Death Cab for Cutie – You Are a Tourist Lyrics 13 years ago
I love the interpretations that have been given! Especially the internal struggle bit. On another more literal view, I have to wonder if this has something to do with Ben's own personal changes. He fell in love, got married, moved to LA, and quit drinking. I've seen interviews where he admitted some of his songs were about missing life in Bellingham (where the band originated) while he was living in Seattle, a place he never seemed to enjoy.

The line, "When you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born in, it's time to go," struck me immediately as pointing to his own move. Having lived a few blocks down from his old apartment, I'm sad to see him go! But on a serious note, it seems to me this may be a farewell song to Seattle and the life he lived there -- and a hello to the new, more upbeat life he's started on.

AFI – A Winter's Tale Lyrics 17 years ago
My first impression was Shakespeare's play -- winter, separated lovers, death:
King Leontes goes crazy ("a full moon") and thinks his wife Hermione (who could be described as "immaculate" and pure) has cheated on him and thus gotten pregnant. So he orders her death, the death of their newborn daughter, and while this is going on, their son dies also.
Now utterly alone ("a chilling silence"), he visits his wife's 'grave' (she faked her death) everyday and places flowers there lamenting how stupid he was before. His only comfort is a statue of her (which really is her just pretending to be an inanimate statue) and for 16 years he remains faithful to his lost family, all the time wishing Hermione would return if only for one night.
