The Gaslight Anthem – Miles Davis and the Cool Lyrics 14 years ago
The diamond soled shoes line is another reference, this time to Paul Simon's "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes", continuing the habit Brian has of referencing his favourite artists

submissions
Frightened Rabbit – Good Arms vs. Bad Arms Lyrics 15 years ago
I heard this band for the first time earlier this week - they are now one of my favourite bands period. The Midnight Organ Fight is possibly my favourite album, amazing.

Enter Shikari – Fanfare For The Conscious Man Lyrics 15 years ago
This is going to be monumental live. I can't wait for Reading to hear some of the new stuff

submissions
The Gaslight Anthem – Wooderson Lyrics 15 years ago
The first "tonight tonight, it's alright, alright..." is astonishing. how can you fill such everyday words with that sort of emotion? I don't know. Brian is wonderful.

submissions
Lykke Li – Little Bit Lyrics 15 years ago
I wish she'd written this about me. I would love her at the drop of a hat

submissions
Enter Shikari – Juggernauts Lyrics 15 years ago

submissions
The Hold Steady – Curves & Nerves Lyrics 15 years ago
where can i find this song? its amazing, one of their best. is there a recorded version of it anywhere?

submissions
British Sea Power – Lights Out for Darker Skies Lyrics 15 years ago
whatever it means, and it seems to be to be deliberately cryptic (i quite liked the military idea but the mention of 2007 suggests its an environmental song), its a bitching choon

submissions
The Gaslight Anthem – Once Upon a Time (Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise cover) Lyrics 15 years ago
can someone tell me who sang this originally?

submissions
The Gaslight Anthem – We're Getting a Divorce, You Keep the Diner Lyrics 15 years ago
"it's alright man, i'm only bleeding man..."

amazing

submissions
The Wombats – My Circuitboard City Lyrics 15 years ago

Marmaduke Duke – Kid Gloves Lyrics 15 years ago
awesome awesome tune, so much so that i dont really care what its about.

submissions
The Gaslight Anthem – The Backseat Lyrics 15 years ago
anyone know what hes saying in the outro? i originally thought it was just woahs... but it sounds more and more like words to me now. incredible song, best on the album

submissions
The Gaslight Anthem – Meet Me by the River's Edge Lyrics 15 years ago
incredible. i thgouth it was just a catchy throwaway on the album at first, kinda thought this and even cowgirls get the blues were the 2 weakest on the album. now this is possibly my favourite!

and its:

and they waltz the ballet up the boulevard to a pace we've never kept

submissions
The Gaslight Anthem – The Patient Ferris Wheel Lyrics 15 years ago
some corrections:

right on, ride on (instead of ride on, ride on)
thinking about what Wiggs and Matty said (insteady of Jemany)
boardwalk talk (instead of boy won't talk)

thats what it says in the album booklet anyway

The Gaslight Anthem – The '59 Sound Lyrics 15 years ago
the meaning is fairly self explanatory, great song.

young boys, young girls, aint supposed to die on a saturday night

posibly the most heart-wrenching lyric ever written

submissions
The Hold Steady – Killer Parties Lyrics 15 years ago
i love the reference in don't let me explode - he asked what happened to charlemagne, she just smiled polite-like and said something vague. craig is just incredible

submissions
The Hold Steady – One for the Cutters Lyrics 15 years ago
cutter pride? no clue what that is. what does townie mean in america? its what chavs used to be called down here in the west country of england, we called them townies or janners, but im guessing its something different in the US? any help would be nice!

submissions
The Gaslight Anthem – Old White Lincoln Lyrics 15 years ago
i cant get sick of this song, i think its my fave on the '59 sound. anyone know of where i can get a tab for it?

submissions
Flogging Molly – Drunken Lullabies Lyrics 15 years ago
and a cleberation of said peace, so lets all have a few pints of the black stuff and dance like eejits

submissions
Flogging Molly – Drunken Lullabies Lyrics 15 years ago
i don't think this song is pro IRA at all. Seeing them at Reading he said it was great that after 500 years of bombing and killing each other, it was great that there was finally some peace between the Irish and the British, i think its more a plea for peace than anything else

submissions
The Gaslight Anthem – Old White Lincoln Lyrics 15 years ago
i agree about it not being glittering or glimmering, not sure what it is, different sounds the closest but its hard to make out

submissions
Biffy Clyro – Mountains Lyrics 16 years ago
typical biffy, odd lyrics but sung with so much emotion that they mean everything. i think he wants to be with this girl forever, but she doesnt want to (the jungle writing back to say he wasnt king, that its an "end to his horizon" ie the end of the line). maybe the references to the mountain and the sea are to strength, that she wont take it from him maybe?

