Gillian Welch – Revelator Lyrics | 5 years ago |
It's about an unfaithful lover who questions their own commitment. Time is revelator, it reveals the true intentions driven by doubts in a relationship that is driven by the trials and tribulations of daily life. It's so obvious there is pain of regret and pain caused by unfaithfulness to partner. Move fader is moving away from guilt. |
King Crimson – Starless Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Yearns - yearns to be "a grey hope that oh yearns to be" |
King Crimson – Starless Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Gordian, you've got 'amends' right, but it's To a grey hope, That amends to be, 'hole' doesn't make sense, 'hope' does, and that's the lyric. It's about futility. Maybe Palmer-James met the Borg early. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Snow (Hey Oh) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Addiction to heroin, and breaking the habit. 'When it's killing me', 'where all my tracks will Be concealed and there's nowhere to go' .. dead [pardon the pun] giveaways. Snow is another name for heroin. The other hint is a way the song is performed. It's very 'light' in the signing - it's not guttural, it's almost delicate, like a plea. The "When will I know that I really can’t go To the well once more time to decide on When it’s killing me When will I really see All that I need to look inside" is the struggle to break away from the addiction |
Gillian Welch – Time (The Revelator) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it's about a woman and a man, and the relationship between them, about being a traitor to her partner, over time as the relationship breaks down under pressures of modernity and incompatibility. "time's the revelator" Part of the song is placed in Kansas [Corning] and The Cady is the Katy - the railroad as Paega mentions above. Leaving the mule to ride implies she feels she is being left behind, a representation of the old morality and sensibilities of a woman caught between two worlds, one very staid and conservative, and one very modern and free. It's a juxtaposition of the old [the spindles whine, hitching a ride on a freight train] and the new .. the 'fortune lady' is a shrink or a spiritual guide, who is trying help her understand her own inner feelings. But every day seems to date her: this person does not understand the yearnings within the woman's inner desires. She's made up her mind, as she deals with the day to day drudgery of her life .. "Up in the morning, up and on the line Drive into Corning, and all the spindles whine And every day it's getting straighter," 'Going back to Cali' and 'move the faders' is the escape from an old fashioned husband or boyfriend by a woman who is torn between traditional values and being free to do what she wants - forced to 'keep the fucking out of sight'. At the end, there's the bittersweet realization she is indeed a traitor. "Queen of fakes and imitators Time’s the revelator." |

Beck – Loser Lyrics | 17 years ago |
written in 1992, it sure sounds like Beck is pokign fun at GHWB {41st President of the US} - "I'm a driver, I'm the winner; things are gonna change I can feel it" .. if that isn't Bush saying it, it's a good facsimile. Beck must have had a DeLorean, because Bush 43 might as well use this song as his anthem "Soy un perdedor" |
