I've always took it as to be about a girl who just settles with a guy she's not completely interested in because she wants to spare his feelings. But he knows her feelings aren't as strong as his and that she wants to leave. "And I'm just the ground that you happened to fall on when you lost your balance walking around in the rain." I think that's saying she only got together with him in the first place because she just got out of a bad relationship and/or was going through a rough time, and he was there. "And you got to your feet scratched your head and started to gather the life that you dropped all around me." But after a while, she realizes she wants and needs more. But she doesn't want to hurt him, so instead she stays. Meanwhile, the guy knows all of this and, like pansyisdabomb said, it's killing him. |

i've never read lord of the flies, nor have i even read all of these comments, so sorry if this has already been said or whatever. but, to me, it sounds like the song's directed towards a drug addict/alcoholic. i think the 26 days is the amount of time the addict is sent to rehab for. i think you're all taking the 'then back on that island' phrase too literally; i think it could mean back to reality, for when he gets out of rehab. 'how long will this hold?' = how long until he relapses.. hah but this is just my opinion. again though, i didn't read all of the comments; i've only quickly skimmed the three on this page so sorry if someone's suggested this already aha. |

I think this is about the stage after a break up when you sort of just say 'fuck it', and give up the whole love and relationship thing, and try to convince yourself that it's not worth it anymore. But I think at the same time he's still bitter about the whole thing, and he's still upset; i.e the 'why won't you wait for me?' part. Amazing song though. :] One of their best. TragicX- same! :] The part where he screams, "And I don't need you or anybody else" always sticks out to me. Ah, Mayday Parade is absolutely amazing; every song by them is perfect. I don't think I've ever been able to say that about a band; with them, there's not one song I don't like. :] I think this is about a relationship where the girl cheated as a result of them beginning to grow apart, and maybe she got bored. I'm not sure whether or not the guy means all the things he says though, like for instance the "Take me home, I'd rather die than be with you", because the lyrics say he does, but then the raw emotion in his voice when I listen to it, mixed with how I'm feeling, says he doesn't. I thought the schizophrenia theory fit better, but the lines, "What are you suffering for? Your pride or some kind of personal war? and will you throw it all away? For nothing more than a simple taste?" kind of convinced me to lean towards the drug addiction theory. It probably wasn't what they meant, but it kind of sounds like the peer pressure in high school to do drugs; "What are you suffering for? Your pride or some kind of personal war?" Like, is he doing this just to "look cool"? And then he says that he's throwing everything that he had going for him away, like his future and maybe even his friends/family/ect. just for the drugs. Ha, I'm wrong, I know. But that's just what I thought of. But before I focused on that part of the song, I was sure it was about schizophrenia. |

I always considered this song to be about several people, all going through different things but in ways they're still going through something similar, which is isolation and lonliness. "Scar tissue that I wish you saw Sarcastic mister know it all Close your eyes and I'll kiss you" -This person's hurting and they want someone to know they're in pain. "Push me up against the wall Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra Fallin' all over myself To lick your heart and taste your health" -This person is just caught up in trying to make the person they like/love want them back. "Blood loss in a bathroom stall Sounthern girl with a scarlet drawl Wave goodbye to ma and pa" -The first line of this verse always makes me think of a heroin addict, with the whole loosing blood thing. So I think this person is struggling with a heroin addiction, and has lost all her friends and family because of it. ("Wave goodbye to ma and pa." "Soft spoken with a broken jaw Step outside but not to brawl Autumn's sweet we call it fall I'll make it to the moon if I have to crawl" -This part's always been my favorite. :] I think this person is just dealing with trying to be accepted. Saying they'll do anything just to get to a point where they'll fit in. And then the chorus parts I think are to show that despite all of them being in different situations, they're all going through the same thing; they're all lonely and they all are struggling and are all in pain. But that's just my take, I know I'm probably wrong. :] |

But they're still denying something's wrong; "And convinced yourself that it's not the reason you don't see the sun anymore." I think this person was going through depression, and in the end eventually committed suicide. And when they say "How could you do it? I never saw it coming. // Take your time, take my time", I think they're saying that they never stopped caring, but they feel guilty sort of for not knowing what was going on, and for not listening. So actually I listened to the lyrics a bit more and tried to think of what they meant; ignoring the sarcastic love song, abortion, and cancer myths. And well I came to the conclusion that it kind of sounds like this is about him getting diagnosed with depression; I know I'm wrong, but that's what I thought. "Hey, Wait; I've got a new complaint, Forever in debt to your priceless advice." It sounds like he could be saying, him getting diagnosed with depression is just another thing for him to complain about to her [Courtney], and that now her words can't really change it, because now he's been told by professionals that something's wrong with him. It's seriously so weird how much this song describes me and my most recent ex's relationship; well the end of the relationship anyway. I think it's basically about how they've been together for a long time, but now they're starting to grow apart, and she feels as if it's her fault. "When I jerk away from holding hands with you, I know these habits hurt important parts of you", always sticks out for me, because I did that a lot with my ex; not because I didn't like/"love" him, but because I was scared. I think the "I just want back in your head" lines, mean she wants him to treat her how he used to; like maybe he never compliments her anymore or does little things anymore, so she feels as if he doesn't love her anymore. "Remember when I was sweet and unexplainable? Nothing like this person, un-loveable." I think she's calling herself "un-loveable" now, because she's feels as if she's changed from how she was at the beginning of their relationship, she thinks that's why he's no longer treating her the same. However, I'm probably completely wrong because I'm basically just applying my last relationship to the meaning, because that's what I think of when I listen to this song. So sorry about the like ten references to my ex; I hate when people do that atually, so it's probably really annoying. But that's what I think it's about. :] |

I think he's trying and trying to make himself change, so that others will like him. But he's scared, of their opinions and what will happen. But he's pushing himself to just do it, and sort of 'face his fears'. But he keeps hesitating and stalling, so he feels like he hasn't even gotten anywhere, despite feeling like he has.
