Tristania – Angellore Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love how they set the stage for this song with the child-like laughter at the beginning and then an eagle's cry (did you all catch that) which tells you that the angel is in the sky. BTW, I really like the male vocals at the beginning...kinda reminds me of the band Nosferatu. Is that his real voice or are they using an effect on it? It is very calming. |
Theatre of Tragedy – The Masquerader and Phoenix Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I can't help but to think of Phantom of the Opera when I hear this (ie. Erik watching Christine sing). It does say that the one that spied was "mummered" or masked. However, it sounds like he kills her in the end and her screams are drowned out by the music... |
Theatre of Tragedy – Fair And Guiling Copesmate Death Lyrics | 17 years ago |
BTW - the quote "Only one candle left to burn, before the darkness comes" is by Vincent Price in the movie Last Man on Earth. |
Within Temptation – Dark Wings Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I was actually really dissapointed with this album, I was looking for a band like Nightwish, but this song was the only really good song on it and it is almost too "pop" for me. However, I love the words, very light against dark. Very vivid mind pictures when I listen to this song. |
Theatre of Tragedy – Fair And Guiling Copesmate Death Lyrics | 17 years ago |
You really should get a dictionary and do your own work - it is half the fun, HOWEVER...it is about a vampire and his prey. The first three lines are about the sun setting into darkness and the moon rising (welkin=sky). The next lines are about crawling out of the casket (Anon=at once). Bottom sand...is just talking about how late it is. Pine, another word for coffin. Then, he says he will be a "pest" to those with blood. Then he says you will honor him or he will tear the heart from your chest. The next couple lines are talking about how he will appear to him. Then he says to bear the pain with grace, and quench my thirst. Dirge= funeral song. Then he is talking about his prey's death and descent to hell. The rest is him just talking about death and saying that it is Satan that told him to do this. |
Coheed and Cambria – The Willing Well III: Apollo II: The Telling Truth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think what makes this albun so incredibly intelligent is the cross-referencing between "god" and the "writer" being the same person. It shows how when you stand inside a situation (ie like Claudio in the story) you only see what is happening to you, you don't understand WHY it is happening...But once you step back, you see that it is a story within a story..and God isn't really "allpowerfull or all-good" he is just the force that pushes the situation along... I like that Claudio (the character) finally realizes that and rebels against "gods" will. |
Coheed and Cambria – The Willing Well II: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I was thinking that maybe the "runs faster than you eat" part was talking about Flames eating the story - like the writer tried to burn the story so far because he was so disgusted. It makes sense if you read the part about "picture this and burn it to flake, at home in the fireplace, with the flick of the flame." Then he says this is my secret, but I should tell it...but then he says "this won't leave me". Like he HAS to tell it. |
Tristania – A Sequel Of Decay Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Can anyone figure out the latin lyrics for this song? |
Tristania – Wormwood Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The latin is this: In Taberna quando sumus non curamus quid sit humus hoc est opus ut queratur "When we are in the tavern we do not care about what earth is (i.e. what we are made of) this is the work that we complain about" |
Tristania – Crushed Dreams Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Here is a different translation: Dead in the whole soul Beautiful destroyer flies Black Fortune of help Played with by the winds I am carried along |
Tristania – Heretique Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The part in German is: “Es gibt keinen Gott, Es gibt kein Leben. Sie werden alle sterben, Ohne die Erlösung.” Translated its the following: “There is no God, There is no Life They’ll all die, Without Salvation.” |
Tristania – Of Ruins And A Red Nightfall Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Between the 3rd & 4th Chorus the voice in death vocals says “Summon the starlight gloss in which thou rage...” It’s backmasked... |
Tristania – Angina Lyrics | 17 years ago |
While I'm at it, here are the latin lyrics: • Ut te postremo Donare Munere Mortis "to present you with the last guerdon (reward) of death" Does anyone else here that he says clearly after the screaming sounds at the very beginning the phrase "that sounds good" ?? |
