Modest Mouse – Race Car Grin You Ain't No Landmark Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I'm almost positive that the line 'he's got a backwater nothing' is actually 'he's got a fat wad of nothing.' That would make more sense since the rest of the song seems to be about being down on your luck and losing money, and a fat wad of nothing means he doesn't have any money left. |
Modest Mouse – Lounge (Closing Time) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Love this song, I didn't even realize the heroin references till I looked at the comments on here. But I think it can also be interpreted in a metaphorical sense. The guy who's really a pornographer could mean that he acts all nice and flattering to women, but really just wants sex (like me and my friends.) And doing the grind, acting like we feel fine and getting high, all that are things that me and most of my highschool are a part of, and I think it's something that American society is centered around today, to an unhealthy degree. And I know I'm a hypocrite since I go out to those dances with my girlfriend and all the stuff that follows, but that just shows how accurate Brock's lyrics can be in describing our culture today. |
Radiohead – Fake Plastic Trees Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I've been listening to Radiohead for awhile, mostly OK Computer and a little bit of Pablo Honey. Then I decided to try The Bends, and I heard this song and... Holy fucking hell. I listened to it about twenty times in a row. Almost makes me cry every time. |
Wilco – On and On and On Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The first time I heard this song I just stopped moving, it sounded so perfect. Sky Blue Sky isn't Wilco's best album, but this song is just amazing. I think it's about a relationship lasting until both the people involved die. It especailly makes sense since it's written to Tweedy's father after his mother died. Hence the lines: i will live in you or you will live in me until we disappear together in a dream It seems to mean that if one of them dies, they will live on in the other one until they both disappear together. Incredible song! |
Pink Floyd – Wot's... Uh the Deal? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Amazing song, really carries some real emotion with it. The lyrics feel to me like they're about raising yourself up in the material, business world. The lines "Turn my lead into gold, Flash the readies," "Got to make it to the next meal," and "I'm the man on the outside looking in," all seem to point to a man trying to obtain money and wealth. Then at the end, when he's finally "I'm the man on the inside looking out," and he's inviting other people into his world, "Here me shout, come on in! What's the news, and where you've been?" He's finally attained his goal, but "There's no wind left in my soul and I've grown old." means he's lost his meaning and grown old in the process. Just my take on it. And I usually don't quote so many lines in my posts, but I couldn't help it with song, the lyrics are just so great! |
Modest Mouse – Birds vs. Worms Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about two groups of people with different opinions, but one group is WAY more powerful than the other, since the worms have no chance against birds and all. I think the birds could be corporate executives and business owners, who run everything and have a lot of money, and the worms are the majority of people who work for the companies and have to scrape by on what the business owners give them. Many times the workers resents the owners, as worms would likely resent birds, but they have to go on co-existing with each other. That's just my theory. I liked Madame theist's theory a lot too! |
