Laura Marling – Rambling Man Lyrics 9 years ago
My favorite part, which is not included for some reason...

"It's funny how the first chords that you come to
are the minor notes that come to serenade you
and it's hard to accept yourself as someone you don't desire
as someone you don't want to be"

I think in the context of if this song, if it is about trying to accept to yourself as someone who is aging and eventually going to die... The first part mean that it is the small personal memories rather than big life events that comfort you in old age. The last part is about looking in the mirror and not liking what you see. But then if you relate it to the chorus, she is saying that she is giving in but "I was who I am" I think means she knows she's still the same person. But anyway, I just love the way she sings this middle part, it's so soft and melancholic.

Daughter – Smother Lyrics 11 years ago
I completely agree, I can't believe I didn't see the suicide connotation before! "In the darkness I will meet my creator" certainly indicates death. When she says "I'm sorry if I smothered you" that's actually very sad if she means that in a "I'm sorry for being useless and taking up your time." Also before that I think she actually says "I'm alone" which is certainly how someone would feel when they are depressed. This song is just so depressing and beautiful at the same time.

Daughter – Smother Lyrics 11 years ago
It sounds like someone who has just come out of a relationship. Most likely the other person ended it. Yet they are the ones apologising. They care about this person so much they were probably a bit too overbearing in the relationship. So now they feel ashamed. She feels like she should just go quietly and she wishes she’d never been born.

Daughter – The Woods Lyrics 11 years ago
Excellent interpretations. Don't have anything to add really. I like that the lyrics seem to have a sinister side. Also these lines...

"And we were trying to stop the winter
Killing all it could
Killing all it could"

Seem to suggest to me how humans try to control everything..but some things are beyond our control. They are in the hands of perhaps God or perhaps even nature or just chaos.

Radiohead – Fake Plastic Trees Lyrics 12 years ago
There are so many comments and I can't read them all but I'm going to say what I think anyway. On the surface it seems to be about a stereotypical young woman who gets too much plastic surgery to make herself look good and her plastic surgeon husband. But I think you could bring it a little deeper and say it's about two people in a reltionship who feel like they have to fake how they really feel, I suppose make themselves look happier with each other than they really are? That I guess is where the "It wears him/her out" bit comes in and "If I could be, who you wanted." Having to fake all the time and covering up how they really feel is wearing them out.

Ed Sheeran – The A Team Lyrics 13 years ago
I love this song. It makes me feel very sad, but also more appreciative of what i have. A lot of the meaning is very clear, it's about a drug addict prostitute. I think when it says she in the class A-Team, he is probably talking about what the men who sleep with her say about her. They probably recommend her to friends etc.
"Cos we re just under the upperhand"
I think maybe this is talking about how she is on the street and she can see everyone else living a normal life. She lives amongst these people, she can see it but she can't live like that, she is just under the upperhand?
When it says "For angels to fly" I think this could be about trying to get out of this life, she can't spread her wings and fly, she's trapped. Then when it says "an angel will die" he's probably talking about her dying from an overdose, which we see in the video.

Shakespear's Sister – Stay Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree. I think the song is about death is general. It could apply to suicide the most, but I think mainly it's about the singer pleading with their dying lover to stay with them. Even if they don't actually have a choice in death, they are still pleading for them not to go.

Britney Spears – Everytime Lyrics 13 years ago
The simplicity of this song is part of it's charm. I think it makes the song more relatable and therefore has a bigger emotional impact. It's almost like she's too heartbroken to even think clearly. All she can ever think is "I guess I need you baby..." If she was speaking in metaphors I don't think her pain would be conveyed quite as well.

In This Moment – Beautiful Tragedy Lyrics 13 years ago
This is a quote from Maria Brink “I kept thinking of these funerals where there are family members who haven’t talked to each other for years. And then, when they lose someone, suddenly everyone loves each other. Sometimes, something dark brings out something beautiful.”[

In This Moment – Beautiful Tragedy Lyrics 13 years ago
This song seems to me about a possible fear of death. Death can be both beautiful and a tragedy. Or maybe it's more about a mixture of fear and anticipation of death. It can also apply to a change you are not looking foward to, but is necessary. An event you have no control over, coming to take you over.

