Ensiferum – Wanderer Lyrics 15 years ago
Interestingly Odin, the Norse chief deity, was called (among other things) The Wanderer. However, I don't think this song has anything to do with that. Just an interesting fact...

Rammstein – Amour Lyrics 15 years ago
Hah! I've never seen the cocaine reference before... but you're right, it can mean a drug addiction as well. I should have seen it really, as my english and german is about equal (3rd and 4th languages respectively) :)

however, knowing rammstein songs, its not impossible it was meant to have a double meaning all along (much like adios).

Tiamat – Cain Lyrics 15 years ago
It was hardly written "for" Bloodlines... the album came out more than a year before the game. It just seems so shallow to attribute the song to a white wolf legend; sigh, I don't know.

If I remember correctly, nevermore is another name for a poisonous plant, deadly nightshade perhaps. I doubt its a reference to te band.

hey youre right, they do sound perfect together... only notice it now that you mention it.

Nightwish – Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean (feat. Tapio Wilska) Lyrics 16 years ago
how exactly do you see the link to the cthulu mythos? beyond the "thing" from the sea... do tell please. i think its part of a kind of a concept album, just part of the story of the "oceanborn", who- or whatever that may be. the birth perhaps. we have played with the idea that tuomas sees himself as the ocean soul; perhaps its just part of a private fantasy...

er thanks but no-one really cares beyond the first explanation.

whoops ghost *love score. my bad.

Nightwish – Wish I Had an Angel Lyrics 16 years ago
agreed. this seems to be their most er... physical song to date, both in meaning and in expression. the song, to me, is about a guy lusting after a virgin, simple as that. i might be wrong.
also, i like this whole album much less than the rest of their work, which is not to say its bad. the orchestra thing was taken a leeeetle bit too far i think. nevertheless, this song, nemo, siren and ghost opera score is still brilliant.

Nightwish – Bye Bye Beautiful Lyrics 16 years ago
hehe owned. i must say i like anette's voice more and more. its hardly country-rock... i also dont believe tuomas actually romantically loved tarja, this is just a farewell song plain and simple. we all know there was a bit of a bad feeling between tarja and the res of the band at the end, it comes through in these lyrics i guess. its a bit ironic that anette sings it though... hehe. im also enjoying marco's voice much more. he can actually sing pretty damn well.

Nightwish – Elvenpath Lyrics 16 years ago
heh, as self-accepted fantasy geek i love this song. most power metal lyrics border on ridiculous in any case; its totally fine if they have somewhat childish lyrics every once in a while, as long as the music is good (which it is). As to tarja's pronunciation, remember english isnt her mother language, she speaks with a marked accent. the first time i heard this song i also heard elvengoth; i still hear elvenbath even now. im sure we can however all say its meant to be elvenpath :)
another point, the name Mielikki is the name of a nature deity in the dungeons and dragons Forgotten Realms setting. its amusing it should crop up in such a song, although i must say i did figure tuomas for a bit of a fantasy role-player...

Theatre of Tragedy – A Rose For The Dead Lyrics 16 years ago
btw, two words: leaves' eyes. liv kristine's new band, along with her husband. its along the same lines as ToT, only its got liv... long live liv.
she's got the ultimate goth metal voice, with simone simons a *very* close second. although vibeke stene from tristania also comes quite close.

Iced Earth – The Reckoning (Don't Tread On Me) Lyrics 16 years ago
heh i cant help sniggering at your nick shadarlogoth, but then again i know where its from :)
i do agree with you though, as far as i know when the eagle cries is their 9/11 song, and logically speaking the 9/11 theme makes little sense in this song. ive seen the movie and it does compute.
another point, cant we all sign a petition or something to bring back barlow? please? ive got absolutely nothing against ripper owens, but his voice doesnt fit with iced earth, at all. it fitted with judas priest. its all good and well to try and serve your county, but YOUR FANS NEED YOU MAN MATT :(
*cough*
sorry bout that

Rammstein – Ohne Dich Lyrics 16 years ago
its about love; hence, love song. id agree that its not a *ballad*, as such, just more toned-down i suppose. i also read the bit about his parents, think it might be true?

Rammstein – Amour Lyrics 16 years ago
this is the most beautiful love song in the world, hands down. its not even a ballad, its plain a powerhouse of emotion. i would say amour is about the passionate side of love; it rips you apart, it breaks you, it eats you alive... but you dont care, you still go back for more, because you cant live without it. truly powerful stuff

Rammstein – Adios Lyrics 16 years ago
er, i'd go with the drug theory as well... however, as with so much of rammstein's songs, there's an alternate meaning. to me it describes music as the ultimate trip; that without music you are empty, only with the music in your "veins" are you really alive. just a thought...

