Eminem – Without Me Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I came here to ask the same question! The video kind of explains it, but not really. |
The Cure – How Beautiful You Are... Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Ha ha, "feminine impermeability." I love it. |

I don't understand how the man could sing a song like this without just breaking down in tears midway through the performance. That is real strength. |
Tool – Vicarious Lyrics | 14 years ago |
They are talking about today's world, with TV. But when I listen to this song I always consider that this is not new behavior for humans. Death has always been entertainment, as long as it happens to someone else. Lynchings were a popular attraction throughout Europe and America until 100 years ago. The Romans pitted slaves against each other in fights to the death. It's a big morbid circus. Modern media just gives us easy access. Maybe it all goes back to the Jungian shadow stuff that og_tool has enlightened us with. That was an awesome comment. Another interpretation of my own, which is not supported much by the lyrics I admit, is that God is the one vicariously experiencing death through our mortality. God can't die, so he made life that way. It is cruel. We are made in God's image, sharing his nature while being human, so we are cruel. But, I don't know if this song is actually saying anything about God. |
Talking Heads – Drugs Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love it when people say "I drink, but I don't do drugs." I'm not anti-alcohol, I like to drink as much as the next guy, but just so you know, it's worse for your body, mind, and soul than most illegal drugs. |
Tool – Jerk-Off Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I like this response the best. I can relate to the song this way - I know a guy who seems to get away with anything. Even when he DOES get caught, he gets off easy. Makes me want to take justice into my own hands... but it's not my place. |
Tool – Merkaba Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Some people believe there is more to life than what we see. There are those who come to this belief because it is preached to them (they don't truly know, they just believe), and those who come to it through direct experience. You are correct that "new age" is bullshit, but that is because it is a crass commercialization of ancient and eternal knowledge. Try meditating. Maybe something will happen, maybe it won't. Anyway, to relate it to the song... How can you say Tool is not about chakras and sacred geometry? It features into their art and music in a very integral way. Take the end of the Parabol/a video, for example. Chakras! "We are immortal, we are eternal..." That sounds a little bit mystical to me. |
Tool – Terrible Lie (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I can imagine Maynard singing this song, and it sounds really awesome in my head. |
Brazilian Girls – La Territoire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
That is to say, sacre blue. |
Brazilian Girls – La Territoire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
holy shit |
Nine Inch Nails – Vessel Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Az Iz: I might have misread you, but you're bothered by his taking the Lord's name in vain? In that case, I would have to ask have you ever heard any of NIN's previous work. |
Amy Winehouse – Back To Black Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I really thought the line was "You love gold and I love pearls" which would be nice and poetic. But I guess blow and puff makes sense. Still, a penny rolling up a pipe? I'd like to see that. A penny rolling up a pie plate is weird too but that is what I heard at first listen. I thought it was a cool, surreal image, perhaps of being trapped. |
of Montreal – Your Magic Is Working Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The girl who turned me on to Of Montreal, I held her and gazed into her eyes for a long time when I first met her. I love this song. |
Nine Inch Nails – Right Where It Belongs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The first verse brings to mind one of my favorite poems, by Rainer Maria Rilke: The Panther (translated from the German) His vision, from the constantly passing bars, has grown so weary that it cannot hold anything else. It seems to him there are a thousand bars, and behind the bars, no world. As he paces in cramped circles, over and over, the movement of his powerful soft strides is like a ritual dance around a center in which a mighty will stands paralyzed. Only at times, the curtain of the pupils lifts, quietly. An image enters in, rushes down through the tense, arrested muscles, plunges into the heart and is gone. |