Heathers – Remember When Lyrics 14 years ago
This is great. I have never heard such a great harmony. Their voices just sync so perfectly.

I think this song is about two close friends or maybe lovers, who never known each other for a very long time and are very close but they are now having arguments and starting to drift apart.

I love this line "And still you laugh at me. Why?" I think it's indicating the betrayal she feels. She's come on hard times and her friend is laughing at her. So she is saying, "After all we've been through, how could you do that to me?"

"The path on which you walk will never fail to keep you safe,

But it will crumble underneath me, minus you."

I think this shows, the other person is being quite self centered. They are going down the path they want and not conisdering how it might affect their friend.

Marina and the Diamonds – I Am Not a Robot Lyrics 14 years ago
I just heard her on radio one live lounge. She said the song is about being awkward in social interactions. I can see that.

>You dont pick up the phone when it ring, ring, rings
Dont be so pathetic, just open up and sing<

Her and Fearne Cotton spoke about this "phonephobia" I actually expeirence this too, it's very strange.

>Im vulnerable, Im vulnerable
I am not a robot<

I thing if you are feeling shy and you aren't saying much, people sort of see you like a robot. They don't think you have any feelings, they think you are just being rude and haughty. When really you aren't shy because you are over confident, it's because you are very vunerable and scared of being hurt.

Marina and the Diamonds – Hollywood Lyrics 14 years ago
I believe the line is not "Golden line or light" it is LIE "Golden lie." I think the Golden lie is that Hollywood is like some amazing, wonderful place when really it is pretty fucked up.

Also she says "I FIGHT security making plays for me" That makes more sense too right?

Sinead O'Connor – Jackie Lyrics 14 years ago
The vocals on this song are great, she reminds me of Dolores o'Riordian from the cranberries although Sinead came first obviously. Is anyone else confused though at why a man would be called Jackie? I mean in the UK at least, Jackie is a woman's name.

Placebo – The Crawl Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this is about someones life being destroyed by drugs and also about someone who was in a relationship with him/her.

It takes the pain away
that could not make you stay
it's way to broke to fix
no glue, no bag of tricks

>The other person has left, because his person is too dependent on drugs.<

Don't go and lose your face
at some stranger's place
and don't forget to breathe
and pay before you leave

>This sounds like it could be a farewell from the girlfriend/boyfriend to the drug addict. Maybe The first two lines, they are pleading not to do it, but then in the next two lines, they accept they will go do it no mater what.<

Lay me down, the lie will unfurl
lay me down to crawl.

> I think this is about becoming dependent on drugs, the line unfurls and you become useless.

Amy Studt – Ladder In My Tights Lyrics 14 years ago
Some of the lyrics are painfully wrong.

>And lean over the edge< I mean over the edge.

>And who gives a fuck if once you ain't shiny and perfect< Should be what, not once.

>Mocking me out of town< Marking me out of ten

>Just one more slap< Spark not slap

I think this song is very similar to misfit, in that it's about someone who doesn't fit in but she ultimatley feels it's better to be this way and that she will fly higher. There seems to be hints of bullying and social exclusion, followed by fantasies of revenge.

I think it might be about abuse, specifically domestic violence towards a woman. I wish this song had more comments. The first time I listened I didn't really like it, but then I came across it again and I really like it. Also the end is when the song really climaxes.

Violent Delight – I Wish I Was A Girl Lyrics 14 years ago
Just some two cents from someone actually with gender identity disorder. I like this song, I suppose some people may find it offensive. It's very tongue and cheek but it sounds like the author has some understanding of what it's like "Being an girl is the only thing that's on my brain" yes that's very true, it's all you ever think, feel and dream about...

"Some people think I might be gay" yes people tend to assume you are gay rather than clock on to the fact that you are the wrong gender.

