Silverchair – After All These Years Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Oh. The ending to this song is absolutely beautiful. |
Silverchair – After All These Years Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Definitely see the getting out of depression/recovering from the ED connection. A burden is being lifted off his shoulders, and you just want to forget about that black cloud, at least for now. |
Silverchair – Do You Feel The Same Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's about someone who hurt him. It doesn't necessarily have to be about love/relationship, just anyone who hurt him/eroded at his self esteem. Many believe that he's fine, but he can't be read ("read my spine" is a play on words IMO). |
Silverchair – Black Tangled Heart Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is about suicide and the letdown that comes along with suicide and/or slow death (you know you're on the path to killing yourself, you're just not there yet). "you may just be the last BEFORE YOU" Add on the next line. "You may just be the last before you see the black tangled heart fall" makes more sense. The receiver is the last person to be let down, to be loved/in the relationship, before he kills himself. |
Silverchair – Point Of View Lyrics | 15 years ago |
NB was a rather personal album, so I strongly doubt that it was about date rape. I honestly think its about vulnerability and those who try to fuck with your mind when you're in a vulnerable position---whether it be physically, emotionally, or psychologically. "Liberate the people that you hate Then cut yourself again" You're putting those who have hurt you above yourself, and its killing you inside. "Elevate then drop back down And see which ones remain" " They respect you when you're on top/strong; walk all over you when weak. "Accusation, does yes mean no? Or have you changed your mind? Kill the nation before it grows And be one of a kind Remember all that she can say Is that she knows she wants it" More mindplay. He's at her every whim. Probably an implicit feeling of worthlessness laced in there; she's playing around with you "she knows she wants it," but you can't leave her. "Pretend the steak's a cowboy" - I have to agree with the whole vegetarianism/deception thing. Swallow the crap people feed you if you're led to believe its something else. "And the kiss will kill you" - betrayal |
Silverchair – Spawn Again Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Maybe if Daniel ate more meat.. HE WOULDNT HAVE BEEN SO SICK.. but then he wouldnt have written such amazing songs.. sooo im kinda stumped." No. Vegetarianism + Mental illness = ZERO connection/correlation. ZERO. One is a disease, the other is a personal choice and perfectly healthy. Diseases are not choices. |
Silverchair – Untitled Lyrics | 15 years ago |
metboy111- WTF. Seriously. Eating disorders are DISEASES. THEY ARE NOT DIETS because you CAN'T STOP even when you want to stop. You wouldn't tell a diabetic or a person with AIDS that they're "babies", would you. Mental illnesses are just as bad as physical illnesses. |
Silverchair – Pop Song For Us Rejects Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't really think its necessarily about a friend going through an addiction. More like a person who is an absolute burden/albatross on your life, but you still have an inkling of caring about them. They're dragging you down with them, and you are saying its over. |
Silverchair – Emotion Sickness Lyrics | 15 years ago |
You can't get physically dependent("addicted") on antidepressants, but the entire principle of antidepressants means that you're somewhat relying on them emotionally. They regulate/control your emotions. You won't get physical withdrawal symptoms from going off the antidepressants, but your emotions will f-ck up a ton. |
Tree 63 – Be All End All Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Definitely a song about one's relationship with God. If you're feeling like this about a love interest, something is wrong. |
Sir Mix-A-Lot – Baby Got Back Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Society has learned nothing from Sir Mix-A-Lot. This song isn't necessarily a diss on naturally skinny girls as much as it is on the belief that full figured == fat. He's pretty much saying that girls shouldn't starve themselves or hurt their bodies to be "thin" by any standard. They should love themselves, because booty is sexy. |
Three Days Grace – On My Own Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's about someone who has fucked up in life, perhaps through a drug addiction, crime, etc., he has lost the trust and support of the one he loves, and he's admitting that he is a disgrace to his family/friends. |
Three Days Grace – Gone Forever Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think that this song is pretty much comparing a drug addiction to an abusive relationship. Because, in a sense, There are some obvious hints to drugs- ("so I'll stay up all night with these bloodshot eyes, while these walls surround me with the story of our life")- think, bloodshot eyes== drug withdrawal. When you are suffering from withdrawal from drugs, the drugs control your life, they are like an unwanted partner, you can't let them go no matter how hard you try. The same with an abusive partner you really love. He tries to escape the desire for hard drugs by using alcohol, a not so hard drug. Drugs ARE an abusive relationship, its just that the abuser isn't human. |
Sonic Youth – Reena Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I definitely see this as being about a secondary relationship with a woman. The "she" is the lover being seen secretive, whilst the "you" was the boyfriend/girlfriend. |
