Tegan and Sara – I Was a Fool Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I feel this song is about, well, being a fool for love. Letting your own desires and wants for someone else get in the way of your better judgement. It's akin to 'being a punching bag' - you constantly take their hits but, just stand their. |
Tegan and Sara – Shock to Your System Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Seems to be about a relationship ending. The circumstances aren't clear so it could be a break-up, a fight, or even about the death of another. I think the bigger message is to move on, though. |
Tegan and Sara – I Couldn't Be Your Friend Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It sounds like the speaker is telling someone (they don't make it clear the relationship but, it could be a lover or friend) that their relationship is over. No matter what either one of them may try, it's not going to work. |
Brandi Carlile – That Wasn't Me Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think this song speaks to anyone who's ever been at rock bottom, regardless of how or why they got there. Nobody is inherently bad or unworthy, and sometimes life just takes us to strange places, for better or for worse. Sometimes, people can't understand what it's like until they've been there, too. |
Alanis Morissette – Guardian Lyrics | 12 years ago |
She said this in a video: "So this song, really speaks to the guardianship and the protection that I feel toward my own son, and frankly, toward all the people whom I love. I get very protective within my loyalty to those whom I love." |
Scissor Sisters – Year of Living Dangerously Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's just about letting go and finding yourself; living for you and not worrying about what other people think. |
Scissor Sisters – Inevitable Lyrics | 12 years ago |
On the surface it seems to be about a couple who have broken up and the one is just waiting for the day that the other will realize their mistake and come back to them. However, it also comes off as a bit of an obsession with the other person. |
Scissor Sisters – Somewhere Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The chorus seems to be about people, who have so much potential to do great things, that are being held back by insecurities, fear, shame, etc. However, I can't seem to relate that to the verses though. |
Gossip – Move In The Right Direction Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song is simply about moving on from what seems like a bad experience. Don't look back, don't be sad or upset, and just 'move in the right direction'. |
Gossip – Move In The Right Direction Lyrics | 12 years ago |
One step closer and feeling fine Getting better one day at a time I'm moving forward with all of my might I'm headed toward a new state of mind So I hold back tears Move in the right direction Face my fears Move in the right direction I'm doing fine One step closer every day at a time I won't lose my mind Lose my mind, uh-uh, ooh Motivation, a powerful strength Hesitation was my first instinct I got the notion that weakness was Total devotion, it's OK because I will hold back tears So I can move in right direction I have faced my fears Now I can move in the right direction I'm doing fine One step closer every day at a time I won't lose my mind Lose my mind, uh-uh, ooh Keeping my head up, looking forward Reminiscing will get you nowhere Never say never, starting over It's not perfect but it's getting closer I hold back tears So I can move in the right direction I have faced my fears Now I can move in the right direction I'm doing fine One step closer every day at a time I won't lose my mind Lose my mind, uh-uh, ooh |
Adam Lambert – kickin' in Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Getting drunk and getting high. :) |
Dragonette – Let It Go Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think this song is saying that we don't need to carry the weight of the world. Rather than get angry when we can't cope - just 'let it go'. |
Bif Naked – Lucky Lyrics | 12 years ago |
No, she isn't. She's been married to a man since 2007. Check your facts before posting. |
Scissor Sisters – Isn't It Strange Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Hey Truajaka, Great to see some more input on the lyrics. I updated them to reflect your changes, they seem correct. I've also added some more of my own. Will try and figure a bit more out later. |
Nicki Minaj – Stupid Hoe Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Even if she won't admit it, this is clearly a diss at Lil' Kim. |
Scissor Sisters – Return to Oz Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Even without knowing about the film, the song can be about something that is killing you but, you keep wanting to return to 'the good times' with it but, you can't. It could be drugs, a relationship, etc... |
Scissor Sisters – Sex and Violence Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I kinda get that this song is about how sex and violence can often be one in the same, but not in the best way (rape, abuse, etc). Not sure - it just seems like a sad song. |
Scissor Sisters – Skin Tight Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Jake described this as a love song. It's about being really close (skin-tight) to someone. |
Lights – Peace Sign Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The song is about having that stable, guiding 'thing' in your life. That 'thing' can be faith, a person, a lover, an ideal, etc. When everything and/or everyone around you is going crazy, it's the one thing you can hold on to that won't change. |