Lastly, the intense anger expressed in the last verse "Mother, why wasn't I a girl!" that's how you feel too. I don't feel angry at my mother though, I do feel anger at life. Anyway, since this song was released when I was a teenager, i'm pretty sure it was around before "scene kids" and this isn't actually emo/scene music it is punk rock, so whatever...

Garbage – Metal Heart Lyrics 14 years ago
I didn't use to know what this song meant, but i'm glad I do now since it makes it much more poignant. Especially this line-

I wish I wasn't flesh and blood
I would not be scared
Of bullets built with me in mind
then I could be saved

My sweet Lord, take care of me for I think I'm done
Kiss my mother on her cheek and lay my burden down

Shirley has said it is about a soilder who has been sent over to Iraq and has then found out he has been lied to and he finds this completely deverstating.

Garbage – So Like A Rose Lyrics 14 years ago
I like the part

Sleeping with ghosts
It's such a lonely experience
The stars are out tonight
Only they can hear you breathing

Sleeping with ghosts reminds me of the placebo album. Also sleeping with ghosts means sleeping with someone who isn't there, and with the stars can only hear you breathing bit, I think this song is definetly about intense feelings of lonliness driving someone to suicide. The last line is a nice touch though because someone is saying "I think you are beautiful, I wish you could stay here." Amazing.

Leona Lewis – Yesterday Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is more likley to be about the loss of a loved one rather than an "Ex." In the chorus she refers to a "they" which i assume is like god or the powers that be up above, in death they have taken him away very suddenly. They have taken their entire future but they can never erase their past and her memories of him.

>You always choose to stay, i should be thankful for everyday, heaven knows what the future
Holds, or least where the story goes, i never believed untill now, i know il see you again <

This line proves with a 100% certainty it's about losing a loved one. If he always chooses to stay why would he leave. Also saying "I know I will see you again" is generally what you say about someone who has passed on. I think if an EX up and left me I would be filled with despair but also anger and rage. There is none of this in this song, it's v peaceful and tranquil. A very emotional song, I wish she had released it as a single.

The Veronicas – Untouched Lyrics 15 years ago
Yea I just wanna add other lines which make it seem like this is not a normal level of attraction "I'll never ever let you leave me" "wanna wanna wanna

The Veronicas – Untouched Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is definetly about pure obession. Certain parts make me think this person is a stalker, for example "I want to be you." "Cause your the only one who's on my mind" and untouched may refer ot the fact that, she's obsessed with this guy but he doesn't know her and has never touched her. The theme of this song is very similar to Garbage's song "You look so fine" although they sound completly different. I think this is definetly their best song.

Amy Macdonald – Youth Of Today Lyrics 15 years ago
I sort of agree with you Duncan, but on the other hand, the song wouldn't sound as good if she sounded ambivalent or contradictory to herself. "OOooooh Old people drive me nuts. OOooooh but on the one hand, maybe we drive them nuts." I think it' just her thoughts on the whole concept of old people saying "well in my day." because I think usually young people do not get a chance to argue back to this because they do not actualy know whether the older generation were really any better in their day. But I think she is making the point that our generation definetly has more freedome and even though there will always be a few bad apples, it's better for the rest of us and we shouldn't have to suffer because of them.

Garbage – Betcha Lyrics 15 years ago
Garbage are absolute legends for recording this song. I can't stand the pussyslut girls, only one of them can sing. They set bad examples for young girls, that u have to be a slut to get anywhere. Then they released a song called "when I grow up" which was awful and it sounded like they wanted to be deep but of course couldn't pull it off, I mean who would take these skanks seriously? I guess releasing a song with the same name as a garbage hit tipped them over the edge so they released this answer to it. I hope the pussyslut dolls have heard this and that they cried themselves to sleep after realising the plague of bad music they have released on to the world.

Flyleaf – Sorrow Lyrics 15 years ago
I guess it could be about God or something but this is my interpretation of it. I first thought it might be about death but now I can really strongly see the rape theme.

