Roxy Music – Avalon Lyrics 17 years ago
Possibly the most pleasing song I've ever heard. Absolutely beautiful.

The Tragically Hip – Thugs Lyrics 17 years ago
Payne, that sounds like an entirely different song altogether.

As for the birds around the feeder part. I see this simply as a glimpse into the mind of a "thug" who does a lot of "rolling." Basically, a cat, who would normally chase birds one at a time on opportunity, will, when they are gathering and are distracted, will get closer to his prey by seeming disinterested.

This is a basic passive, offensive move. Get closer to the object of your desire by seeming to be disinterested.

The Beatles – Got to Get You Into My Life Lyrics 17 years ago
You know what's funny to me? How some people hear take what a performer says a song is about at face value. The last thing any writer wants to hear about their work is an insipid, uncreative journalist asking them to explain their lyrics. How would you feel if someone has asked you everyday for ten years straight, what something you did was about. The Beatles being the funny lads they were NEVER gave a straight answer to an interviewer. Especially Lennon and McCartney. They've said Lucy was about LSD and they've said it wasn't. They said this song was about pot and that it wasn't. They loved palying with interviewers like that as any of you would, given the chance. Geeze. "The man hears what he wants to hear" rings pretty true to me.

The Beatles – Lady Madonna Lyrics 17 years ago
None of you guys ever heard of the Madonna/whore syndrome? How women are placed (either by men or their own programing) into being the supreme mother and also the hottest harlot at the same time?

The Beatles – Tomorrow Never Knows Lyrics 17 years ago
Read somewhere else where this song has come to be recognized as the first "psychadelic" song. That distinction also comes up when the 13th Floor elevators are mentioned, but since nobody outside of Austin ever heard of them, the props go to John Lennon.

Barenaked Ladies – The Ballad of Gordon Lyrics 17 years ago
So is every third guy in Canada named Gordon?
Heck, the Tragically Hip has TWO Gordons in it.

The Tragically Hip – Thugs Lyrics 17 years ago
It's interesting, the first two lines of the song, Gord lifted them directly from an old dinosaur vs humans flick, I think it was "People That Time Forgot" which was a sequel of another dinosaur vs. human movie. I was scanning the channels one night, it was on, and the female lead, I'm thinking Sarah Douglas (?) was getting on the nerves of the main dude and says to him, "Everyone has their breaking point. With me, its spiders. With you, its me."

I thought Hey, that's in "Tugs!"
The movie was from the 70's.

Like any good poet, Gord knows good stuff when he sees it.

Talking Heads – Warning Sign Lyrics 17 years ago
Just a wonderfully bizarre and scary song. I like the warble effect they put on DB's mic.

Talking Heads – Drugs Lyrics 17 years ago
Okay, I don't do drugs, never have... but this song pretty much fits my imagination of what it must be like....under the best circumstances. It's enough for me.

Talking Heads – Artists Only Lyrics 17 years ago
Hey SpooktheHerd,
I was around then. Saw them in Austin in the late 70's, "Psycho Killer" was already out and I think "Warning Sign" was too. We caught them at the Armadillo. Anyway, I came away almost feeling scared....like, geez, they let this guy out? He was definately a different sort of dude. Not really spastic but moved his neck out really far and turned his head in this weird, David Lynch-esque kinda way. He was certainly a visual as well as vocal performer.

Kate Bush – Love and Anger Lyrics 17 years ago
but then, you know that...
Somebody need to let the site know when they screw up lyrics.
Sometimes its like my wife was writing them. She's the worst at Lyrigurgitation I know. She thought Bryan Ferry was singing about "safety valves" instead of "Slave to Love."

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Voodoo Child (Slight Return) Lyrics 17 years ago
okay, can somebody explain this to me (like I'm two years old) what in the heck does the "Slight return" refer to?
I've been listening to Jimi for nearly over 35 years now and I've never figured out what a "slight" return was.
