Three Days Grace – (I Hate) Everything About You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is about how opposites attract, in my opinion. Yes, I did read the quote off their webpage, but I still think that it's about people who are complete opposites but they see through the shallow stuff (most of the time) and they still love each other even though they wish the other person was more like them. |
Guster – The Beginning of the End Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Does anyone else see the ties to the novel "1984"? I was up at three in the morning one night over Christmas break working on a project on "1984" and I was listening to my iPod. This song came on and I found myself singing along with it. Then, I realized what the words were and I replayed the song about three times. I tried to come up with a soundtrack to play in the background when we played the boardgame (my project) but I couldn't find enough songs that fit the book. Anyone who has read the book should know what I'm talking about. Yes, Big Brother is mentioned but there are other things in it. "Trying not to say the things we mean" In "1984" the civilians could not say what they truly felt because of the Thought Police and then they would be tortured. "Our big brother tells us That it's something in our genes" In the book, the main character is told that he is crazy and that is the only reason why he won't obey Big Brother. But he is told that he will be cured so that he follows Big Brother. "I'm the judge and jury I'm the lion and the lamb" Big Brother is the ultimate dictator. He is the judge and jury and the lion and lamb. "We're unrecognizable We're sunken submarines Trying to escape before we're seen You're gonna miss us when we're gone" The civilians in "1984" are all dressed exactly alike. They have to dress this way. Also, they have to on the lookout for the Thought Police. They have to ESCAPE from the Thought Police before they figure out the thoughts in their civilians heads. Eh, may be a stretch, but I think it its pretty well. |
Jason Aldean – I Believe In Ghosts Lyrics | 16 years ago |
no one has commented yet? craziness! I love this song! Anyway, the song is obviously about a past relationship that is 'haunting' the person. He can't get his mind off of the girl that left. |
Barenaked Ladies – These Apples Lyrics | 16 years ago |
dontlabelme, if you own the Stunt cd you should look at Ed's thank you's. He never writes Thanks, it's always Thanx. |

Barenaked Ladies – Vanishing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love Kevin's voice. He's my favortie singer ever. Not to mention a fantastic song writer. I think that the man is a guy that does well with women (he'll pull your heart strings). And he fell for this girl. Now here's where I'm torn. It can either be that she doesn't feel the same way or that she is just distant. You know, she loves him but she's not trying hard enough to make the relationship work out, leaving him hanging (he's got your card but you had to fly home). So the guy never gives up and wants to keep it going. But she just keep 'vanishing'. And he keeps hoping and wishing for her to come back. Or it could be that they broke up and he's not over her and she over him...I love songs with more than one meaning...Great job on the writing Kevin... |
Barenaked Ladies – Spider in My Room Lyrics | 17 years ago |
While this might not be the song that shoves the meaning in your face, it doens't mean it's simply about spiders! The spider symbolizes something, probably something to Jim. And Sanjuro, you're right about everything you wrote. While it could be Jim just remembering things, it most likely has a deeper meaning, as all BNL songs do. I really can't think of a BNL song that doesn't have a deeper meaning. And if Jim left the writing to Ed and Steve, we would not have the same Grade 9, Peterborough and the Kawarthas, the same I Love You, or the same Everything Had Changed. And if the writing was simply up to Ed and Steve, we would never have Hidden Sun, Another Spin, Serendipity, Vanishing, Adrift, Why Say Anything Nice, or Sound of Your Voice. All of BNL are talented song writers. While Ed and Steve may be dominant in this catagory, it does not mean that Kevin, Jim, or Tyler (co-wrote Why Say Anything Nice) are any less talented. I, for one, LOVE LOVE LOVE Kevin Hearn and anything he writes, BNL related or not. Tyler branched out and helped write an incredible song on thier new cd. Jim helps write tons of the music for the songs. As said before, Ed and Steve are dominant and can write faster than Jim or Tyler, the quality is still the same. Now before people go off at me for hating Ed or Steve, I DON'T. Ed and Steve are incredibly talented and I love their voices/songs. I just hate it when people make them out to be the greatest in the band. Jim, Kevin, Tyler, and (used to be) Andy are/were just as important to the band. All I'm asking, is that people give Jim some credit for this song. He wrote it when the band was going through a hard period making Born On A Pirate Ship. Everyone was tense when they were making that CD. |