Tristania – Tender Trip On Earth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I've been trying to figure out waht the lyrics are that the growly voice sings after Vibeke's 2nd chorus. So far I have: Pain, it's gone (god?) Blood, my fear Ice Word Time Dream Tears Hopes I'm dead, Hate years Get me out of here! What does anyone else think? Obviously some lines dont make a lot of sense like this... |
Coheed and Cambria – Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the beginning is about torturing Jesse, but the part about "fix him restore him" is about Sizer, the bot that ends up helping Claudio. Claudio isn't injected with the Monstar - he has it (genetically?) from his parents. I think that during this song Claudio is still in hiding, but he "sees" what is happening to Jesse in a dream like his mother used to. The end is definetly the Monstar virus changing Claudio into the Crowing - as it leads directly into that song. Actually I think the first three songs on this album are from Jesse's point of view. Chase is Jesse's "daughter" - he created her and several other Bots... |
Coheed and Cambria – In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Will" is NOT Jesse's "son" or IRO bot, but refers to Wilhelm Ryan, the Mage who is fighting the Prise for control of the Keywork. "The Fence" or Heaven's Fence are the planets of the Sector that are powered by the Keywork. "Monstar" is the correct spelling of the virus that Coheed (and Claudio) carry that can destroy the Keyworks. Jesse is NOT evil, but he is jealous of the fact that Claudio is the Crowing and not him. He is the third of the original triumvirate of IRO bots (KBI) along with Coheed & Cambria and has been created with the sole purpose of leading the rebels to victory against Wilhelm and the Red Army who are trying to gain control of the Monstar or Sinstar viruses. I personally believe that "Blood Machine" simply is the IRO bots way of saying "heart". |
Tristania – Opus Relinque Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is my favorite song on this cd...I LOVE the fact that as you listen to it, the whole music and tune change about every 15 seconds to something completely different. Talk about never getting bored! I love the part about Sanguine Rebirth...Anyone know any other bands that are similar to this style of music? |
Nightwish – Deep Silent Complete Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is definetly about acceptance of death... I will go a step farther and say contemplation of suicide. I find it interesting to see the progression of Toumas' thoughts and mindset throughout the Nightwish albums...it is so obvious that this song leads straight into Century Child's Ocean Soul song (actually that whole album) which was all about frustration with life and desire to have it over with or find something to make it worthwhile. He says "I saved my soul..by thinking this song is a lie" in other words, I didn't commit suicide by convincing myself it really wouldn't be as great as I imagine. |
Nightwish – Crownless Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think "the Riddler" is a personification of the desire to question everything in life...just like the "Child" in Nightwish is a personification of the idea of innocence. In the song "The Riddler" Toumas talks about how the desire to question everything can lead only to madness...he says ignorance (or acceptance) is the key...also he is perhaps saying that if there were answers to everything then there would be nothing for the poet to imagine. Has no one else noticed that the quote "Crownless Again Shall Be King" is a quote from Lord of the Rings by Tolkien? I think he is making a play on the meaning of that...he also makes reference to several other books "Iron, Sword in stone, etc..." |
Tristania – Aphelion Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Aphelion is the point of a planet's rotation FARTHEST from the sun. |
Tristania – Angina Lyrics | 17 years ago |
PS: Make sure to keep Wikipedia close-by when listening to Tristania or Sirenia or Therion :D |
Tristania – Angina Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm not sure, but I get the feeling of werewolves or vamps from this song...(luminous eyes, etc.) There are SOOO many references to night vs. day in this song...especially when he says daylight declines his strength! The latin word Angina is a medical term for "restriction". Elysium is a diffent spelling of Elysian as in Elysian Fields - the Greek idea of Heaven or Paradise. Soooo, I think this person (or vamp or whatever) is talking about the ending of paradise and the beginning of death for whoever he is stalking "Thy Carrion Kind" |
Tristania – Beyond The Veil Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm suprised noone has mentioned all the references to Venus in this song. Considering that he says "Evening Star" I think he is making a play on words between the planet venus and the Roman goddess. Venus was the Roman equivelent of the greek Aphrodite (the goddess of love and longing) Venus the planet is the brightest "star" in the morning or evening. Where is talking about "runs forever among thy halls" I think he is talking about the rotation of the planets. Same with "star of riddance". I love the part about the wizard... I think he is talking about suicide "vein of obscurity" and "dagger that cuts" |
