-The person in this song doesn't feel "secure" within the relationship anymore, they feel the need to rely on superstitions (put on your oil, back in the day people used "snake oil" for protection from everything like baldness to death(btw there is no snake oil)) -Because of this, they're cutting their losses for what they think is a doomed relationship because they don't think they're worth the trouble they're causing. -They go on to tell their partner, "Don't be sad or angry with me for ending us... you're going to find someone new and be happy one day. I, on the other hand, will never find happiness and will die alone." Pretty tragic way to go through life. Anyhoo, just my two cents. |

| I don't think this is about one "thing", one DUI, one murder, one drug addict. I think it's broader, to everyone who's ever hit rock bottom, but then found the light. They say "I have been saved by this or that and now I am a good person because I will follow the straight path like a good person." and while that's all neat and good for them... they left disaster behind them. Broken relationships, broken trusts, broken families, broken hearts. So I think it's saying, "Yes, good thing you saved yourself, now what about the mess you left? What will you do about that?" | |

I feel like this is about not being able to get what you need in a relationship to grow as a person. The girl in the song seems like they really need validation from the other person and feels like they're not worth the other person's time. "He won't make love to me now Not now, I've set the fee He said it's too much in pounds I guess I'm stuck with me" --He doesn't think she's worth the effort of having a relationship with her, even if she's willing to have a sexual relationship. "He told me I was so small I told him "Water me I promise I can grow tall When making love is free" --He told her she wasn't important to him (when something is small to you, it's insignificant to you) so she says "give me what I need from this relationship, and I promise I can turn into the person you want me to be." The guy wants an easy relationship, one that doesn't require much from him, one that is easily gratifying for him, and he's not willing to put in the effort for the girl. She seems like she doesn't have that self validation of being good enough, so she seeks it from him, and he only makes her feel even less important than she already does. |

I agree with most of the posts that this song is about a love lost to death, "Found your rosary broken into pieces". Just as Nienna pointed out, it would make sense that after she died he would turn his back on religion and break the beads. This song is so gorgeous, I have it on repeat haha :P |

First of all this song in teh Goooorgeousness! :D I think she is remember a past love. Little memories. I think the line "And history books forgot about us and the bible didnt mention us The bible didnt mention us, not even once" means nobody noticed. He might have meant the world to hear and when they ended nobody noticed, and went on living as if nothing happened. |

| I think the song is talking about life experience. "He's a wounded animal-he's a dying breed" tells about his time being over. He lived his days through. The girl "And she never truly hated anyone or anything" speaks of how she is so inexperienced she stil doesn't know what she truly likes or doesn't like. "i've got to get me out of here this place is ful of dirty old men" she's afraid of the world and it's reality when she goes 'outside'. That's just what I think though =P | |
