The Knife – We Share Our Mother's Health Lyrics

Reading the lyrics it seems like a battle between strength and ease - it is obviously about someone coming down from a hard place (the north - where it is cold and dark, blue hands, a torch), and finding a place where everything is easy and warm and delicious. Then the deeper voice is like "no, you don't need this, you can survive without it", and then "we are stronger and better than you because we have to fight harder" (shining brighter etc). |

Depression due to lack of self confidence and the question of whether to depend on an object like shoes to give you the strength to break out of your cycle. |

Fear Before – The Waiting Makes Me Curious Lyrics
| 16 years ago

This is about that sickening feeling you feel when you truly realise that you're going to go some day and are never coming back. (the serpents eyes), it makes you feel alive as you realise that you're here. This displaces you and makes you feel alone as you realise you're never truly with anyone, it is merely a construct of our physical brains.

matty while it was clear that terrorwalking was clearly a narrow minded douche, there's really no point in arguing with him on his level, it just lowers the signal to noise ratio on interesting discussion/pointless 1upmanship. |

He's saying society breaks people into material driven cold people as they mature and become to adults.
He wants someone to come back to the way they were when they were young. He's trying to tell them everything about what I'm explaining. |

Bloc Party – Luno Lyrics

This makes me think of what society does to people, needing beauty, plastic surgery. When we grow into to adults and as some, reject parents and lose innocence. He sees this in someone and wants it back.

It annoys me that out there there are so many cool sounding girls that like Jenny Lewis but I can't seem to find any of them. :c
I love Jenny's voice in this, it reminds me of Blink 182 for some reason. |

Buck 65 – Devil's Eyes Lyrics

Unhappy movements in your eyes is such a great phrase.
I thought it talked about the "Skins" style casual promiscuity and social...recklessness of society. A society full of peoples who's souls have become complacent and uncaring, driven by lust. How this is destroying us and making us depressed. I related it to youths mainly, the sorta older teenager, the party generation. My age. |

Rilo Kiley – Portions for Foxes Lyrics

"And the talking leads to touching
And the touching leads to sex
And then there is no mystery left"
Pretty much that.
I always see sex as the test of a relationship, I think its why there was so much domestic violence in the middle ages - now, we have a relationship, we have sex, it either gets stronger or spirals groundward. We either get bored or more strongly in love. Back then, when you had to wait until after commitment, those that would otherwise split up were forced together. Two broken lives.
The mystery thing reminds me of this program I saw on Japanese male sorta escort type things - girls paid by the hour to come to their club and party with them, but once they had had sex (the guys tried to avoid this for as long as possible) they never came back. The novelty was gone. You'd reached "that point" where you cannot get physically closer. It was a good documentary.
This song, characteristically is scarily to the point. Jenny seems like someone who's seen a lot in life and reflects on it but is still very much in touch with the times. She's drawn some excellent conclusions as evident in her songs.

I think the song is about how easy it is to allow your mind to close as you get older, how easy it is to slip into patterns of ignorance and how bad this is. |

I agree with heysailor - it's pretty chilling but also very well written. I love "At seventy miles per hour we rolled up together Let’s sleep in this ditch tonight and forever". |