Sirenia – Lithium And A Lover Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yes, exactly, like the boredom of life is way to much to handle, so either drug yourself or find someone who understands your pain...I don't find that silly at all...been trying for 26 years to make reality go away... or find someone to share life with. |
Sirenia – A Shadow Of Your Own Self Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it is about a guy who leaves his girlfriend (or wife) because he thinks it is the "right thing to do" after trying to "fix" the relationship even though it ends up hurting her and him both...* tried to mend...* He tries to get with another girl *another dark desire* but dreams of his true love. Then she says...would you end this line (life) with me? Would you waste what we were...almost as if she is saying "would you commit suicide with me... |
Sirenia – Meridian Lyrics | 17 years ago |
What kind of a review is that?!?! if you can't wrap your mind around poetic artistry then go listen to Britney Spears or something obviously more your speed! This song is easily the best on the album! Part of the attraction of "typical gothic lyrics" is that the listener can put their own interpretation on the music instead of being forced to the writer's. I personally like to think this is a pure vamp song...eternal darkness, eternal heresy...and of course the whole stalking thing. But the writer was probably (in accordance with the rest of the cd) talking about despair stalking his mind... |
Vanden Plas – Fireroses Dance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is my second favorite song (after Silently) and the creepiest on the album. Any ideas what 0 (or X) is talking about here? |
Vanden Plas – Silently Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Does X really not make appearance, or isn't he the one who does all the narrating, and where 0 appears to be talking - isn't it actually X reading what 0 has written? |
Nightwish – Feel For You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Just a side note to the necro thing - don't forget that this song comes after Slaying the Dreamer, which has definite Vamp overtones - listen to it again with that image in mind. |
Nightwish – Dead To The World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Very cool, Satakiel! I also LOVE this song - it is my all-time favorite of Nightwish and I totally agree with your take on all of that. Throughout the Century Child album, the "child" is innocence personified. The only part I disagree with is that Toumas has a low opinion of himself because he refers to himself as the beast or the wolf. I think that he just feels that he is different than what "civilization" expects... |
Nightwish – The Phantom Of The Opera Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Erikskitty - you're TOTALLY right (even though I'm not a teenager but 26) and I feel the same way. The directors of that movie deserve to be SHOT for doing such injustice to such a beautiful story. However, I saw the actual broadway and whispered "This is for you, Erik" through all the applause at the end :) As for the song - I like Tarja's voice better than Sarah Brightman - (for all you people that seem to think that movie is the basis of this song - you all need to READ the original "Phantom" by Gaston Leroux!!!!) But nobody NOBODY can top Michael Crawford as the Phantom. |
Nightwish – Ghost Love Score Lyrics | 17 years ago |
WOW! After reading all the posts on this song, I went back and listened to it again and WOW! HOW DID I MISS THIS SONG??? It is easily the most epic of all of Nightwish and gives me shivers down my spine when I listen to that last chorus echo. The BEST on the Once album, which has dissappointed me until this song... |
Nightwish – Dead Gardens Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Pretty cool that even when Toumas feels like he is not being creative, such beauty can come out. I like the words to this song, but am not wild about the music. Refering to the first couple posts - you guys need to remember that it is NOT Tarja who is feeling these emotions, it is Toumas, she is just the voice!!! |
Nightwish – The Carpenter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
What does "to the chirping of birds" and "the one they lick" mean to anyone??? Totally confused.... |
Nightwish – Astral Romance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
LOVE Toumas' voice. Really really wish that he had sung Century Child. It seems like it looses so much meaning with Tarja. I mean, I like her voice, but the words are from Toumas' soul and you can really tell that they don't mean much to Tarja... |
Nightwish – White Night Fantasy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is all about finding peace in nature...if you are ever stressed out, try taking a walk in the woods on a winter's night and you will see exactly what the song means! |
