The Decemberists – Rox in the Box Lyrics 13 years ago
It does specifically mention mining, but this song always reminds me of the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad; when the railroad companies reached mountains, they blew tunnels through them in a manner similar to mining. Plus, for whatever reason, the violin, mandolin, and accordion riff reminds me of a train's whistle, further bringing to mind the railroad's construction.

Also, the chorus makes me think of a countdown to the explosion of the nitroglycerine. I'm not quite sure how to specifically interpret each line, but I think in its entirety the chorus is about the nitro.

Los Lonely Boys – Heaven Lyrics 13 years ago
Whoever transcribed the lyrics only translated the bridge and didn't transcribe it. The lyrics are:

Tú que estás en alto cielo
Échame tu bendición

Barenaked Ladies – Same Thing Lyrics 16 years ago
When I sing the song, the last verse reminds me of the harsh bullying I often receive. I don't do anything to provoke those dicks at school, yet they taunt me mercilessly. It also reminds me of how some people are just bastards and do things that aren't called for. I don't understand the chorus or bridge. Anyone care to shed some light on those parts of the song?

Barenaked Ladies – Tonight Is The Night I Fell Asleep At The Wheel Lyrics 16 years ago
At first, I thought the bridge was about never being able to drive again, since he had basically killed the other driver. Then I found out what "posthumous" means, then I understood that the bridge was saying "I'm going to die. I've lost way to much blood to be able to survive this accident." And BTW, this all happened about 15 minutes ago. This perspective on the song is all completely new to me.

Barenaked Ladies – In The Drink Lyrics 16 years ago
That was the most bold, (to some) most offensive comment on this website. At least, that I've seen.

I listened to this song a couple weeks ago, and the only thoughts in my head at the end were 1. wtf??? and 2. Yay! Shoe Box! Seriously, this is one of the weirdest songs ever, even for "BNL" songs (some would say not really BNL because only half the band was involved in recording it). Anyways, I've now used up the comment slot for these two years. Don't even think about it until sometime in 2010.

Barenaked Ladies – Spider in My Room Lyrics 16 years ago
The song title is actually just "Spider In My Room", not "A Spider In My Room", but whatever. It's kinda like "The Old Apartment" vs "Old Apartment". Anyways, for a bit, I was wondering if Jim's an arachnophobe, and judging by the beginning of Sanjuro's comment, apparently he is. Kinda cool to be sure that celebrities are all human and not flawless (though these guys' music come pretty close!), and kinda cool to know that you have something in common with a celebrity or two, other than just handedness or hair/eye/skin color. Something in common with their personality.

Also, to zaphodwhatever, stfu noob, you're talking out your ass. If you want to be an asshat, that's fine. Just not on stuff like this where you can't take back what you said to piss people off. And no, I doubt I'm pissing anyone off because everyone seems to agree with me. Don't talk shit about bosses like BNL.

Barenaked Ladies – For You Lyrics 17 years ago
hey colum1225, what do you mean by "hits WAY to close to home?" If you're saying that the song is a repeat of the concept of the song "Home", then you're incorrect. This song came three years before Home.

Barenaked Ladies – Unfinished Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about how a person can't say what they've done until their life is over. I'm not entirely sure that makes sense though, but it's just my interpretation.

Bobo Bob, Kev wasn't diagnosed with leukemia until after Stunt was released. It couldn't be about that.

Barenaked Ladies – Take It Outside Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with Lukasa. His interpretation is pretty much my life story. Also, I'm pretty sure the second line of the second verse is "Everything's erased", not "Everything's a race". Unfortunately, I don't have the liner notes handy, so I can't be sure.

Barenaked Ladies – Take It Back Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah, Ed himself said that he wrote the bridge of the song after 9/11, and, though cliche, put it into the song five years later.4

Barenaked Ladies – Upside Down Lyrics 17 years ago
in the bridge, where it sounds like the midgets, the guys doing the vocals but not actually singing words are kev and jim. the one who is doing the high singing is Ed. who else? also, stop saying what you think the song is about! it's already been said!

Barenaked Ladies – One Week Lyrics 17 years ago
trying to relate the rap verses with the rest of the song makes no sense. they were trying to come up with something to put in there, when Steve suggested to Ed that he freestyle in front of a camera, so it's not like Ed wrote the rap part to relate to the rest of the song at all. But then again, it is interesting that you guys could figure that out.

Barenaked Ladies – Straw Hat And Old Dirty Hank Lyrics 17 years ago
yeah. he was referring to a .22 caliber rifle, and the shells, though usually used to refer to shotgun ammunition, can mean rifle shells. they don't even make 22-gauge shotguns.

wasn't the Pirate Ship naked track never released? Also, I don't understand the meaning of this song. Anyone have an idea?

Barenaked Ladies – Am I The Only One? Lyrics 17 years ago
I see that nobody mentioned more than that this song was to Ed's brother. It was originally about his future wife (they married June 1994), but when his brother died in a motorcycle accident, he changed the meaning. Also, one might think that the song is a solo song until the part where Jim comes in with the violin (?).
