Counting Crows – Rain King Lyrics 14 years ago
i think everyones views on this song are a mix of how i feel about it. it means a lot of different things to me. and the versions where they slow it down like on Across a Wire and New Amsterdam are amazing. dont get me wrong, the original is great, but when its slowed down the way they do it, it seems so much more emotional and like it has a whole new meaning. if you havent heard them, you really should. i think its impossible for me to pick one CC song thats my favorite, and they dont have a song i dont like, but this would definitely be top 3.

O.A.R. – Shattered (Turn the Car Around) Lyrics 15 years ago
EverythingsEventual, have you ever heard O.A.R live? Becuase I have, quite a few times. And to say that they will incorporate their old sound into the concerts, or for that matter, a new live album is completely wrong. For example, Live at MSG. Great album, no doubt, but Love and Memories, Heard the World, and all the other songs from their new albums do not incorporate any old sound or original O.A.R. stuff. It still sounds like new stuff with Jerry no longer playing the sax in these new songs, and its not the same music. Yes, their live music is of course better, but by no means do they bring old sound to new music. And while I also agree that they couldn't have grown as popular without a new sound like this, I also feel that they turned their back on their old music, and for that matter, their old fans. The original fans, or at least the majority, don't want to see Jerry having a "bad ass guitar battle" against Rich, if thats what you wish to see it as on the DVD. They want to see Jerry ripping up the sax like he used to, giving those sweet solos to the great songs like Who's Chariot and So Moved On. So yes, they have grown exponentially due to their new sound, but that doesn't mean that growth doesn't come with selling out.

This song isn't that bad, but what happened to O.A.R.? This isn't anywhere close to the music that made me like them. They went from an original sound to mainstream bullshit. And to say that "What is Mine" and "This Town" are more like their original or traditional stuff is ridiculous. Have you ever heard their old stuff? And has Jerry forgotten how to play the sax? Why do you need three guitars, in one band? Marc on acoustic, Rich on electric, that's all the guitar they needed, but I guess maybe teenage girls don't want to hear a saxophone huh? It was one thing when "Stories of a Stranger" came out, but it wasn't nearly as bad as what I've heard from "All Sides". So "Here's to You" O.A.R., I guess losing a few good fans who are "So Moved On" isn't bad when you got a million new high school girls cheering you on. And maybe they should change the name of "The Fallout" to "The Sellout".

this song is actually about making the character in the song making a decision. the decision is between taking his life to bigger and better things and getting the money, but at the same time knowing that it might eventually corrupt and ruin him. the other decision is to just to live the way he's been living and enjoy his life the way it is, knowing that he will be happy with how his life as turned out. great song

yeah, it pretty much means "Tuesday is coming" in some form of Persian. Marc's wife is middle-eastern and thats why its in that language. and it says thats because they always leave to go on tour on Tuesdays, which started by coincidence and then later became sort of a tradition for they guys.

O.A.R. – About Mr. Brown Lyrics 17 years ago
The song is written about not political issues of any kind really, but like trippinbtm said, hypocracy. but its defintiley not written about their friend Michael. On Live at Madison Square Garden, Marc specifically says at the intro to this song that they've been playing music for 10 years now, starting out in a basement with just a few people watching. Michael was one of their friends who often watched them play their songs, and About Mr. Brown was his favorite song. so to all of you who are saying they wrote it for him, you're totally wrong. its just dedicated to Michael because it was his favorite song.

anyone else think this song is talking about psychoactive drugs (ie: shrooms, LSD: aka acid). i know OAR arent a band of drug overusers or anything like that. it may be hard to understand if you have never tried a psychoactive drug before, but if you think of the song being about that, and look at the lyrics with that in mind, it should make sense to you.
