Regina Spektor – 20 Years of Snow Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's about a girl living with her father. We was a pure and noble man and the world took advantage of him. "He's a wounded animal" "He's a dying bred"

His daughter followed his example and grew up to be pure, honest, and loving like her father. "She is twenty years of clean" "And she never truly hated anyone or anything" She grew up sheltered in a small town in the South, probably in Louisiana or South Carolina where it's swampy. "A baby of the swamps A baby of the south"

Over time, she tries to keep from becoming jaded as she ignores the advances of 'dirty old men'. As for the books, boots, boobs debate, I love how she writes her lyrics to support several different interpretations. I'd also like to give kudos to Ruviwen for the booze interpretation. It fits so well.

Regina Spektor – Us Lyrics 17 years ago
I absolutely LOVE wrat's interpretation! I had never heard it explained in that context.

Personally I always interpreted it as a young couple whose love is idealized and exagerated. Later when people realize that they're just normal flawed people, they become dissillusioned and angery for being let down by their idea of perfection.

Regina Spektor – Poor Little Rich Boy Lyrics 17 years ago
It's about a rich boy that's trying to keep up a good image, but is emotionally distant. He tries to be popular and look smart and have a beautiful girl friend, but none of that really matters to him. He's just keeping up apreances and he feels empty inside.

Regina Spektor – Sailor Song Lyrics 17 years ago
Regina's lyrics always have a twist to them. Perhaps Mary Ann is both. The girl back home and the ship. Both interpretations work, and I tend to choose the one that suites my current mood.

Side note: I would LOVE to have a cup of coffee with Regina and pick her brain for awhile.