Sonic Youth – I Love Her All The Time Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about being so in love with someone that you are possessed by them. You think that your SO is always right , you're obsessed by them even though you can't understand them. |
Sonic Youth – (She's in a) Bad Mood Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hmm... I have to say that this song is about someone who goes and does bad things(cheating, perhaps), then acts all pouty and depressed to avoid the subject being brought up. He doesn't question her lies to her face, but he knows that they are lies. |
Sonic Youth – Self Obsessed and Sexxee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with BlamedTonight314. It's about getting to the top and being a "womanizer" in a sense by taking advantage of girls who might not be the most confident in nature. |
Ill Niño – When It Cuts Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about dealing with a lover or close friend who has a problem with cutting. When the friend cuts, you feel miserable, and nothing you do is stopping the friend from cutting. |
Bowling for Soup – Punk Rock 101 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
There is an error in the lyrics. In the last verse, the line is "My Dickies, your rock hands", not sweatbands. It's sweatbands in all the other verses. Pretty much, making fun of the stereotypical Hot Topic pseudo-punks that infest society. |
Silverchair – Ana's Song (Open Fire) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about anorexia. Ana == term of endearment for anorexia. For those people who STILL think that this song is about self injury or depression, here's the analysis. Please die ana For as long as you're here we're not You make the sound of laughter And sharpened nails seem softer And I need you now somehow And I need you now somehow He's saying that he doesn't *like* ana, but ana supposedly makes starvation seem easy and comforts him in a strange way(many anorexics say that), and he realizes that he needs ana. Open fire on the needs designed On my knees for you Open fire on my knees desires What I need from you Starvation. Pure and simple. Food is a human need. "Open fire" = fire a gun = kill. He wants ana to kill his needs and desires for food, since the body naturally desires food when hungry. Imagine a pageant In my head the flesh seems thicker Sandpaper tears corrode the filth And I need you now somehow And I need you now somehow Anorexics think that they are fat in their head regardless of how thin they might be (in my head, the flesh seems thicker). Sandpaper is used to scrape away at something unwanted, such as body fat on an anorexic. Open fire on the needs designed On my knees for you Open fire on my knees desires What I need from you And you're my obsession I love you to the bones And ana wrecks your life Like an anorexia life "I love you to the bones" is a pun on how most anorexics end up at one point or another, bone thin. Anorexia wrecks your life, but again, it is very difficult to break free from it. |
Senses Fail – Sick Or Sane (Fifty For A Twenty) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about feeling sick and paying a prostitute to "heal" him sexually(first verse gives this away). The "white coats" are the doctors and authorities who don't understand why he is paying a prostitute, going back to how society generally views men who pay prostitutes for sex as "sick lowlife scum". "I'm a genius with a headache" is him saying that he's not a piece of scum, he's a productive person who just needs a break. |
Sonic Youth – Shaking Hell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Rape, obviously. |
Sonic Youth – Making The Nature Scene Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I have to agree with toher.! on this one, Kim talks about nature in an abstract way and how everything simply fits in. About "Unity is not taught in schools", she is implying that this society is more a brute battle to the top where much lying and cheating occurs for personal advancement and little emphasis is placed in general on uniting to advance a goal. |
Sonic Youth – Protect Me You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about depending on someone for security in life instead of seeking things out for yourself, perhaps. |
Sonic Youth – Kill Yr. Idols Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think its about doing things for yourself as if every day is the last and not to impress other people. |
Sonic Youth – Brother James Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I would say religious zealots. They say that if you don't join their church, that you are definitely going to hell. "Watch 'em stick your head in the ground" means that they will "ground" you and brainwash you using threats of hell. |
Sonic Youth – Brother James Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Complete Lyrics: Take my hand he said to me follow now or you'll be damned let's go to the other side let's go to the other side Great Father, give me the keys Great Father, give me the keys Brother James gave them to me Brother James gave them to me I don't need 'em anymore someone knockin' at my door I don't need 'em anymore someone knockin' at my door take my hand you might as well we're going straight to hell I don't wanna hang around watch 'em stick your head in the ground |
Sonic Youth – Inhuman Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about someone who is very experimental, explores freely, possibly uses drugs, and learns things solely by experiment. When he says "But you don't know me", he's saying that people are quick to pass judgments about him based on his experimental, alternative ways. "Complete inhuman" is simply an exaggeration of that judgement. |
