ok wow guys lets stay on topic. i love this song. its pretty but sad. i dont know if i agree with everybody that "loaded" refers to drunk, high, etc. to me, this song is more about somebody shy and isolationist who's in this relationship that just doesnt seem right. but they're just now realizing it. they feel confused and numb. for some reason i keep toying with a picture in my mind about sitting in a room alone ("just the room, the sun, and the sky", sun and sky both being vast, vague images, paralleling tone of confusion) contemplating suicide. everybody seems so passionate and focused in life and they're just kind of numb. im probably waaaay off base, but since i can toootally relate to that, thats what the song makes me think of.

The Academy Is... – Slow Down Lyrics

Being a stout classic rock fanatic, I believe there is no good music being produced in the world today. This song proves me otherwise. I think the lyrics are about personifying America's standards for this generation in the form of a woman, and then dumping her sorry ass. The line "Hollywood hills and suburban thrills" refers to the life of glamour and the social ambitions that society tells you that you need. "I'm not like them, I won't buy in" means that he's rejecting these standards. The "you kiss me like an overdramatic actor, starving for work with one last shot to make it happen" signifies what relationships have become: a dramatic way to gain social status, even with total disregard for the other person. My favorite line is "I'm not impressed, and I'm definitely not excited" Its like a big symbolic middle finger right in your face. The music itself is also good. The chord changes are great and the vocals are solid. The only thing its missing in my opinion is a really good guitar solo. And if somebody would please explain the Ramones reference, I would love to know. Being that the Ramones were the parents of punk rock, which is very antiestablishment in its message, it would be interesting to see how it directly relates to this song, which has a similar message.

A men, ledhead. I especially like the Katrina thing. very insightful. Obviously, they could have never known about a hurricane that would take place decades after this song was produced, and nearly seventy after it was written. but the beauty of a song is that it doesnt always have to mean the same thing.

yo pheonix, sheryl crowe sucks! i hate that girly crap. i am a girl and i hate that girly crap. Guns did it metal, the way it should be done. I love this song. its my theme song. its sweet and innocent with an attitude, like me. she makes him feel like a kid again, feel safe and free and careless. thats what great relationships are all about, that basic instinct that you love somebody with all your heart and soul like children have. They know without a doubt that they love you. Where do we go from here means to me that ok, you have that instinct of love. Now how do we turn it into something that will last forever. its a beautiful thing. and the guitar makes me breathe a sigh of relief everytime i hear it. like ok everythings gonna be fine.

not to burst the bubble of anybody examining the deep introspective meanings of this song, but she fucking hates me is pretty much straight forward. no beating around the bush with these guys is there? Even if youre a girl this song applies. girls at my age are catty and its great to just shrug it off and go, she fucking hates me. good thing i dont fucking care. haha. definitely an awesome hs anthem.
