The Gaslight Anthem – Wooderson Lyrics

The first "tonight tonight, it's alright, alright..." is astonishing. how can you fill such everyday words with that sort of emotion? I don't know. Brian is wonderful. |

anyone know what hes saying in the outro? i originally thought it was just woahs... but it sounds more and more like words to me now. incredible song, best on the album |

The Gaslight Anthem – Meet Me by the River's Edge Lyrics
| 15 years ago

incredible. i thgouth it was just a catchy throwaway on the album at first, kinda thought this and even cowgirls get the blues were the 2 weakest on the album. now this is possibly my favourite!
and its:
and they waltz the ballet up the boulevard to a pace we've never kept |

The Gaslight Anthem – The Patient Ferris Wheel Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
some corrections:
right on, ride on (instead of ride on, ride on)
thinking about what Wiggs and Matty said (insteady of Jemany)
boardwalk talk (instead of boy won't talk)
thats what it says in the album booklet anyway |

i love the reference in don't let me explode - he asked what happened to charlemagne, she just smiled polite-like and said something vague. craig is just incredible |

The Hold Steady – One for the Cutters Lyrics

cutter pride? no clue what that is. what does townie mean in america? its what chavs used to be called down here in the west country of england, we called them townies or janners, but im guessing its something different in the US? any help would be nice! |

Flogging Molly – Drunken Lullabies Lyrics

i don't think this song is pro IRA at all. Seeing them at Reading he said it was great that after 500 years of bombing and killing each other, it was great that there was finally some peace between the Irish and the British, i think its more a plea for peace than anything else |

Biffy Clyro – Mountains Lyrics
|
typical biffy, odd lyrics but sung with so much emotion that they mean everything. i think he wants to be with this girl forever, but she doesnt want to (the jungle writing back to say he wasnt king, that its an "end to his horizon" ie the end of the line). maybe the references to the mountain and the sea are to strength, that she wont take it from him maybe? |

i agree, lyrically the chorus isnt too great, but the verses make up for it. love this band, roll on reading 08 |

Scouting for Girls – Elvis Ain't Dead Lyrics

i agree with everyone, and the end, where it says elvis has left the building, is the guy realising that she isnt coming back to him methinks. cool tune, far less annoying than the last single |

In a word, explosive. My fave on the album, especially when you listen to the intro before and it just destroys your speakers. |

Athlete – Hurricane Lyrics
|
about global warming maybe? "we're not giving up the coastline so easily" - a reference to rising sea levels, and the fact that people have finally woken up and started trying to do something about it. also "what you see today could be gone within the hour" - pretty self explanatory. i dont like athlete, but this is a really cool tune, i cant stop humming it |

The Hold Steady – Party Pit Lyrics
|
to me its about how one incident can shape people's lives differently. this girl at the party pit's life went downhill, she got "pinned down" to the town and the drugs ("those kids she's with were selling it"), whereas another guy went off to college or whatever, they literally "sailed off on some separate trips". im probably stating the obvious, but oh well. the hold steady rule, they were awesome at reading |

great song, but the opening chords sound a bit too much like killswitch engage's "my last serenade". ah well, if youre gonna copy someone, might as well be the best |

it works on so many different levels too. i thought it was all about war, but i see the relatonship side of it too. if im honest ive got no clue what its about, but i dont actually care all that much, its just one of the best songs ever |

god, dulce et decorum est and all quiet on the western front being mentioned in song discussions... takes me back to my A level english lit lessons. great tune, easily (really sorry) my favourite RHCP tune, frusciante's playing is incredible, and the anti-war message is clear. fucking awesome |

Say Anything – An Orgy of Critics Lyrics
|
he's having a dig at bands who change their sound to 'make it' - "your so perfect to please us, you make all the right noise" - and warning people of the fakers - "i dont know who sold you that baby but it's a fake". i dont know, its one way of looking at it.
i can also see that he's singing from the point of view of a critic maybe? the verses in the song are incredibly negative, raging at the state of the industry, yet the chorus is uplifting, maybe the "your art it brought me to my knees" is a reference to genuine music, like his own. again, just an opinion |

Asian Dub Foundation – Real Great Britain Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
i love the "blairful of thatcher..." verse, brilliant lyrics. ADF rule, theyre obviously pissed off with tony blair and the way he ran the country during his time in office, but it also seems to suggest that britain's stuck in the past, unsure of itself and what it really is, hence the "shoe gazer nation forever looking backward". great song, great band |

Jurassic 5 – High Fidelity Lyrics

Ace tune, basically bragging about how well they work together - "and together we will forever be high fidelity" (a reference to the film/book im guessing) - all in all, just a bit good |