submissions
Alkaline Trio – Help Me Lyrics 16 years ago
i agree, lyrically the chorus isnt too great, but the verses make up for it. love this band, roll on reading 08

submissions
The Chemical Brothers – Close Your Eyes Lyrics 16 years ago
i love the idea of this being the two sides of a relationship. so beautiful

submissions
Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip – The Beat That My Heart Skipped Lyrics 16 years ago
anyone got the lyrics to the intro on the album version?

submissions
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly – Find The Time Lyrics 16 years ago
i think its form bands, not form bounds. anyway, great song, talking about the plans people make but never get round to doing

submissions
Royworld – Man In The Machine Lyrics 16 years ago
these guys will be huge. awesome stuff

submissions
Mike Park – Supposed to be there too Lyrics 16 years ago
wait, i meant that the other way round! its about the racism and discrimination within scenes and how pointless it is

submissions
Mike Park – Supposed to be there too Lyrics 16 years ago
no comments? a crime! this song is wonderful, i think its all about integration, no one discriminating against anyone for what they think or do

submissions
Scouting for Girls – Elvis Ain't Dead Lyrics 16 years ago
i agree with everyone, and the end, where it says elvis has left the building, is the guy realising that she isnt coming back to him methinks. cool tune, far less annoying than the last single

submissions
Enter Shikari – Enter Shikari Lyrics 16 years ago
In a word, explosive. My fave on the album, especially when you listen to the intro before and it just destroys your speakers.

submissions
Athlete – Hurricane Lyrics 16 years ago
about global warming maybe? "we're not giving up the coastline so easily" - a reference to rising sea levels, and the fact that people have finally woken up and started trying to do something about it. also "what you see today could be gone within the hour" - pretty self explanatory. i dont like athlete, but this is a really cool tune, i cant stop humming it

submissions
Enter Shikari – Jonny Sniper (Album version) Lyrics 16 years ago
the ladies and gentlemen bit is an interlude on the album, rather than part of the song. this song ruled at reading, especially with chris and rob raving afterwards

submissions
The Hold Steady – Party Pit Lyrics 16 years ago
to me its about how one incident can shape people's lives differently. this girl at the party pit's life went downhill, she got "pinned down" to the town and the drugs ("those kids she's with were selling it"), whereas another guy went off to college or whatever, they literally "sailed off on some separate trips". im probably stating the obvious, but oh well. the hold steady rule, they were awesome at reading

submissions
Enter Shikari – Acid Nation Lyrics 16 years ago
great song, but the opening chords sound a bit too much like killswitch engage's "my last serenade". ah well, if youre gonna copy someone, might as well be the best

submissions
The Goo Goo Dolls – Ain't That Unusual Lyrics 16 years ago
cant believe there arent more comments on this, its the best song theyve written.

see i'd love to be you, at least then i'd see you.
sorry i put them words in your mouth but you wouldnt talk to me.

possibly the finest lyrics ever written

submissions
Jurassic 5 – The Influence Lyrics 16 years ago
DrLove, i agree. this song is mindblowing live, lyrically one of the best songs ever, its saying basically how theyre real, and others arent. love it.

submissions
Fink – This Is The Thing Lyrics 16 years ago
i think the (...) goes

"like the leaves on the trees or my clothes all over the floor"

gorgeous tune

submissions
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Easily Lyrics 17 years ago
it works on so many different levels too. i thought it was all about war, but i see the relatonship side of it too. if im honest ive got no clue what its about, but i dont actually care all that much, its just one of the best songs ever

submissions
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Easily Lyrics 17 years ago
god, dulce et decorum est and all quiet on the western front being mentioned in song discussions... takes me back to my A level english lit lessons. great tune, easily (really sorry) my favourite RHCP tune, frusciante's playing is incredible, and the anti-war message is clear. fucking awesome

submissions
Say Anything – An Orgy of Critics Lyrics 17 years ago
he's having a dig at bands who change their sound to 'make it' - "your so perfect to please us, you make all the right noise" - and warning people of the fakers - "i dont know who sold you that baby but it's a fake". i dont know, its one way of looking at it.

i can also see that he's singing from the point of view of a critic maybe? the verses in the song are incredibly negative, raging at the state of the industry, yet the chorus is uplifting, maybe the "your art it brought me to my knees" is a reference to genuine music, like his own. again, just an opinion

submissions
Asian Dub Foundation – Real Great Britain Lyrics 17 years ago
i love the "blairful of thatcher..." verse, brilliant lyrics. ADF rule, theyre obviously pissed off with tony blair and the way he ran the country during his time in office, but it also seems to suggest that britain's stuck in the past, unsure of itself and what it really is, hence the "shoe gazer nation forever looking backward". great song, great band

submissions
Jurassic 5 – High Fidelity Lyrics 17 years ago
Ace tune, basically bragging about how well they work together - "and together we will forever be high fidelity" (a reference to the film/book im guessing) - all in all, just a bit good

submissions
The Dykeenies – Clean Up Your Eyes Lyrics 17 years ago
its gorgeous. what does it mean though?
