Yo La Tengo – Our Way to Fall Lyrics 17 years ago
conetoaster11 got it. i love this song... it's about two people falling in love... everything is so new and exciting. and so hopeful. the best part about this song: i feel that years later the love is just as good as it was in the beginning, in fact even stronger. very special. these two are very blessed.

Kings of Convenience – I Don't Know What I Can Save You From Lyrics 17 years ago
i agree with the other posts... i think this song is about knowing someone, understanding them in a way that you were not capable of when you were involved in a romantic relationship with them. so he gets a call from an old lover. it brings up feelings for him. it's like he's trying to shape in his mind again, what she looks like, her subtleties, but more than that... he's trying to recall what he loved about her, and maybe what he misunderstood. suddenly he has an urge to ask her over, and within an half an hour, she's there again. it's like two people, apart for so long, and in some way subconsciously, they are still silently communicating, both trying to connect and understand the other for who they are... and all it takes is one call to make it a reality again.
he realizes how she's evolved, which makes it easier for him to see how much he still feels for her. he thinks, 'hey, maybe its possible after all for us'. yet, he is also haunted by the fact that he feels that she seems to need him, to complete her. 'i don't know what i can save you from'. he feels he needs to save her, from what, he doesn't know. he feels incapable of this. two people, reconnecting and realizing how much they still have for each other... but can it really work??? it is such a bitter-sweet song, it gets me every time.

Yo La Tengo – Black Flowers Lyrics 17 years ago
when i hear this song, i think about the beginning of the end of a relationship. one of the hardest parts: the realization that you have been in denial, that it isn't working anymore. one person in the relationship is witnessng the other slowly pulling away. the person pulling away is dreaming of how things could change for the better, and wakes up 'crying'. the other doesn't want things to end, believes that things will work out. maybe this person realizes that there is no 'real McCoy'... he is almost saying "go ahead, try and find it, it doesn't exist" like nothing is perfect, what we have IS the real thing....

"You can never sleep enough
And your alarm is going off
You wake up and you can't pretend
A dream was just a dream again
Won't you dry your eyes?

it is hard to describe exactly what i feel this song means literally... it is such a great song and everytime that i hear it, i realize how much i relate to it... in what way? i feel like the person drifting away in the relationship, yet somehow i still empathize with the person who is still in love and has been there supporting all along... that is the beauty in this song, it gives me understanding for both people struggling... each on their own journey...