Barenaked Ladies – Why Say Anything Nice? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
can't believe no one has commented on this song yet...and tyler stewart co-wrote it! How long has it been since he co-wrote something? anyway, this song is amazing!! A play off of the saying one teaches to litte kids "If you can't say nothing nice, don't say nothing at all" he he maked me think the Bambi movie...you know, Thumper says that...okay i'll shut up about that now... All the sayings about if BLANK hadn't happened I'd BLANK right now is playing off the saying again! Does anyone else see that? |
Barenaked Ladies – Serendipity Lyrics | 17 years ago |
no one likes this song?? crazy people, Kevin Hearn is one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever... anyway, this song is about a summer romance that didn't really work out. The summer romance involves the singer and a girl who works at the dairy queen. Kevin Hearn uses clever puns based off this fact. i.e. "now there's a blizzard inbetween" blizzard meaning coldness felt toward each other and the blizzard treat you can buy at dairy queen. According to dictionary.com serendipity means "an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident" or "good fortune; luck". since the summer romance didn't work out and neither of them were too upset about that, it was serendipity, good for both of them ("good for you, good for me") Kevin Hearn is an amazing song writer and singer and I have no clue why Barenaked Ladies don't let him or Jim Creegen sing more. Don't get me wrong, I love Ed Robertson and Steven Page too, it's just I've fallen madly in love with Kevin and Jim's voices. |

Barenaked Ladies – Helicopters Lyrics | 17 years ago |
yeah, uh, kayla's right. why don't you read BNL's AUTHORIZED biography? It talks about tons of their songs, including this one. |
Barenaked Ladies – Hidden Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Kevin said that he wrote this in the hospital when he was reading music magazones and he saw who the kids 'heroes' were nowadays and he was looking around the hospital thinking "these doctors, these nurses, these are the real heroes" and "if any of those so-called heroes got sick they would need those (nurses, doctors) heroes to help them out." yeah the quotes aren't exact, they're just summed up by the way, all this info came from "Barenaked Ladies: Public Stunts, Private Stories" by Paul Myers |
Barenaked Ladies – Another Spin Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about the singer sending his ex a card. He's not sure where to send it so he calls her parents, who tell him that she's spying for the ARMY. The way I interpret it it sounds like that's a lie. Om My Gosh! Who loves Kevin's voice on this song? He sounds amazing!!!! I ADORE his voice on everything he doesn but this has got to be one of his best songs. Not to mention he wrote it all by his lonesome... |
Barenaked Ladies – Testing 1,2,3 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
oops sorry, forgot to put what the meaning of the whole song is, at least, in my opinion. I think it's about people not accepting you as you are. You know, how people change to be accepted ("If I acted less like me, would I be in the clear?") Maybe more like the singer changed (hence the reference to 'One Week") and people aren't really accepting him and sometimes he just wishes that he go back to when he was accepted but he doesn't really want to because he likes who he is even though no one else does...Does that make sense? |
Barenaked Ladies – Testing 1,2,3 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
That line about the fast rhymes is about Ed. Go on YouTube and watch the video for the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA9dkF8Sftw Pause it at around 1:33 and if you look closely, you can tell it says Chickety China The Chinese Chicken and continues with One Week. Quite cool really... |

Smash Mouth – All Star Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's a cool place and they say it gets colder You're bundled up now but wait 'til you get older But the meteor men beg to differ Judging by the hole in the satellite picture The ice we skate is getting pretty thin The waters getting warm so you might as well swim My world's on fire how about yours that part of the song reminds me of global wamring...i know the song isnt about it but it does seem to fit the bill... |
John Berry – He Makes Me Want Her Again Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Barenaked Ladies – The Old Apartment Lyrics | 17 years ago |
good idea El Nino but if you read what Ed has to say this song in the greatest hits cd, it says that the guy still has the same girl and they are just going back to remember things...but what you said is what i thought at first until Ed corrected me.... |
Barenaked Ladies – Adrift Lyrics | 17 years ago |
yes i agree, wonderful way to start the album! this is an amazing song and im wondering why more people havent commented on it! this is a sone about losing his love and feeling out of sorts about it. i let my friends listen to it and she loved it. it was the first BNL song she had ever heard... anyway, great song!! |
Barenaked Ladies – Go Home Lyrics | 17 years ago |
