The Weeknd – Love Through Her Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The only arrogant and ignorant one is you. You've successfully shamed people as "whores" and insulted sex workers all in one comment while missing the sociocultural context of the Weeknd. Yes, Abel is an asshole, that is the character he has created for us, for his music. That's not a surprise, and if you don't like it, that's the point at which you stop listening, 'cause maybe gospel music or cutesy folk punk would be more your thing. The culture we live in creates the categories of "fuck" and "love" and there's not clear designation as to what goes where, or what each even means. This is what makes the two phrases so powerful, and so elusive when one tries to pin it down. It gets to the point when they bleed into each other and mean each other and mean nothing all at once, and the Weeknd embodies that with this song. Love is lust and lust is love and what does that even mean, and did it ever mean anything- |
The Game – Martians vs. Goblins Lyrics | 12 years ago |
i love this song. |
Gorillaz – Plastic Beach Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I thought I'd look it up, and I think it's important to read the second quote you provided in it's full context, specifically the next sentence: "It was a strange kind of optimism that I felt... but trying to get that into pop music is a challenge, anyway. But important." Feeling a "strange kind of optimism" would mean that he does live with a certain amount of despair by our way of life and it's destructiveness, so much that it deeply moves him to see at least _something_ good come out of it. I don't think it's as hands-off to ecological issues as you painted it - although certainly not as critical as I originally imagined. |
Gorillaz – Plastic Beach Lyrics | 14 years ago |
If this is true, then I guess I completely disagree with his assertions. It ridiculous to think that the hyperprocesses we put natural things through to create products is a natural process. One may philosophize it all they want, but it doesn't escape the very real effects our unnatural attacks on the earth are creating. People can debate the definition of "natural" until the world dies. And that's exactly what's going to happen. Bummer that these good musicians fall short in content. |
Gorillaz – Sweepstakes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this is a statement about how our society is designed and the myth about "anyone being able to do what they want, if only they make it so". Everything is organized in a pyramidal structure, hierarchical, classes, etc. We're told everyone can win the lottery (sweepstakes), but in reality, if you want to win, a lot more people have to lose. That's how it's set up. That's the organization of a "civilized" society, compared to a nature-based indigenous society which has been proved to work the best in the sense that it provides every member their birthright of basic needs - not a pyramid scheme! |
Gorillaz – Empire Ants Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think rowd149 has it dead on. |
Gorillaz – Superfast Jellyfish Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Considering the overall theme of this album, I think the lyrics are literally about unhealthy, earth-destroying diets (agricultural-based = destruction of topsoil and the conversion of the living planet into a desert), fast food, and unnatural processing. People don't care that the (terrible) food they are (quite literally) addicted to can only exist at a cost to the planet. Overfishing for cheap fish (destroys ocean), factory farmed meat (destroys animals right to natural and trauma-free life), GMO'd grains on monocultural plots (that destroy topsoil, and required the removal of the ecosystem that existed there prior). Our food industries are terribly, terribly destructive, and "fast food", especially, comes at a cost. |
Gorillaz – Rhinestone Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Nature's corrupted In factories far away" Nature to economists are only "resources" to be used anthropocentrically by ("civilized") humans. They are not forests, not rivers, not living beings, but rather lumber, hydroelectricity, trophy heads, etc. Our perception of nature is fucked as our globalized economy is _based_ upon the systematic hyperexploitation and extraction of resources (earth) and turning it into deadness, products to be bought, pollution, "corruption". |
Gorillaz – White Flag Lyrics | 14 years ago |
So excited for this album. I'm only going to explain what I see in this song, by itself, the first time I hear it, and not in the context of the whole album (someone else can connect it all) This song is about an escape, about creating a new place away from our pollution-heavy lifestyle "And I don't want to be left sleeping From all the diseases that I breathe in" This place is going to be away from the military-industrial complex, away from hierarchy (kings, rulers, presidents) and war. Living the way human animals are meant to, one could argue. Anyways, next song... |
Nana Grizol – Everything You Ever Hoped or Worked For Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's called "Everything We Ever Hoped and Worked For" Will We was the Demo title, also, this is a cover of Your Heart Breaks, but it's the same guy. Theo Hilton, or Theo Zumm. |
Heathers – Bloodpact Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love this song. "watching buildings burn and making memories rhyme." yess. |
Confide – If We Were A Sinking Ship Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I get the feeling this song has christian undertones. ugh. stinks, cause it sounds good. |
Set Your Goals – Gaia Bleeds (Make Way For Man) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is so amazing. I'd love to explain it point by point, but it's just too much. It's great. I love it. It's even much deeper than it seems on the surface. Finally a band with something to say. How refreshing.. |
The Format – On Your Porch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
can someone edit this so that it'll read better? it written out as one big paragraph is pretty annoying.. |
Destroyer – An Actor's Revenge Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i hear "dawn", not "down" |
Baby Bash – Suga Suga Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It is very obviously about cocaine, but written so that it first appears to be about a female person. Girl is a term that references coke. So is Suger. So is Blow. All words that he uses to describe "her". The whole song is about being high. He also references weed, as to say that they both go well together. That's why he says stuff like, "Treat you like my sticky ickey or my sweet oowy goowy" (sticky-icky being a term for marijuana) and "I got a fat sack and a superfly chick" (fat sack = weed / superfly chick = coke) I think it's pretty clear. |
Damien Rice – Coconut Skins Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I like 17146173 and wootfest's interpretations. Very different, but both very interesting and accurate sounding. |

