Morrissey – The National Front Disco Lyrics

It seems to me he's singing about the fact that "David" is clinging to his own vision of what England used to be and should still be like, when really it was never that way. |

The Smiths – Meat Is Murder Lyrics

Honestly, I know far, far more meat-eaters who will take every opportunity they can to be like "HAHAHAHA I'M GOING TO GO AN EAT MCDONALDS NOW" to vegetarians, than I know extremist vegetarians who freak out over people eating meat. |

Razorlight – America Lyrics

Oh an razorlight lover - I'm leaning towards the idea that you're taking the piss. If so well done, that was ace. If not then thank you anyway, I got a good laugh either way |

Razorlight – America Lyrics

Lyrically, this song is unspeakable shit. If you just listen to it without paying any attention to the words it actually sounds somewhat decent, but this song is a great example of people deciding a song is meaningful and deep because the lyrics are vague and the music has a contemplative feel to it, when in reality it's likely that hardly any thought went into them.
Also, tcannabis, you're an idiot. |

Manic Street Preachers – Condemned To Rock N' Roll Lyrics

"the past is so beautiful the future like a corpse in snow I think it's all the fucking same" is about how people look back on the past as if it was wonderful and that now everything is awful and the future is
doomed when really not much is all that different |

behind roses in the hospital and from despair to where it's probably the best on gold against the soul (although I personally prefer a couple others). Killer riff and the melody fits well with the lyrics |

Manic Street Preachers – Faster Lyrics

I think it's important to remember Richey (and Nicky, actually) used to carry around notepads and scrawl down thoughts they had and would often use them as lyrics. A lot of this song could formed from putting together lines from notes that fitted together well, rather than it all being about 1984 or something. Personally I agree with MissD, I've always thought it was something like that, but I couldn't articulate it as well. |

Manic Street Preachers – Mausoleum Lyrics

Gotta love how he sings the whole "Regained your self-control... your meaning, your meaning" bit in only one breath. Adds a lot to the lyrics which are powerful on their own anyway. |

AWESOME AWESOME SONG. Meaning is obvious and has been mentioned. |

Manic Street Preachers – This Is Yesterday Lyrics

I always assumed Richey wrote it, and Nicky wrote ifwhiteamerica and P.C.P., because both of those songs rhyme and are political. This seems far more like one Richey would write. But I dunno, I'm only guessing. |

Manic Street Preachers – Motown Junk Lyrics

The "I laughed when Lennon got shot" bit sort of a way of demonstrating that you can get away with saying anything in a pop song because people don't care about the words, and only listen to the overall sound. According to Nicky Wire, anyway. |

I don't think it means anything, and I think it was written Squire on coke, but the guitar is out of this world |

The Smashing Pumpkins – Disarm Lyrics

Am I the only one who this reminds me of Columbine? I know it's not about it and was made before Columbine, but the lyrics would've still made sense if they where about it. |

Manic Street Preachers – Motorcycle Emptiness Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
Same as a lot of people have said, I just liked the song at first because of the cool guitar riff and overall sound, because the words are really hard to understand. But I like it a lot more now after seeing the words. Really powerful message but written in a poetic way. The first two lines are brilliant. |

The Stone Roses – What The World Is Waiting For Lyrics
| 16 years ago

Firstly this is a classic Stone Roses song. As for the meaning I think there's a lot of Biblical stuff in there like in other Stone Roses songs. The "He loves his brother he'd sell him for a fistful of gold" kinda reminds me of the story of Joseph and the Technicoloured Dreamcoat though though, haha. |

David Bowie – Starman Lyrics

The Starman waiting in the sky is Ziggy Stardust, I think. Would fit in well with the album anyway, seeing as though it's the 3rd (I think) song on it and is meant to be before Ziggy comes to Earth. |

Oasis – Roll With It Lyrics
|
In some bits the lyrics are upbeat "Fuck what anyone else thinks" kinda stuff, then it's got other lines saying exactly the opposite. I'm looking into it too much but I've always interpreted it as saying that it's impossible not to care what anyone else thinks of you no matter how much you try to convince yourself you don't.
I'm 90% sure that isn't what it's actually meant to mean, mind. It probably isn't meant to mean anything. |

Oasis – Some Might Say Lyrics

It isn't about anything. I tried to put meaning to it but you can't, it's just a collection a clever little rhymes with a good melody, there is no overall meaning (like D'you Know What I Mean, only less boring) |

Blur – Country House Lyrics

Ironic that this song, over 10 years later, could totally apply to Blur's bassist (forgot his name). He's a farmer now lol.
I prefer Oasis to Blur but this song is better than Roll With it and rightly beat it in my opinion. |

David Bowie – Sound and Vision Lyrics

"For me, it reminds me of the thought-process of something or coming up with an elaborate plan or idea."
I like that idea actually. Always struck me as him saying he wants to get away from everything and be a reclusive and just be able to think about everything, but that's far to obvious I guess. It's probably about drugs... |

Brilliant riff. Very under rated song actually, it's easily up there with Heroes and Space Oddity and in my opinion his best song. |

The Lennon/Lenin read a book on Marx bit is a pun, I think. You're supposed to wonder which one it is. Life On Mars by David Bowie has the same pun. |

The Stone Roses – Fools Gold Lyrics

I think it's probably just about disliking greed and not being obsessed by money.
But what I love about his song is how the vocals, bass, guitar and drums are all fucking amazing. One of the best tracks instrumentally of all time, coming very close to stuff like Won't Get Fooled Again. |