Lights – Heavy Rope Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The song is a cry out for help, to someone, something, anything to save you. Like a last, desperate plea for redemption. |
Audio Adrenaline – Goodbye Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Pretty easy song but, it's really touching. It's just explaining how hard saying 'goodbye' can be at times but, we have to look to the future and remember the good times. :) |
Lights – Cactus In The Valley Lyrics | 12 years ago |
While the song may make some references to the Bible and whatnot, it doesn't necessarily have to be about a relationship with God. Honestly, I just think it's a really beautiful love song. Basically, the speaker is saying that, no matter what happens to them, no matter how they feel or look, no matter how low this person may become, they hope that someone will not forget them and still love them, despite all the 'dark parts'. Life can get really hard but, we all need love. We're all worthy and deserving of love, no exceptions. |
Florence + the Machine – You've Got the Love Lyrics | 12 years ago |
That's the great thing about music; it can be interpreted in many ways. It very well may be about God/Christ but, it doesn't have to be. In general, the song is just a really great love song. Whether it's for a partner, family, or friends. |
Classified – The Day Doesn't Die Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The lyric, 'The day doesn't die till the sun is set' can be seen as a metaphor for life. In that, nothing is over until we die so we can't live our lives full of hate, remorse, and fear. We all have to learn to, as the song suggests, 'forgive and forget'; regardless of the who or why we've been wronged, we can't dwell on it. A really great song. :) |
Marina and the Diamonds – Fear and Loathing Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I don't think the user who submitted these even listened to the whole song; anyways, here is the correct lyric: I lived a lot of different lives Been different people many times I live my life in bitterness And fill my heart with emptiness And now I see, I see it for the first time There is no crime in being kind Not everyone is out to screw you over Maybe, yah, just maybe they just want to get to know you Now the time is here Baby, you don't have to live your life in fear And the sky is clear It's clear of fear Don't wanna live in fear and loathing I wanna to feel like I am floating Instead of constantly exploding In fear and loathing Got different people inside my head I wonder which one that they like best I'm done with tryin' to have it all And ending up with not much at all And now the time is here Baby, you don't have to live your life in fear And the sky is clear It's clear of fear, of fear Don't wanna live in fear and loathing I wanna to feel like I am floating Instead of constantly exploding In fear and loathing And when the time comes along And the lights run out I know a light will burn on When they blow me out |
Lights – Everybody Breaks A Glass Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Pretty easy song to interpret. We're all human, we're not perfect, we all make mistakes and, to a lesser degree, nothing lasts forever. The rap takes a different perspective and explains how we fear looking weak in front of our peers. It furthers explains how we will go to great lengths (drugs and alcohol) in order to prevent this, perhaps referencing peer pressure. |
Foo Fighters – Walk Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I believe this song is about finally saying, 'Enough is enough', and finally choosing to live for yourself. Set aside all the hype, the media, the lies, and the bullshit. The music video supports this. It shows Dave walking through the city, and just getting stepped on at every turn. However, he doesn't take it lying down, so to speak, and stands up for himself. It's quite hilarious. I think the first verse, with the signal, is the speaker talking to themselves. They're looking back at their old selves, and realizing they need to change things. I think the second verse, with paper mountains, is reminiscing at a better times, perhaps childhood. The bridge, which is amazing, is sort of the 'fuck you' to the world. Finally, the chorus is pretty self explanatory. It's their declaration of independence, and of starting over. Amazing song. :) |
Lady GaGa – The Edge of Glory Lyrics | 13 years ago |
As told by Gaga on The Howard Stern Show, the song it about her grandfather. However, it's also about 'knowing in your heart that you may never reach that glorious moment until you die'. So, one has to 'live life on the edge', 'halfway between heaven and hell', dancing in the middle; 'purgatory'. Basically, live life to the fullest because you may be trying to reach your 'glory' until you die, if you ever reach it at all. Great song, especially the acoustic version from The Howard Stern show I referenced. |
Dragonette – Fixin to Thrill Lyrics | 13 years ago |
While this may be about a male stripper, I think the explanation is a little more simple. The song is about guys who are too uptight to have a good time - the need to loosen up. |
The Sound Of Arrows – MAGIC Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Based on the video and the children singing in the chorus, this song is pretty clearly about not forgetting what it means to be a child. The lines are pretty clear in their meaning but, they're basically telling us to always explore, always question, always ask, always seek new possibilities, and don't sweat the small things in life. |
Matt Alber – End of the World Lyrics | 13 years ago |