M. Ward – A Voice At The End Of The Line Lyrics | 14 years ago |
all of these ideas sound good. I think part of it, though, with the "all I want is a voice at the end of the line" part, is that he was wanting a relationship (again?) with someone, but they don't want any part of it, and now he's desperate just to have enough of a friendship to talk to each other, even though he wants much more. |
M. Ward – Outta My Head Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is anything that starts off good, maybe in a deceitful way, but then "off with my head". For me, typically enough, this is my former relationship. |
Against Me! – Anna Is a Fucking Stool Pigeon Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Fucking snitches! |
Against Me! – Anna Is a Fucking Stool Pigeon Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Damn! |
The Unseen – Goodbye America Lyrics | 14 years ago |
There is not a single comment here that I'd agree with. But seriously, fuck this culture. And "sand niggers"? seriously? Sure, the lyrics are simple, but there's still many, many reasons why it rings true. |
Tilly and the Wall – Beat Control Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Glad people here like it. I've heard from a lot of folks that they hate it. So what if T&TW wanna write a dance song?? And it's good, so whatev. |
Rosa – Leah's Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Great song, but why did you censor "fuck"? The website asks specifically not to censor. |
RJD2 – Cut Out to FL Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The commentary makes the instrumental part mean so much more. You wonder, What did he do? Did he do it? Will he go on probation or be jailed? Will he leave? Will he get away with it? How long? Does she love him? Does he love her? Would she wait for him? What's gunna happen? Good song. |
Rites of Spring – For Want Of Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Great emotional hardcore band. This song gets me every time. |
The Riot Before – 5 to 9 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I hate the xenophobia I see everywhere, everywhere. This is a breath of fresh air. |
Panic! at the Disco – New Perspective Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I disliked the lyrics at first, because they seemed shallow, but it seems that the songs about fixing the shallow and replacing it with substance, so I think I like that. Although the focus on "can we fast-forward to go down on me" almost makes it still feel shallow. I think there should be a break in the music at "Stop there..." then start again with "... and let me correct it I wanna live a life from a new perspective" That would convey the messages better and sound more like Panic!'s style... To be clear, I like the lyrics!! The musical side of it is different, and of course they're going to develop differently, but this doesn't sound like the Panic! that I like and so I'll really just have to hear the rest of the upcoming album to find out how I feel. It kinda sounds like 90's alternative. I like 90's alt, especially with the 'whee-oooh, whee-oooh, whee-oooh' sounds you hear in the beginning. I prefer the choppier classical sound of Panic! in previous albums. |
Richard Hawley – Baby, You're My Light Lyrics | 14 years ago |
we have the same last name :) |
Scissors For Lefty – Lay Down Your Weapons Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Think the last time he was on a plane, they weren't as freaked out and cautious as they are now, and he basically does everything wrong without knowing it. And with a criminal background he's easily thrown back behind bars. It's a vicious circle, and says a lot about our culture, I think. |
Propagandhi – The Funeral Procession Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I hate when lyrics are typed in paragraph format :/ |
of Montreal – There Is Nothing Wrong with Hating Rock Critics Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think you get to a point where you stop trying to argue on their "eloquent" terms, and just let the words spit out, as naive as others may see it. It doesn't really matter when you get to that point. It's just like, "go away". Maybe that's not how Kevin meant it, but it's sure how I feel sometimes. |
O Pioneers!!! – Punknews Is Stoked Lyrics | 15 years ago |
hah, yess. |

Limbeck – '91 Honda Lyrics | 15 years ago |

All-Time Quarterback – Dinner At Eight In The Suburbs Lyrics | 15 years ago |

The Rapture – Whoo Alright Yeah Uh Huh Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Sorry ya'll, I hear 'diss', and despite the common "moan and piss" phrase, I think 'diss' fits the context better. And I was looking for piss, hoping i'd hear it, but alas, it's diss. |
Totally Michael – Casual Satisfaction Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's "you do to me" and not "you do do" But I'm listening to the full-length version. The prior version might be different. |

All-Time Quarterback – Dinner At Eight In The Suburbs Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think at the end he's talking about Seattle because he says "urban", and Seattle would be the much more urban city. I love the pacific Northwest :) |
I Hate Myself – This Isn't The Tenka-ichi-budokai Lyrics | 15 years ago |
If you think about the title of the song, it really ties together why he's talking about a break-up, but with the kamehameha reference. |
Beirut – Napoleon on the Bellerophon Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I See Stars – 3D Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Not every socially aware song by every band is a reference to Zeitgeist - I'm seeing these prophetic people all over the place claiming so. A lot of people talk about our culture and how fucked up it is, without having heard about it from that subpar documentary. There's a million different ways to come to that conclusion and that's just one. Who's to say they haven't just read Howard Zinn, Derrick Jensen, Emma Goldman, or writings by the Zapatistas or any anarchist literature? Maybe they've just listened to a lot of bands that talk about this stuff and it's rubbed off. There's so many possibilities and we've no clue. A lot of people can see how we're "enslaved" in this civilization, or this society, or capitalist system (depending on who you talk to), and the majority of them didn't get it from that doc. Now it's my turn to push something - If you want you're world turned upside down even more so, and by a more credible source, read Derrick Jensen's "Endgame". :) |
Blackbird Raum – Cities Lyrics | 15 years ago |
need more! |
Attica! Attica! – The Kids War Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Awesome! The last verse should be "chanting" though, not dancing. This is the first solo I heard. Love it. |
