"it started with a low light, next thing I knew, they ripped me from my bed, and then they took my blood type it left a strange impression in my head you know that I was hopin' that I could leave this star crossed world behind but when they cut me open I guess I changed my mind" I believe the first two stanza's set up, and explain a failed suicide attempt he's seeing a low light, I'm assuming possibly the light at the end of the tunnel, but that's a far stretch but either way he's dying, and they rip him from his bed, take his blood, basically they're trying to find out what's wrong with him and what he'd done in his suicide attempt when he says "you know that I was hopin' to leave this star crossed world behind" that's him saying he wanted to die but because "they cut him open" and saved his life, he says "I guess I changed my mind" which to me, comes off as sarcastic, and I don't really believe HE changed his mind about wanting to live, it was changed for him "and you know I might have just flown too far from the floor this time 'cause they're calling me by my name" when I read and listen to him sing this stanza I can just imagine him fading in and out of a conscience state where people are calling out to him in fear and trying to keep him awake and because its quarter of four in the morning I don't feel like finishing my analysis I really like this song though, so I'll finish later |

when he talks about how, the desert IS the sand you can't hold it in your hands etc. It reminds me of bush and this war against the middle east and how bush wants their oil, and we need their land to do that but the land is the sand and you cant "hold it in your hands" i love this song though, even if im wrong its absolutely beautiful |

I love this song, mostly the first four lines and ET CETERA! I love his passion mm the begining really makes me reflect on the world like its so soft and and cozy the way he describes it and then i love how he challenges his own lyrics and says we pretty much look for somewhere to sleep when the worlds already so.. willing? lol "come quick", theres the obvious perversion in this line of the act of cuming, or you can take it literally, as in, come here I need you, but the second line "you light that knows No Evening" reminds me how alot of couples have sex in the evening, but he's saying it doesn't matter when evening is for the person "I've a thousand half loves well worth leaving" - He could have anyone, I'm Assuming! the next line I actually think I hear him say "for HER to bring your madness home", i could be wrong, but I think the line means hes waiting to have sex with someone the next two lines are like a profanation of His Love and when this stanza repeats, I love his monotonous tone, like he's not in love at all anymore, hence the, et cetera |

because the person doesnt have mental issues, in older versios of the song jesse had written it used to go goodbye to sex, but he modiified it saying, goodbye to sleep, which is the same thing, and hes staying up to take apart his head and think through things, I believe its about trying to stop having sex, because of a bad break up, hence, goodbye to love, he then critisizes Jesus, which he does ALOT throught the album, but still holds onto his belif in God, [in all the background lyrics] and I believe what jesse is saying is take apart your head take apart the demons, that bring an ADDICT TO THE BED, referring to the sex he wants to have, but can't because hes not with his lover. and in the last few line about take me, take me back to your bedm i love you so much it hurts my head, those would be direct lines to the woman he misses but cant have |

this song means alot to me, and I agree with many people here but when sings "rolling me with care into your cigarette cause the God i believe in never worked on a campaign trail" i like to believe what he means is that whos ever rolling the cigerette is making it himself, not buying them already man made, and the god he believes in wasn't man made, kind of refering to the bible, which he critized previously in the the lyrics |