Therion – Typhon Lyrics 17 years ago
Perhaps. However, the "original" Typhon was a titan in Greek mythology, son of Gaia and Tartarus. He tried to overthrow Zeus as king of the gods. Read the lyrics, its about that one. Erebos (Erebus), Nyx and Tethys are also titans in the same legend. The lyrics seem quite easy to understand, just an accompaniment to the awesomeness of the music.

Inkubus Sukkubus – Io Pan Lyrics 17 years ago
it is quite catchy yes. i assume this song is about the different aspects of some pagan god, either our take on satan or whatever. anyone any ideas?

Theatre of Tragedy – A Rose For The Dead Lyrics 17 years ago
*please* dont spell vampire "vampyre", unless you mean it sarcastically. this has nothing to do with anne rice groupie skin goth wannabees.

also, isnt the lyrics rather "lord/lady of carnage"? without the l?

i would however agree this song does have s certain vampiric twist. its as good a explanation as any, i suppose.

Diary of Dreams – Rumours about angels Lyrics 17 years ago
Anyone know where the intro and outro to this song comes from? The spoken part? It sounds a lot like that old cyberpunk movie Dark City, but im not sure.

Iced Earth – I Died For You Lyrics 17 years ago
Songs in general and Iced Earth songs in particular can evoke quite strong emotions. I Died For You has a haunting melody and extremely sad lyrics. If you're in an emotional state, it's quite possible to cry over this song. Anyway...

Nightwish – The Siren Lyrics 17 years ago
erik, just a random comment, someone already did that, kind of. symphony x has an album called the odyssey, in which they chronicle some if not all of homer's illiad.

brilliant song; my fave off the once album at any rate. yes there are illiad overtones.

Tiamat – Cain Lyrics 17 years ago
Am I the first to comment on this incredible song? Wow.
I must admit, this one has me stumped. There are some definite Biblical connotations ("Cain" itself and "the tower they built to reach the sky" is the tower of Babel). The names at the end are apparently deitic figures in Thelema, the religion/magic order that Aleister Crowley started. I have no idea how this ties in anywhere...

Agalloch – A Desolation Song Lyrics 17 years ago
An amazing song; it does something to the soul. And with an accordion no less!

I think at the lowest level this song can be taken as a lament to an actual love lost, and the depression one experiences after losing love.
However, knowing Agalloch, the song should have a deeper and totally different meaning. I think this song encapsulates the futility and hopelessness of life. The "love" spoken about is the love of life, and the narrator is contemplating suicide (perhaps by the poison in the cup). It would tie in to the overall nihilistic approach in the rest of the album.

Kamelot – Karma Lyrics 17 years ago
Am I alone in being remembered of the Arthurian saga? This song, by a band called "Kamelot" no less...

To elaborate; one of the legends of Arthur was he was to die on a battlefield, in the moment of his greatest glory. I'm not too sure how legitimate this story is, but it does tie in nicely with the "karma" part doesn't it. I think Arthur did something evil or made a mistake while wielding the blessed sword Excalibur, and as a result was to die; hence the "karma".

I can't find a version of this legend anywhere though, so don't take what I say too seriously.

Iced Earth – Dracula Lyrics 17 years ago
I tend to agree that this song is more about the fictional character Dracula than the real Vlad Dracul (Vlad Tepes). There are however some "real-life" references; for instance "the Order of the Dragon" was an order of knights to which Vlad's father belonged (from there came the "Dracul", meaning "son of the dragon). Well done Iced Earth for getting the little things right. ^^

Iced Earth – Dante's Inferno Lyrics 17 years ago
Most of the names chanted are either demon's names from Judeo-Christian mythology or other "well-known demon's names from other cultures. From memory I can remember Asmodeus, Mephisto and Be'elzebub. Tiamat is the goddess of chaos and the ocean in Sumerian mythos (and is also the name of a damn good gothic metal band ^^). Be'elzebub or "the lord of the flies" is a duke of hell (i.e. boss demon), as is Asmodeus. Mephisto (or Mephistopheles) is the "famous" demon from Faust.

I have read the whole of the Divine Comedy, and Shaffer & associates got the feel down brilliantly. Well done Iced Earth.

Another point, the three-headed dog's name IS Cerberus, not Cerebus.
