The Troggs – Wild Thing Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, I think the sound of this song is great, always have, but come on, folks! "You make Ev'ry - Thing. . . . . .groovy"? Doesn't that strike you as a little lame? I've always wondered if the song was a sendup of some sort.

The Animals – House Of The Rising Sun Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, I have several problems with this song as the Animals sing it.

For one thing, the Boy never explains exactly what kind of fix he's in. Nor exactly what is going on in the House. Then he makes side comments about his mama the tailor and his daddy the gambler - all without saying what they have to do with his problem, whatever it is.

Mind you, I don't mind a song that implies, or a song that hints, or a song that's heavy on the mood or emotions. But a song that purports to tell a story should TELL the STORY. This one doesn't say anything much.

I've been half-listening to this one for forty years on the radio now and always thought that I hadn't caught part of the song because the story wasn't complete. But no, there isn't anything more to it. I get the idea there were more explanatory verses cut from the release but the ones shown above don't really make the song clearer. Oh well.

Neil Young – Old Man Lyrics 17 years ago
My opinion is that "Old Man" is not a young man's point of view of an old man nor his father. The song is an old man's point of view or perception of either his son or himself at a younger age. My reason: "Old man take a look at my life. I'm a lot like you were." Also "twenty-four and so much more." An old man's POV would recognize a similar young man.
