PJ Harvey – White Chalk Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it's about tradition. it's about where you're from. 'sticking to my shoes' - always with you. and the reference to 'rot my bones' - she'll be burried there. Unborn child - tradition will carry on. I don't think it's a depressing song at all, I think it's very uplifting! I'm not sure about the last lines.. i mean I'm guessing she's scratched her palms against the hills... I mean wasnt PJ born in Dorset?? Hmm, |
Ryan Adams – Come Pick Me Up Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Does anyone else think that the verses are actually from the point of view of the other person, talking to Ryan? |
David Bowie – Life on Mars? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Mickey Mouse is a Cash Cow. |
Placebo – Where Is My Mind? (Pixies cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Good version. |
Goldfrapp – A&E Lyrics | 16 years ago |
its about taking drugs. 'why don't you wreck' - the person she is singing to doesn't do them. The way she talks about her Hospital clothes is a sad illusion of the dress she was wearing last night. 'Do you really wanna know why I was dancing on the floor?' - the disapproval of this person. I think she says 'I was trying to phone you when I'm crawling up that door' but I'm not sure. I think this song is wonderful, kinda different direction for Goldfrapp... can't wait for the album! |
The Menzingers – A Lesson in the Abuse of Information Technology Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Queens of the Stone Age – Leg Of Lamb Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm doing exams atm and thought the lines "Education is so lame (so lame) When you bitch and you moan" were so fitting I had to laugh out loud. This song reminds me of that Roald Dahl story Lamb To The Slaughter... connections?? |
Fiona Apple – Never Is a Promise Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is so strong. I feel very attatched to it, it has a very personal meaning to me. I feel it might be directed to someone who was a guardian to her, it makes sense in a musical and creative sense with all the references to emotion and creation... something nobody else can truly understand. Sometimes I really do feel exactly like this song. |
Jeff Buckley – Mojo Pin Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Placebo – Pierrot The Clown Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Pierrot The Clown was always being made fun of and trusted people to easily. He was always being let down. A Naive character who gives too many second chances. |
Cary Brothers – Ride Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Starting again. Accepting flaws. Becoming vunerable. Letting go of the past. Holding on to someone you love. |

John Mayer – No Such Thing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Like nearly everyone commenting on this song, I'm sure... I can relate to this song. I ran through the halls of my high school declaring that there is NO SUCH THING as the real world... and it was bloody amazing! |
John Mayer – New Deep Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's sarcastic. Jeez, don't think John was being serious, do you? His reference to a book of rhymes is so personal! I love that. A songwriter should always be in tune with his thoughts and never be "Numb" and John knows it. Guess it gets emotionally exhausting though, combing your life, trying to find a meaning. But you still do it, 'cause the rewards are worth it. |

John Mayer – Home Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
also... would make a lot more sense to be "sleight" like the "sleight of God's hand"... you know. "Sleight of hand" is a very widely used term and I think it makes a lot more sense, tbh. I really like this song though, I think it's very honest and important to John as a person rather than a performer. Did he promise some girl a "homelife"? Who knows... |
John Mayer – Wheel Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's a song that means a lot me personally. If you love something then you're suppose to let it go, right? If it returns, only then is it truly yours. I believe this song could be related to any kind of relationship. Obviously, two lovers but I think John wanted it to be considered in a wider context... maybe a parent letting go of their child, realising they are growing up. Perhaps, that we all need space to grow and find our own paths in life. I like the positive attitude the song keeps up although you can tell that there has been a lot of emotion beforehand, if that makes sense to anybody else. It's hope for love and a bright future ahead, and not to be sad about what's over because it never really is over, is it? The last verse is so inspiring, and very clever as the last song on the album. |
Regina Spektor – Rejazz Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I sing this song when I'm trying to warm my voice up. I think the melody is very clever and good for that. Love the Jazz feel to it. The idea of "Rejazz" may signify a change from the original... perhaps something happend that made her change the lyrics? I really like the line "Peoples children die and they don't even cry forever" - It's so bleak |
The Cure – Push Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The instrumental intro is fantastic in this song. It's very much a song that is presented through music like actions, rather than words, although the words that Robert does sing are just perfect. I agree with Nailerk, it's a very sexual song. I feel it's about a lovers affair. It is a persons imagination running away with them. The torment of thinking that something might have happened in the same bed that they share. The reference to "the secret you" does present the idea that he does think that his lover is leading a separate life without him, however it is the same girl- "always you". Her smile brings him comfort, however this seems a little sarcastic. The reference to smearing a man across these walls and "strawberries and cream" is definately a sexual metaphore. Passionate in reality, but exaggerated and violently described by Robert. The comment of blood and cum, I agree with. The imagery of perhaps the other lover being like a monster (Robert is notorious for using this - Lullaby). He might prefer that his lover didn't actually want this other man, an would rather imagine that he forced himself upon her. "It's the only way to be"- this is the only explanation in his irrational mind. The last verse brings Robert back into reality, talking about the room; evidence cleared away. The idea of him staying away too long may relate to him being distant from his partner in their relationship, or even just not being quick enough to catch them in the "clean bed".The last line may show his own insecurities in their relationship and being physically pushed out of the bed which he used to share quite contently with his lover. Anyway, it's brilliant. |
Jeff Buckley – Lover, You Should've Come Over Lyrics | 17 years ago |
God I love this song. The reference to age and death makes me think that maybe he was having trouble committing to this girl (which probably was Rebecca). But it seems like he wanted to. When it's so intense and so overpowering... this is love at it's most frightening. The funeral is a perfect setting, it paints such a sad picture. Love Slipping Away Due To Circumstances. Even though that person is gone, it doesn't mean that the love you had for them will ever stop. He calls her "child". There is life yet. BUT there is hope... this is the hope in love. "It's not too late". |
Jeff Buckley – Moodswing Whiskey Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Seedy. I totally agree with stendec. First of all I wasn't too keen on this song but now it's not just one of my favourite Jeff tunes but songs of all time. It's the words of an alcoholic, an abusive husband. You're to be scared of this guy. I like the reference to God, as Alcoholism can be like a religion in a negative way. "Punishing God... Prodical son has returned" might be his return to a drunken state after trying to fight his dependancy and the dominance of drink. The acrobats, now this is interesting. "All in the name of Gravity" - unavoidable for everyone, acrobats fighting something that is near impossible and they do it for money, a dig at human society? BEAUTIFUL LOSER - this is a reference to the book by Leonard Cohen, one of Jeff's greatest influences. I actually own this book but have never read it so no clues for this part... The last line is from a total cynical outlook. Very clever. That perhaps, drink may clear a mind and detaches a man from society so he may critise it? |
Mystery Jets – Little Bag Of Hair Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is one of those songs which makes your heart sink. It's beautiful, but you can feel the pain he must have gone through as a child. It's so blunt and truthful, nothing is hidden. I met the band after their gig in Glasgow a year ago and they are all really great guys with a lot of talent. |
Muse – Hysteria Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It might mean wanting someone that you might have had before but been left wanting more. As in "give me your heart and your soul" - maybe love, however it has become a complete obsession. It shouts out frustration in not being able to hold something that you want so badly. Its aggressive but romantic at the same time. And very sexy... |
