Tears for Fears – Shout Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree, this is pretty much a general song. Orzabal did say he wrote this as a protest song and for him he found it therapeutic to sing "these are the things I could do without". It could be a lot of things but it's a general song basically to protest of things that seem to pose a danger to quality of life and it just so happen that at that time "nuclear weapons" definitely were one of the things people could do without. In the present time, the list of things people could do without would probably be longer as ironically there are more b.s. today.

Tears for Fears – Head Over Heels Lyrics 14 years ago
THIS SONG FOR ME WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT SANS DONNIE DARKO~ Basically a love story of a geeky guy and a geeky girl(based on the video). Basically a geeky guy is describing his feelings of love, something he did not understand at first, all he knew was something happened and he was head over heels. That kind of charm was so unique at that time people now have no idea what it is. It's a more charming ,sweet and poignant perspective of love than any movie's interpretation.

Tears for Fears – Pale Shelter Lyrics 14 years ago
even though Roland says this song is about a parent, for me it can be about anything that describes a relationship built on supposed trust but at the same time is also abusive one. This song relates to me not so much in the parental level...surprisingly only after how many years after I was able to look at it that way...it's an adolescent song but my insights came when I became an adult.

won the war but lost the battle, lost the war but won the battle

I love the ironies played in this song, in most of TFF songs actually--

Tears for Fears – Cold Lyrics 14 years ago
my temperatures been rated and I'm cold. I think he is doing a sarcastic take on how others have this preconceived idea of you and expect you to actually fit in that. He is being sarcastic but he is also giving a true statement--it's so easy to judge others and expect them to act in a way you want them to---most especially celebrities or high profile personalities.

Tears for Fears – Mad World Lyrics 14 years ago
I also prefer TFF's version as they always put more layers on how they do a song. The upbeatness of it all is actually kind of their sarcasm, which in a way adds humor in the "mad world" they saw. Not to forget Roland Orzabal's dancing and how it also adds more layers in the original video. But a very literal world now will often miss that and prefer things straightforward and plain, which doesn't add much to the adventure of enjoying a multi layered song such as this one.

The Gary Jules version is good. But I would always give credit to Roland Orzabal for writing this amazing song.

I think this song is a classic, very inspirational. I also love the remix version. My 10-year old young relative loves it too. I wish Michael could come up with more wonderful songs such as this.

Michael Jackson – Black or White Lyrics 15 years ago
I love the video especially Mike was dancing with different cultural/ethnic dances and he adds his own groove to them, way cool!!!

It talks about how our decisions are made more difficult because you take in to consideration a lot of factors like races, colors etc. I think there is some reference to himself that despite being black he doesnt' have to be taken as a second class act and talks about equality. But if you are thinking about his baby , which for me can be taken as his music, whatever color you are you can enjoy his music just as well. And don't tell me you agree with me can be referred to as for those who say he is cool but at his back say bad things about him...I saw you kicking dirt in my eye. Baby can mean many things, his music, his career or just being simply his friend. His career flourished in a multi-racial multi-cultural society and he must have made very tough decisions taking everything into consideration. It is just so sad in his effort to diminish the lines of separation, I think he suffered in the process, manifesting it also physically, that is probably one of his quirks as an artist but much respect should still be given to him, to his dedication, passion, talent and simply just for excellently and fascinatingly sharing his artistry.

Michael Jackson – Ghosts Lyrics 15 years ago
I haven't watched the short film/video but parts on youtube and was surprised to find it amusing and fun. The ghost and ghouls represent the unrelenting elements that try to disturb our peace much like what MJ was going through. Somebody said that he somewhat deserved it, maybe, but I don't agree to how low they have gotten to it Michael presents a funny way of dealing with it and thinly suggest, you scare me or are you scared because of your jealousy. I think it shows a lot of sense of humor on his part.

The White Stripes – Wasting My Time Lyrics 17 years ago
At first I thought what a cynical song. Then I realized I know someone who I can sing this song to. Then I just snapped out of my "wasting time" mode for someone who kept me hanging on. Snap! All of a sudden, it's time to say goodbye.

Wish Jack would write more songs like this and "Do". Simple, short but not lacking in thought--no frills.

The White Stripes – The Denial Twist Lyrics 17 years ago
So now you're left denying the truth
And its hidden in the wisdom in the back of your tooth

How i love these lines.

The truth is just somewhere around ourselves hidden because we just choose to hide it and it doesn't make a noise. Funny but true.

The White Stripes – Red Rain Lyrics 17 years ago
Artbeat- this song is like a mystery for solving with clues that don't seem to connect. Your bits and pieces seem "most likely" to help connect them altogether.

There are live performance clips that sometime Jack substitutes "I'm the blood, you're the vein" in place of "in the red, in the rain" repeating it. Sort of gives another angle to the song, no? Some thoughts? Anyone?

The White Stripes – Do Lyrics 17 years ago
First, I like how this song is just so unpretentious with just One word made up of just Two letters but means volumes.

The title itself would seem as if the singer (Jack) will exult the virtue of being proactive by saying--"Do." But as you move to the lyrics it is more of being influenced by what is surrounding you into doing--people saying hello to you, walking next to you and then further on into being robbed of your own thoughts with--"when these feeling start to feel like mine, they're taken from me it seems to happen everytime.". Then when you move on to the next verse--there's deprivation of validation--" and those feelings that are fine for you there's somebody there who doesn't think they are true, so think of something new, there's nothing left to do." Influences can either move you to do or unmove you to not do.

This song typically illustrates what young adults or adolescents go through as they move on to the stage of being an adult, sort of illustrates their growing pains.
Their identities where formed by these outside influences and now that these influences seem to turn in on to them, they go through the painful transition of "what now? what will I think? what will I do?"

This is further boosted by the last verse " my idols walk next to me, I look up and then they fade away, saw destruction of a mystery the more I listen to what they say"---smells like disillusionment. So, now who's going to guide them--"can you tell me what I am supposed to do?"

You can see the sense of frustration in the lyrics but I find this song to be cathartic to anyone who underwent similar things (like me...perhaps?) That is why I give this song a grade A+ and would gladly use it for anybody who underappreciates the White Stripes. Furthermore, I like how this song just talks about one's frustration without being destructive. That's added points for such a song. There's anger there, but there's no pessimism nor cynicism. That's just how the song is to me.