A quote directly from Matt, regarding the song. "The biggest love of my life had fallen out of love with me because he thought I had fallen out of love with him. This was the saddest thing that had happened in my life romantically to date. The song was a real attempt to reconcile with someone who meant very much to me." Using the metaphor of a roller coaster for a relationship, and that roller coaster, like the relationship, coming to an end. Also, about trying to let go at the end of a relationship. |
Amanda Lepore – I Want Your Number Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Doesn't necessarily mean that she wants someones phone number, though I'm sure it could be taken that way. I think the lyrics, in referring to all those 'statistics' is asking the person, 'Which statistic do you belong to?' since you can learn a lot about someone based on that. |
Mother Mother – The Stand Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Well the meaning is pretty clear. The speaker is trying to comprehend societies vices and addictions; alcohol, sex/porn, drugs, social status, wealth, cigarettes. He's getting tired of it all. He then makes a rather nice reference to space. I believe he's trying to imply that their is beauty in everything (including space, which we may see as simply cold and lonely), and we don't need all this shit around us to be happy. I think the title then, 'The Stand' is referencing taking a stand against all this excess. |
Mother Mother – Wisdom Lyrics | 13 years ago |
On the payroll And digging UP ditches Dollar is LOW So are my wages I wanna trade my dimwits in for tips Tips are 'QUIPPED WITH |
Take That – What Do You Want From Me? Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The meaning is quite clear. The speaker is becoming concerned that their relationship with their partner isn't what it used to be. They're concerned about whether it's worth spending more time on a, perhaps, failing relationship and if they're even worthy of this person anymore. However, at the same time they do have hope, despite what may have occurred - they're looking forward to moving forward, through these hardships, with this person. The chorus has the speak pleading, or crying out to this other person. They still love them and need to know what it will take for them to make it work. |
La Roux – As If By Magic Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think she is using marijuana, smoking it specifically, as a metaphor, for trying to stay positive and level headed during a breakup. The evidence is too clear for it to at least not be a reference to weed; smoky universe, day rolled into one, head in the clouds. I don't see why people are getting so bent out of shape in just considering it could be referencing pot. FFS - get over yourself and come back to this century. |
Take That – I'd Wait For Life Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song makes me cry every single time I hear it. It's clearly about a lost love; whether they've broken up or simply drifted apart. Either way, the speaker is expressing how much he loves the person and how he'll wait until he'll wait for them to be together again until he dies. |
Lights – Ice Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I feel the song is being sung to herself. She's become a cold, hard shell of herself and she's struggling internally to get back that light and emotion that she once had. Perhaps she's become complacent, jaded, who knows. Maybe I feel this is the meaning only because I often have these kinda conversations with myself. |
Scissor Sisters – Something Like This Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Not a very difficult song to interpret. Guy starts dancing with another guy, song ends, the two part ways. Now the one guy is looking for the other and can't get 'their' song out of his head and won't leave until he finds him. I assume it's two guys only because 3/4 of the band is gay, and the other is a total hag. :P Catchy song. |
RuPaul – LadyBoy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
A 'ladyboy' is a term generally used in Thailand but, can also apply to other SE Asian cultures. It refers to either a M2F individual, an effeminate gay man, or a 'drag queen'. This song is really just a fun take on it all. |
RuPaul – Champion Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Pretty much WolfSibera but, there is something deeper. It's about taking a stand for what you are and what you believe in, and fighting till the end. People will laugh at and mock you but, you can't give up. In the end, it'll show you were right all along, 'for the children such and such'. |
Scissor Sisters – Isn't It Strange Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Yes - horrible interpretation but, having found *nothing* elsewhere, I figured incomplete and likely incorrect lyrics are better than no lyrics. Here's hoping someone can fix them up and we can get some conversation going. |
Scissor Sisters – Fire With Fire Lyrics | 13 years ago |
While it very well could be a song about gay rights - I think it's more general, and just a song about standing up for what you believe in and fighting for it (love being the predominant theme but injustice, equality, racism, etc. would work). It's a really uplifting song. When facing the fire, fight back with fire. Hold nothing back. |
Robyn – Curriculum Vitae Lyrics | 13 years ago |
As per the dictionary: n. pl. curricula vitae Abbr. CV A summary of one's education, professional history, and job qualifications, as for a prospective employer. Basically a resume, but far more in depth. ------------------------------------------------------------------- So, to the song. This was the first song on Robyns 2005 album, 'Robyn'. This was the first release in which she showcased her new synth-pop/electro-pop/indie-tronica sound. Before this album, she was largely seen as a strictly pop artist. This spoken word song meant to introduce us to the 'new' Robyn. For the most part, the lyrics are jokingly listing Robyn's qualifications. The only real factual lyric is that she is, in fact, the founder and CEO of Konichiwa Records. Overall, it's an interesting song. A fun introduction to her new sound and image. |
