from terrorists happening and its the rescuers coming into the area and evacuating people. Sort of giving up on the dream of the peaceful place the children dream about and want to believe in, only to learn it isn't true.

Arcade Fire – No Cars Go Lyrics 17 years ago
I thought the meaning of the song was obvious from the very first line. "We know a place that no planes go..."

My absolute first thought is about 9/11 and planes flying into the WTC buildings. I pretty much take the rest of it to be children being the only people capable of truly believing in a magical place where nothing exists but peace.

Between the click of the light and the start of the dream is the part of that magical place. I must add that I think that line is one of the greatest lyrics ever written.

I also like everyone elses take on these lyrics. Especially the guy who says it is about the auto plant closing in Ontario. Totally possible.
