Damien Rice – Delicate Lyrics

I don't think this song is religious at all. The verse with the most meaning to me is:
"So why do you fill my sorrow
With the words you've borrowed
From the only place you've know
And why do you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
Why do you sing with me at all?"
This verse is about a relationship. He is singing about his relationship with someone whom he seemingly is in love with. The main line in this verse, to me, is 'why do you sing hallelujah if it means nothing to ya'. I think this line is essentially saying "Why do you say you love me when love means nothing to you?" This lover of his 'borrowed' the words from one of her previous relationships, perhaps, where someone said they loved her just to go to bed with her. This is 'filling his sorrow' because he knows she doesn't love him back and he is asking 'why she even sings with him at all' as a way of asking why does she even bother with him when she doesnt't love him.
With all that being said, I feel this song is about him loving someone and being in a relationship with her but the love being unrequitted(sp). She could just be going along with him for the ride or she may even think she loves him. She possibly equates lust with love.
Well thats just my interpretation.

I absolutely love this song. Maybe its about liking people for who they are and not what they look like. The end might mean let me know that you like me then I'll let you know. It might also mean that if you like me, than I like you. Just a guess. |

Wow, thats the first time I've ever heard Iron Maiden's music described as crappy. And yes, the guitar riff is very similar, just in a more mellow tone. Either way, both songs are great. |

Ya, the dustbowl thing never occured to me, but how are the dogs a sweet release from suffering if they represent hopelessness and poverty? As i see it, hopelessness and poverty are, kind of, a form of suffering. |

Tapes N Tapes – Insistor Lyrics

I think insistor is like a double-entendre for 'In sister' as in the popular sister or maybe the smart sister or both, which would explain a little bit more. So i think its about a girl who is going to Harvard but got pregnant. Her father and brother are really upset and mad at her, but her boyfriend or the narrator lets her know that 'Harvard square holds all inane' which i think means Harvard doesnt really mean anything, love does. Or something along those lines. |

I always thought he was calling god a bigmouth for telling joan of arc to do stuff that got her burnt at the stake or w/e and now for doing the same thing with Morrissey by putting him here with a lack of sexuality. |

Modest Mouse – Four Fingered Fisherman Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
Well i like to make storys out of songs kind of.
A man is arguing with a fisherman about how there 'indifferent in their own ways' which I think means theyre both alike in their own ways. The fisherman refuses to believe it and cuts a finger off while scaling the fish for the man (which the man is there to buy). They continue arguing on the way to the hospital while in the cab. Eventually the cabbie turns around and says their both right. The man thinks the fisherman is uptight because he wont give up his argument. Their both right because everyones different, but in some ways everyones the same. All night means he has to be at the hospital all night arguing because he has to be with him all night now cus it was kinda his fault too.
Weeds pulling weeds just means the argument is pointless. Well thats what i get out of the song. Its such a great song.
As for the meaning of the song i don't really know, but i like to think of it as a story. |

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) Lyrics
| 17 years ago

Here goes some people have already said some of this. The parents dont explain death to children. So his parents died young he wonders where the time has gone he shoulda spent more time with them. The power is out he goes looking for light which all the parents do even tho he isnt a parent he doesnt have any1 to look for light for him so he has to it himself. The kids are swinging on power lines because they have no parental supervision. So the next night he wakes up and the parents are yelling they have found the light, they have been away or neglectant for so long some of the kids have died, since nobody is warm and nobody is cold nobody cares about other people families just their own. So the shadows dancing are the familys who are still alive. Moral of the story,i think, parents should be lighting candels for their children, shining some light on them, the kids should know time is precious and that every1 dies and not to waste their time with loved ones and to just wake up someday and realize their gone and wish u had spent more time with them and to not only be selfish and care about themselves to also care about others.
But these lessons seem to echo thruough all of the neighborhoods, time is precious, every1 dies, cherrish the ones u love
well thats just how i see it, please object if u think im wrong |

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics

ooo and i don't think its about their whole families dying and the whole town dying because if his parents are crying before he dug the tunnel to get to her, theyre obviously not dead, would he just leave them to die if he wasnt dead? but since the snow covered the town so deeply in their afterlife they are above the actual town which in reality has been thawed for a long time but in their own afterlife world the snow is still there so they cant see anyone through the snow. Me rambling so much is just a testament to how much i like this song , ill probably forget something else or realize something else and make another post, sry again guys |

To add to that maybe its him consoling her because a snowstorm is coming towards their neighborhood, so he explains the worst possible thing, them dying and what that would be like. maybe?
If it was just a fantasy he would be able to control it, if it was their afterlife it wouldnt be his choice it would be maybe what they would most like, u wouldnt chose to whipe out a whole town except for u and some1 else. Sry for taking up ur time with my posts but if some1 actually reads these please post ur objections. |

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics

This is probably me being over critical but the wording in some of the song throws me off a bit.
"And if the snow buries my
My neighborhood
And if my parents are crying"
Hes talking to a girl in his neighborhood, wouldnt he say "our" instead of "my"
This makes me think of snow burying his neighborhood as a metaphor for him dying, that would explain why his parents are crying too.
Maybe by neighborhood he means his world that would explain a little more because his world could only be him and her. So if the snow buries his neighborhood it means they both die and i guess the rest of the song explains what their afterlife would be like together. This theory would also explain why there is no1 around. Since its their afterlives it would also explain why the snow doesnt seem to melt. So basically i think the song is him having a hypothetical death situation and afterlife for him and the girl in the song. I dont see it as just a fantasy because why would he make every1 dissapear if he had the choice, i dont think any1 would do that or even want that even if it was to be just with the 1 he loves, why not just have a fantasy of them running away together instead of living on top of a town where every1 just dissapeared or died. Either way i love this song and cant stop listening to it, my interpretation is most likely totally wrong and i doubt any1 will read the whole thing anyways. This is my favorite of the Neighborhoods. |

The Smiths – This Charming Man Lyrics

I love this song so much, i think the rings refers to the riches and money the charming man offers him but his friend the pantry boy or something is telling him to give the stuff back because '?'love cant be bought'?' or u shouldnt take the easy way out as some1 said. I dont really know im probably wrong but i love this song especially the line "Why ponder life's complexities when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?" its just so catchy. |

I agree with the he found love point of view just because of the lines
"Happiness
Coming and going
I watch you look at me
Watch my fever growing
I know just who I am"
Thats exactly how i feel when i see the person i like walking by although i dont talk to that person my stomache turns everytime i see them but i know theres noway the relationship would ever work but im content seeing them and thinking about them, although i only have 3 days left to see them and then i graduate. :'( |
