Nirvana – Sliver Lyrics

Lot of people saying it's self-explanatory and straightforward, I'm not so sure it is.
I don't know if it's just me but every time I've heard this song I've thought "I wonder what really happened?". Is Kurt being deliberately evasive and choosing not to mention something genuinely significant that happened at his grandparents' house that day, instead focusing on mundane details like what he had for dinner? Did one of them die, or do something they shouldn't have, or was it the day his parent's split up?
The song intrigues me because of what it DOESN'T say, especially in the time between him falling asleep and waking in his mother's arms. It leaves me puzzled and curious, and the effect is probably greater than it would be if he had explicitly explained it in the lyrics.
Then again, it might just be about him being fed up at his grandparents' house. |

Lana Del Rey – Video Games Lyrics

I had been hearing the last line of the chorus as "baby now you're doomed" which I thought gave it a real sinister twist. Listening to it again I can tell I got it wrong though. |

Sigur Rós – Untitled 5 Lyrics

It's without doubt the most bleak, depressing and utterly hopeless piece of music I've ever heard. It makes me feel like I've just stood and watched everybody in the world die in front of me. However, that doesn't mean I don't think it's absolutely brilliant |

Sigur Rós – Dögun Lyrics

This song makes me think off the first few minutes after you are born. The song before it ends loudly and tumultuously, like the last few minutes of childbirth, then it goes calm and later on there's a wailing guitar noise that sounds like a baby crying. The title meaning "Dawn" also relates to this. Maybe I'm being weird but it's what it made me think of |

Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire Lyrics

I think this song is quite dark. There's some interesting lines in it certainly. "I know they're watching", "rattling bones", and what's the "feels like you're dying" bit about? I think I agree with the person who said it's about a relationship purely based on sex. I'm surprised to see people say the meaning is obvious though, ok it's clearly about sex, but there are other meanings within it I think |

Mr. Crowley, I came up with a similar idea to yours for what Untitled 2 off this album sounds like a few weeks ago, have a look if you like. I swear I didn't look at what you said first! Pretty spooky! |

"People kill me these days.
There's keys in their eyes
But they lock from the inside"
I love that lyric, it just sums up how you can feel about the entire human race when you're really down. You can find them baffling, frustrating, charmless and just want nothing to do with them. |

Far – Punchdrunk Lyrics

I think this is really cleverly written and possibly my favourite Far song. I just think it's about being in a cycle of working in a dead-end job, getting drunk, going into work hungover and doing this for most of your life, then getting old and dying. Pretty depressing really, but it uses the boxing analogy really well. The title introduces this, then there's the line "waited for another round" which has a dual meaning - a round of boxing or a round of drinks. "He waited for the bell to ring" - the bell in boxing, or the bell they ring for last orders at the bar (or they do here in Britain anyway)? Continuing the theme, the song references Paul Simon's "The Boxer" in the sleeve notes, which is where the "lie lie lie" bit comes from. I don't think it's literally about a guy getting hit, it's just about a life of pressure wearing the guy down until eventually he can't take anymore. Very subtly done |

Sigur Rós – Untitled 2 Lyrics

What I really like about the () album is that because it has no title, no song names, no sleeve notes and no discernable lyrics, the experience is purely musical and you can make of it whatever you want. To me, this song makes me thing of being lost in the fog, or a deep forest. When it goes into track 3, that makes me think of finding something in the fog which is magnificent, beautiful or simply a curiously, like a castle or something. Both are amazing pieces of music. |

Those are the lyrics to Hoppipolla, not "Sigur Ros" which is the name of the opening track on their first album, Von |

Wow, I had no idea it was about throat surgery. Not sure what I thought it was about, maybe being lost for words or a one-night stand. Just goes to show that you can miss out on the meaning of lyrics by not taking them literally. |
