Metric – Gimme Sympathy Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[angelofthesilence:15902] "Who would you rather be The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?" my first reaction to this line was that she is asking "would you rather burn out or fade away?" ---- Your reaction to this line is way out of left field. Emily Haines met Lou Reed of the Velvet Underground, and they would later become friends. He once asked her "Would you rather be The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?" and she shot back "Velvet Underground" You can read the article about their relationship here: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/metrics-emily-haines-pays-tribute-to-lou-reeds-integrity-and-humor-20131028 Those lines in this song are just a tribute to one of her closest friends, and one of her favorite musicians, not some kind of tongue in cheek comment about the has beens of yesteryear. |

Why does this song make me so sad? Is it because I imagine I'm the singer looking for my rock to take on my burdens when I don't have a rock? Or is it because I'm the one being sung to, and I can't be that rock for someone else? |

At one level, the song seems to be FWB playing chicken to become a committed couple. At another level, the song is about virtually every interpersonal relationship being nothing but impersonal business transaction. |

I don't know if the song is particularly about a break-up. I think it's more about loneliness and the overwhelming desire to find someone to love and who will love him. |

Doesn't fit into his logic? When was the last time you met yourself? |
Archive – Bullets Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I don't think it's necessarily a glorification of murder, but talking about someone who is doing his best to keep the animal from taking over (see the first two lines of the song). The reason the animal is underneath his skin is because of hatred ('black holes in the side of your face' is analogous to people who completely lose their shit and go temporarily blind). Finally, the hatred keeps pushing him to let the animal out (see the lines starting with "come and make me a martyr"). This battle between being the ordinary man and being violence incarnate is reflected in the chorus "personal responsibility" and 'personal response insanity". |

Hey dumbass, go look up the subjunctive mood and you'll understand why every verb in this song 'seems' to be in the past tense, when it, in reality, is in the present. Idiot. By the way it is grammatically I wish I -were-, not was. But hey, o well, when SoaD was all "The most loneliest day" I kinda died inside. |
