LCD Soundsystem – I Can Change Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"But maybe that's just what your lover finds all night" I always heard: "But maybe that's just your love of fights. All night." - Implying that when they fight they do it all night. Yeah. |
Radical Face – Severus And Stone Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song is amazing. |
The Antlers – Wake Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I found this from an interview with Peter Silberman on the song: "The first half of that song is the narrator speaking to his friend, kind of atoning, apologizing. The second half, the “don’t be scared to speak” part, is the narrator talking to himself and talking to anyone." Interesting stuff. Love this song. So beautiful and heart-breaking. |
Radiohead – True Love Waits Lyrics | 14 years ago |
In the version Thom Yorke played at Latitude Festival recently, it sounds like he's saying "your babies", not "you be at peace". Maybe he's talking about starting a family with this person, and agreeing to raise the children a certain way (ie, with a religion / without one etc.) because he loves her. Also, I think it sounds like: "Your crazy kitten smile", as in this girl has a cute smile. That's what I hear anyway. Beautiful song. |
The Airborne Toxic Event – Sometime Around Midnight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i like how the song's in second person. |
Frightened Rabbit – The Modern Leper Lyrics | 15 years ago |
*relationship |
Frightened Rabbit – The Modern Leper Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is a very sad song. To me it seems to be about a guy who hates himself and is quite self-destructive, and so cant understand why a girl loves him. Yet there's hope: She's "not ill" (mentally ill) so there must be something in him worth loving, and he's "not dead", i.e. he hasnt killed himself. So they start again and try and make their relationship's normal/stable ("you can tell me all about what you did today"). |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Glue (The Gerbils cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song means a lot to me. Apologies, I haven't heard any of The Gerbils' stuff, but is that Scott Spillane singing with Jeff Mangum? |
Elbow – The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song almost makes me cry every single time I hear it. I think it's something to do with Guy's delivery of certain lines. It's just heart-breaking. |
Wild Beasts – Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I have no idea what the lyrics mean but this song is great, particularly Hayden's vocal performance! |
Wild Beasts – His Grinning Skull Lyrics | 16 years ago |
'I'll eat this young whelp's heart I will' 'I'll eat this young whelp's heart I will' 'I'll eat this young whelp's heart' ^For me the most heart-breaking musical moment of 2008 so far. |
Bat for Lashes – Bat's Mouth Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I always the thought the song was about a girl being ready to lose her virginity (e.g. "she is sure"). Bat for Lashes' best song in my opinion. Breath-taking. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – The King of Carrot Flowers Pts. 2 and 3 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Just to clear things up, on the lyric sheet (which are all written without any full stops or capital letters), this is written INSTEAD of the "I love you Jesus Christ" bit : "and now a song for jesus christ and since this seems to confuse people i'd like to simply say that i mean what i sing although the theme of endless endless on this album is not based on any religion but more in the belief that all things contain a white light within them that i see as eternal" There you go. Now stop arguing. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Don't really want to get into this properly; I just want to say that I think this is possibly the best song ever and also that parts of LuckyMonkey's post really affected me. Basically I believe it is a song, put overly simply, about Love and Death. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Song Against Sex Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I always aim to put this song on at parties whenever they have that 'mood'. The amazing is is I was feeling exactly like this about sex in these modern times and talked to one of my best friends about it... Then I read these lyrics and it turns out Jeff Mangum has already written about it more beautifully and effectively than I could ever write. Particularly like: "But don't take those pills your boyfriend gave you You're too wonderful to die" ..and: "So why should I lie here naked When it's just too far away From anything we could call loving Any love worth living for So I'll sleep out in the gutter You can sleep here on the floor" AMAZING. NMH are the best band ever I think. |
Frog Eyes – Bushels Lyrics | 16 years ago |
*bit (not but |
Frog Eyes – Bushels Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I have no idea what this song is about but it's SO good. Best song I've heard all year. I can identify with the "London, you're cold" but in a way because I live in London and it's not only actually cold but mataphorically "cold", i.e. hollow and souless, as well. |
Bat for Lashes – Bat's Mouth Lyrics | 16 years ago |
http://www.batforlashes.com/furandgold/ It says all the lyrics there - but... what is it about? |
Silversun Pickups – Rusted Wheel Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the vocal delivery on this song is amazing. Hea928 pretty much hit the meaning on the nose there: about the inability to move on and let go of his unrealistic dreams or ideals. I think the lyrics about the seasons and the "lump in my throat" and "bugs" thing illustrate that every year is the same for him and he gets the same feelings and sees the same things. i.e. nothing changes. I really love the 'rusted wheel' metaphor as well. |
Silversun Pickups – Dream at Tempo 119 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Don't open your hhh-eyes!" Great song. I think it's Brian basically describing a dream he had. The "splintered clothes", "wooden bones" and "limbs and leaves" are talking about some kind of tree-woman who has connections with his youth... or something like that. |
Gorillaz – Demon Days Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song kind of sums up everything the album is about - modern life examined by someone going through a night. For example the "Mother Earth wants us all to leave" is talking about how we are damaging the environment and all that malarkey and "can't even trust the air you breath" is talking about the lies everywhere, from the media to world leaders and about the paranoia that comes with it. Then again I can';t even hear half the lyrics properly, so I'm probably wrong. Who here sings this at the top of their lungs whenever they hear this song? Just me? ...Alright then. |
Gorillaz – Double Bass Lyrics | 17 years ago |
rogues-revenge the exact same thing happened with me, but there was no Zelda. And I call myself a gorillaz fan... |
Gorillaz – 5/4 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is about absolutely nothing. |
Subtle – F.K.O. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
You missed out the bit where they say: "Fuck Kelly Osborne" after "...the rich folks want". Great song. Great bassline too. |
Arctic Monkeys – Do Me a Favour Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yeah I saw it in black and white too! ...Ok, I'm calm now... I think Something3K got the meaning perfectly. And the big post-rock crescendo is awesome in this song. Love it. |
Arctic Monkeys – If You Were There, Beware Lyrics | 17 years ago |
,tAn-x was right: "The thieves help the thugs as they're trying to beat the good grace of a sweetheart out to the point she'll comply." "Why? Leave her on her own, if I'd have known, I wouldn't have said it, I wouldn't have said it, if I would have known." This, in my opinion, is definately one of the best songs on the album, together with 'Do Me A Favour'. The meaning is clear so I thought I'd just say that. |
Radiohead – A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with the people here that think it is more of a straight-forward story (in a way) about a guy who has got involved with some gangsters and needs to pay them money he hasn't got and they're thretening him. Or something to that effect. Great song though. |
Arcade Fire – Wake Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
When I saw them live and Win sang "Hold your mistake up", all the brass players held up their instruments above their heads. It was a "lol" moment. They were amazing. I really relate to this song as I feel the first part is about the tragic loss of innocence, the bitterness you feel afterwards ("Something filled up my heart with nothing") and looking back and noticing your naivity. I think the fact that he can see it's a lie when his heart is "colder" really says to me: ignorance is bliss. |
Wolf Parade – You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I always thought the rhythm and the way he sang emphasised the stress he feels that he is turning into his father ("I am my father's son") and the thing about early in the morning and the night indicates how he has gradually changed into his father as his life went on. ...Probably not though. Anyway, Wolf Parade are one of my favourite bands ever - they amaze me. |
