It's not often I comment on this site, but I'm sure my opinion will be appreciated by some. I think this song is clearly about the singer having to go away, reluctantly as he's leaving his love, but he WILL be back. He has other engagements that he needs to forfill "I'll be chasing a stralight till the end of my life, I don't know if its worth it anymore". He's telling her how he wants to forget the world and just "hold her in his arms" and could not care less what anyone else thinks because he's "far away from the memories of the people who care if he lives or dies", but then again, he wants the world to feel the euphoric feelings he is "lets conspire to ignite all the souls that would die just to feel alive". He knows he'll be back, and they both expect to be together soon because of the pure monumance of their love for each other. "Our hopes and expectations, black holes and revelations". |

| Yea I mean... ductape summed everything about this song up for me. With the amount of drugs Chris did I'm so glad he didn't end up dying or anything. I'm only 15, from Britain so none of my friends like Soundgarden. I find their music so nostalgic, from the 90's when my oldest brother used to like them when we first heard them on Road Rash for the PC. Chris Cornell has an amazing skill in writing lyrics. He understands that what's important is not the words themselves... cause tbh don't you get sick of "yea, yea don't you know, come on baby, let's bone" and stuff like that. He knows the imagrey, the ideas it puts in your head are most important. This song makes me think of a dark lifeless earth, where everything bad that could possibly happening is happening, and perhaps the song is also saying this is what it's like on drugs. The first verse or two make me think of hell, or the global warming ending all life. Perhaps the extreme heat forging weapons or something. Or as ductape said, the different feelings and visions you get on drugs like hot breath and raindrops feeling like sparks. I'm not sure it has a meaning so much as it was just written with a fast, travelling pace, the way the song is so fast, the drumming is mad, and he's saying "million, million miiiiiiiiles" etc etc, just trying to portray something going fast.
