i love this song! its such a great party song! anyway, i reckon its about a girl who is sick and tired of all the old-fashioned "stay at home wife" views afound her, and she's trying to live a modern carefree life. at te beginning she "comes home in the morning light" after an all-night party and hetr mother thinks thats just NOT the done thing. "we're not the fortunate ones" could refer to them not being able to choose everything about their lives, like in the old days. they have to take into account the fact that girls DO wanna have fun, not just be housewifes. in the next verse when the phone rings in the middle of the night and her dad gets mad and she says "daddy dear your still number one" she probably means "you're still the main man in my life" (in a nice way) because he was always thyere for her, but he has to accept that girls just wanna have fun and party and live there own lives. the "some bys take a beautiful girl" verse is my favourite part of the song. she wants to be the one to kick start the modern idea of living your own life and just having fun! rathr than sticking to the old-fashioned way of being a good little housewife all the time. |

i think this song is okay, the verses canm really annoy me some days, but the chorus is good. one problem it that the chorus is so quiet. its good enough, but i can barely hear it! its like the verses biuld up to something that just doesn't reach the essential "chorus peak" i think deans a pretty good singer, he isn't all just pure good looks (but those matter too =) otherwise he wouldn't have got so far in Aussie Idol. maybe i'm a lil biased, seeing as my best friend knows him sooooo well since he moved from South Africa, and i've been told his whole life story practically . . . well, thats my opinion! |

my personal opinion, this could be about a girl who got pregnant unwillingly, maybe she was underage or something, but the guy who did it is trying to be honorable and get married now so that the baby will not seem like such a bad thing. doesn't really tie in with the rest of the song, but that isn't the point! its such a good song anyway =) "Don't you love the life you killed" bad things have happened in the past, and now this but she has to try and get through it because she can't repair the damage anyway "The priest is on the phone" can still work with my theory, he could be a really nice priest with a bad choice to make: let the girl suffer the shame of having an iligitemate kid or help her get an abortion, which is completely against the church's beliefs "Your father hit the wall Your ma disowned you" hmmm. the parents found out. "Don't supposed I'll ever know What it means to be a man" he means he didn't act quickly enough, he wasn't strong enough to save her from the shame, he just wasn't enough of a man "Somethin' I can't change I'll live around it" he has to try and help her and himself, he'll have to live around it. yeah. and when he says "do you wanna get married or run away?" he could mean running away from the shame, as well as physically =) love this song |
