Ok so here's my guess... It sounds to me like a bad relationship with his father (possibly physically or emotionally abusive) cuz he talks about being "taken out" for his father(?) to "make a point"... ... and how it's effected him... it pisses him off that his father doesn't care about him or his music which is the most important thing to him... and now he's REALLY hard on himself cuz he talks about "not having a throat" and "effing up lines"... Sounds like he had a really hard time dealing with everything... possibly considering killing himself cuz he talks about, "a book of thoughts that could take from his life" (suicide letter?) and seems like he fought the urges to end things when he talks about, "having to fight, to just make it through the night and survive" ... it also sounds like he wants to confront his dad about everything ("So where's your head, and all your heart? I've got a plan to make this work, but I can't bring myself to try") but he just can't do it and it frustrates him.... i don't know... i could be WAY off but thats what it sounds like to me |

| It seems to me that it is about him being in love with someone but they are apart for some reason and hes really missing her. He needs ANYTHING to get his mind off of the girl. He doesn't care about anything but her. ("these train conversations are passing me by and i don't have nothing to say...) The girl won't to talk to him ("i get no answers") She moved away and is no where around him. He's aware and excited by little things like hearing a train in the distance... cuz he just needs SOMETHING to get his mind off of her... make sense? | |

I think it's about a friends. The guy is in love with the girl but she doesn't feel the same way about him. But, she always turns to him when she needs help, "Sweep it into the corner Or hide it under the bed" He doesn't want to tell her. He's afraid it will ruin their friendship. It seems like he's kind of fighting with himself in the song. Going back and forth between having to tell her the truth ("the last time.") or keeping it to himself and staying the person she relies on. (You fall on me for anything you like, and i don't mind) Great song... The fact that the lyrics are dark but the melody is more upbeat also, i think, eludes to the way he feels about the situation. |

This song is incredible!! My father had an affair after my parents were married for almost 30 years. i was about the same age as the girl in the video. This song is about how much something like that effects the person you are. The first time i heard this song i had to sit down and cry because there has never been a song that described my feelings better than this. You never trust anyone again, not even yourself. Which makes it impossible to ever be close to anyone. And no matter what you do, you will never feel whole again. Also, this song perfectly describes the pain of watching your mother fall to peices trying to deal with what the father has done. so if you have a friend that has a family who has gone through this, be there for them, even if they act like they don't want you to or don't need you. They DO need you! |