Fischerspooner – We Need a War Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Iraq, hands down. It could also be about war in general, but the line "a war to make us feel safe" -- many people think the Iraq war is protecting against another 9-11. Pretty much, Fischerspooner is commenting on the ridiculousness of the Iraq war and the motives behind it. |
Sonic Youth – Sunday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about a relationship where you only get to see the special someone on Sunday evenings. Everything is building up to the evening, that's why "Sunday always seems to move so slow". |
Sonic Youth – (I Got A) Catholic Block Lyrics | 17 years ago |
..but the inhibitions still exist (sorry, hit submit too early) |
Sonic Youth – (I Got A) Catholic Block Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The "Catholic block" is the Catholic image of guilt, and how you supposedly get to heaven on your good works. This song is how even after one has converted, they are no longer Catholic. |
Sonic Youth – I Dreamed I Dream Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yeah, its called "I Dreamed I Dream". I see two possible meanings. Either way, its the plight of working class youth in dead end mindless monotonous jobs. It could be about how the government takes more and more money through taxes and yet nothing positive is seen in return. "People suffer from impotence" == government officials. It's also about being young and stuck in a rut, a dead end job (All the money's gone) which doesn't pay much but is the pinnacle of monotony(The days we spent go on and on). They suffer from impotence, they feel useless. They dream, but their dreams are also impotent. |
Sonic Youth – Orange Rolls, Angel's Spit Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The girl is a wreck, she treats the guy like crap and leaves constantly, but the guy still is head over heels for her, and she can keep coming back and "uses" the guy in a sense. If she hurts him, they make up endlessly without effort. |
Sonic Youth – Androgynous Mind Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is an attack against religious fundamentalists who use "God" to advocate violence against LGBT people. "God is gay" is an attack as well because these people say that "god" would support them for this violence when in reality, their god has stated that they must "love their neighbor and leave revenge to god". In the song, the gay guy gets beat up by religious fundies, and Thurston assures the guy that the fundies were wrong and he was right. |
Sonic Youth – Screaming Skull Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I have to agree with owennnnnnnnnn on this one. This was definitely poetic justice, since Sonic Youth was formerly on SST. |
Sonic Youth – The Sprawl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The lyrics don't support any references to "Neuromancer". Prostitution, plain and simple. "Fuck you! Are you for sale?" is an expression of how the men call to her. "I've gone native" means that she's gotten used to prostitution. The third stanza (I grew up...started) is full of metaphors for a rough life, the life which drove her to prostitution(that's where it all started) "The Sprawl" could also mean the busy part of a city, usually the place where prostitutes work. |
Sonic Youth – Shoot Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The woman is asking for money, and permission to get an abortion. |
Sonic Youth – Shoot Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The woman is asking for money, and permission to get an abortion. |
Sonic Youth – Incinerate Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with proxima on this one. The guy can't get rid of a memory, and its burning him down because he still possesses passion, or "fire" for the girl, but she doesn't want him back. ("you doused my soul with gasoline", "the sirens are coming to put me out of misery") |
Sonic Youth – Sleepin' Around Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Relationship troubles. Either the husband or the wife is cheating on the other, and pretty much, he's saying that all the good that the cheater has done in the relationship doesn't justify going out and sleeping around. |
Sonic Youth – Junkie's Promise Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the song is about how one lets down the people who care about him/her despite how much he doesn't mean to, the addiction always prevails, and how the "junkie" feels defeated ("you know I hate myself, but I love everybody else") but can't help himself despite how much he cares for his loved ones ("i can't escape myself") . Some of the people who care about him begin losing hope in him, losing faith, and when he finally comes clean, many people he cares about have already abandoned him. (and then you do and now there's no one else). |
Sonic Youth – Chapel Hill Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Cradle" = Cat's Cradle, famous venue in Chapel Hill "Jesse H." - longtime NC senator Jesse Helms "Durham H.C." - Durham is another town that's right near Chapel Hill, so is Raleigh "Char Grill" - I think that's a restaraunt..??? Definitely about the political polarity of NC and its conservative nature. |
Sonic Youth – I Love You Mary Jane (with Cypress Hill) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Pretty much, its a song about marijuana and how casual its usage has become in society nowadays.("Can I call Marijuana if you wanna party") It is also about its "hook", its addiction...the same way one would be "hooked" on a love interest, in a sense ("Sugar come by and get me high") |