>Sometimes it seems too quiet into paralyzing silence,
Like the moon is dark, meant to make me strong,
Familiar breath of my old lies
Change the colour in my eyes<

I think this about how the experience has changed her, it's opened her eyes and made her stronger, although she wishes it hadn't

>Left alone with only reflections of the memory
To face the ugly girl, that's smothering me
Sitting closer than my pain<

This seems to be about how she felt afterwards

>He knew each tear before it came<

About how he didn't care about her crying, begging to stop (sorry if i'm being abit graphic.)

>Soon he will perforate the fabric of the peaceful by and by<

Maybe his could be referring to b4 he attempts to rape her. Everything is peaceful and normal but soon he will "perforate" it.

>Sorrow lives through this night
I'll take this piece of you
And hope for all eternity
For just one second I felt whole
As you flew right through me<

I thought this chorus was about losing a loved one. But also it could be about after the rape, she feel nothing but sorrow and she realises this act will stay with her for eternity and she wishes it would go. The "just one second" line could refer to how she did feel happy but then it turned nasty and the last line could be referring to the rape.

>And we kiss each other one more time
And sing this lie thats half-way mine
The sword is slicing through the question so I won't be fooled
By his angel light<

Hmmm, well this verse could be about how he fooled her into forgiving him with his "angel light", but then she realises it is foolish to trust him, so she ends things "I won't be fooled."

Anyway, i'm sure there could be lots of interpretations but this rape one just seemed v obvious to me.

He was a complete idiot but he had our prime minister as a pet dog, and he dragged our soilders into a war. Also the song is clearly about GWB, it is sort of true that some Americans are unsure about what goes on outside their country but you are just exagerrating it.

Garbage – Bleed Like Me Lyrics 15 years ago
The point of this song is to sound simple. So what if the lyrics aren't an intricate web of metaphors, they are still very wel written and describe these problems in simple yet provocative terms.I definetly agree, this song is about everyone has different problems, but in the end we all feel pain in the same way. I think "You should see my scars" and "Try to comprehend that which you will never comprehend" would be to all the ppl who think these aren't real problem and that these ppl are weak. But if they were in these situations they most likley wouldn't last a minute.

The title of the song "Bleed like me" could mean many things. To me it means "Can you understand, can you stop this feeling of lonliness?"

Plumb – Boys Don't Cry Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about being ignored by your parents and not feeling wanted. But I think it also extends to the family not really co-operating or helping each other with problems like they should. "Boys don't cry" could I guess extend to boys and girls, your parents don't want you to cry and have to help you deal with your emotional pain.

You turn the TV on
And tune me out again

Is a really good line, saying how families tend to sit and watch TV instead of really communicating and enjoying their time together.

But you're okay with this
Damaging awkwardness
So I'll just play it safe
And keep it inside

Conveys the suffering of having to keep everything bottled up inside, unfortunetly I can relate to this very well.

I don't think this is about anyone in particular. But I think when she says "girl from that show" she's definetly talkin about ppl who get famous by being on a reality tv show. This song is about thinking of our culture in the past and seeing it was so much better to how it is today, with everyone tying to get their 15 minutes of fame. I think Amy feels there's much mroe to life than trying to be famous and those ppl who try so hard could be doing something much more productive, like enjoying their life.

Vanessa Carlton – Paradise Lyrics 15 years ago
Vannessa Carlton is possibly one of the best song writers I have come across. I listened to this when I was younger and to me it will always be very personal. It is about being in a situation which you know you can't escape from and you have to pretend like everything is normal when inside you feel like you are slowly dying.

"Well all she wants and all she needs are reasons to survive.
A day in which the sun will take her artificial light, Her light"
I love this line, I think the stealing her artifical life means a natural death, she feels like dying but knows that isn't an option.

"Once upon a year gone by she saw herself give in.
Every time she closed her eyes, she saw what could have been"
This is what I did, this line made me cry when I first heard it, at the end of the song, because that's when it stands out more. I think this means that this what she's going to have to do for the rest of her life.