Robyn – Time Machine Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The speaker regrets something they said and they wish they could go back in time and take it back. Catchy song. |
Robyn – Indestructible Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Pretty easy song to interpret. The speaker is rather taken by this other person and they're not going to allow themselves to taint this relationship by the experience(s) of their past. They didn't make the best choices, but it doesn't matter now. |
CockNBullKid – One Eye Closed Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The only conclusion I can come up with is that this song is about her kinda stalking a boy. The boy is rejecting her but she is refusing to accept it and now she won't leave him alone. So now, she is doing anything in her power to get with him and try and convince him their love is real, despite his opposition. She clearly speaks about speaking without reason or forethought. In other words, she's getting desperate and will say (and perhaps do) anything at this point. The chorus is just a little love poem to this guy. Kinda sweet but, in the context of the song it becomes a little creepy. She's tried of begging this guy to love her as well. She feels she is getting closer to breaking through to this guy (again, despite his opposition). "...you can run but I'll run faster" just emphasizes the point that she wants this more than he does. When it comes to the music video, it starts out with CnBK in a monster suit, walking about town handing out fliers, which she receives from a local store owner. After getting home and out of the suit, she clearly thinks of this suit as a person; eying it seductively, watching TV, and even sleeping with it. I feel this best represents this growing obsession with the guy. Later on, she awakes to find that the suit has actually come alive. It greets her in bed, makes her breakfast, and goes about town in a happy manner (without her inside), until it gets into a fight with a small child. At home, CnBK is seen singing and dancing, clearly joyous over this new relationship that has been forged. This best represents the delusional relationship she is seeking/imagining her and this guy are in. After, the suit arrives home, frustrated and annoyed, going so far as to actually attack CnBK. Retaliating, CnBK gets into a fight with the monster suit, destroying it in the process. Wound up, she gets in to bed, only to awake as one with the suit. She is the monster, and the monster is her. Finally, I feel this is simply a comment on how all this is in her head. Overall, CnBK once again melds the worst and most dark aspects of ourselves and society with a positive and upbeat tune successfully. The lyrics and their meaning juxtapose the tone of the singing and composition in a way that makes light of our worst parts. |
Lady GaGa – Born This Way Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Firstly, when she says 'capital H-i-m, she is not referring to Satan. She's meaning, whether you love him, him being another man, or capital H-i-m, meaning God. So, whether you love another man (homosexual) or God, it's irrelevant, you're perfect since you were born that way. I don't like how she gets so religious by mentioning God at all. I don't believe in a God, personally, and trying to say F-U to all those wing-nut evangelicals is a waste of breath. They don't deserve a single bit of attention, nor does an made up being they created. The meaning is pretty easy to decipher since the lyrics are, admittedly, very weak and shallow. It's got a good beat and although I think of 'Express Yourself' when I hear this, I don't think it's an all-out remake. The racial remarks are nothing to bitch over. A rapper can say, 'nigger', in their lyrics and all we do is bleep it out, end of story. The minute a white girl says, 'chola', or 'orient', she's a demon and should be burned. When a word becomes taboo like that, it gives the word more power. Seriously, stop being so sensitive. Definitely not her strongest work, by any means but, it sends a generally positive message and has a pretty good sound. Remains to be seen whether her next single, 'Jude', is any better. |
CockNBullKid – Hold On To You Misery Lyrics | 13 years ago |
A truly intelligent song, very glad she got added to SM.net, in addition to this song. I feel that the song is saying that we need misery, as much as we need good. Sometimes, it is this pain that drives us forward and allows us to grow. Instead of trying to fight all of it, 'hold on' to it and learn from it. Finally, it's saying that when we're down, we only have one way to go, and that's up. |
Florence + the Machine – You've Got the Love Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Although is does make clear references to God and Christ, it doesn't necessarily have to be a song about them. The lines where she references either can simply be taking as figures of speech, "Oh Lord, what's the use?" is something many people say when they're frustrated - the first thing that comes out their mouth is, "Oh Lord/Oh God, why?" kinda thing. The 'Savior' line could be referencing someone who really helped her through a tough time, and they've become the speakers pseudo-savior. Perhaps it's because I don't believe in God but, my mind immediately goes to this song simply being about someone she cares for deeply, and they've been their person savior at times. |