Nightwish – Sleepwalker Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Actually, there are a TON of references to the musical "Phantom of the Opera" in this song. "Silently the senses abandon all defenses" is a direct quote from the song "Music of the Night" from that musical. Unending Masquerade is a play on another song from the story...The feeling is that Christine is singing the words "I dare to enter your ecstasy" and the Phantom replies "In your dreams you're mine..." just like in the Song "Phantom of the Opera/Through the Mirror" |
Nightwish – Walking in the Air (Howard Blake cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song and "Over the Hills" are the only two Nightwish songs I don't like. I think because they lack the depth of emotion and feeling. There are no layers of meaning to these songs- what you hear is what you get. GIVE ME BACK MY OCEAN SOUL!! |
Nightwish – Nemo Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with Fitzy-Fitz. Although I absolutely LOVE all Nightwish, I feel that "Once" was a very commercialized album compared to their other stuff. (Not that that is necisarily a bad thing as it opened up the genre to people who otherwise might not have heard of it.) But their older stuff is much deeper and more "layered". It is a shame Toumas felt so lonely when there are so many of us out there who compare ourselves with him... |
Nightwish – Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean (feat. Tapio Wilska) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the last lines are the fulfillment of the prophecy that they owl is saying. Considering how the Toumas feels about the Ocean, I almost get the feeling this song is about a flood being the final savior of the earth. Like man needs to be washed off of it and it needs to be given back to the creatures. Like almost all Nightwish songs, there are layers upon layers, so while one layer is speaking of a "love?" relationship, I believe that the true idea is the birth of one who will cleanse the earth. |
Nightwish – Gethsemane Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I TOTALLY agree biso, those are the most powerful lines in any Nightwish song!!!! Isn't love just like that, when you don't have a partner, you would do anything to have someone who understands you, who will be there for you. This message runs throughout all the Nightwish albums. |
Nightwish – Beauty And The Beast Lyrics | 17 years ago |
By the way, although Toumas' voice is isn't the greatest, I wish he had sung the songs on Century Child instead because they meant so much more to him...I always picture him as the Ocean Soul singing them... |
Nightwish – Beauty And The Beast Lyrics | 17 years ago |
On the Nightwish website, Toumas specifically states that he loved the movie Beauty and the Beast but HATED the way they made the prince at the end (I agree). I think he left the Beast as a beast in the song for this reason. I LOVE the line, "Forever shall the wolf..." like love is great, but not really in the beast's nature - maybe the chase is more interesting. I think that is kinda in revenge for her saying she had no room in her heart for him. |
Nightwish – Tutankhamen Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Actually, although the tv series didn't come out until 1997, the original "Stargate" movie was released in 1994, so I do believe that is what the reference is to. I can't imagine what the line "Take me with you through the stargate" would mean without that context. Especially since the goal of the G'ould race was to "breed to fill all the earth". However, there is no character in stargate called Tutankhamen. Thanks for the info on Carter, though, that is very cool, I didn't know that...:) |
Nightwish – Ocean Soul Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with half xnightxrainx, Ocean Soul is definetly someone who is "different" from others - and lonely. I think however, that the idea is since he can't connect with other people, he is going to find something that actually does understand him - the ocean (the mermaid or merman idea is actually kinda cool in an emotional sense. Tell me if you haven't felt exactly this way. Anyone who listens to Nightwish is automatically not as shallow as typical society is or you would be listening to Britney Spears instead! Toumas himself says on his website journal that he uses the wolf theme in his songs becuase he feels like a lycanthrope. Like he pretends to be human but doesn't really fit in because he doesn't think the same way...I feel like this all the time. Like you are born in the wrong era or body... I think that is exactly what he means by "Ocean Soul". Wish I could meet him or others that feel this way.... |
Nightwish – Bless The Child Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think "the child" in this song is a personification of innocence - everything it means to be a child. The person is dying (cup that is counting my time) and is going back over his life to try and remember that innocence and he encourages the listener to join him in that recollection (Come bless the child one more time...) I get the feeling that this entire album is actually a concept album - every song telling part of the story of this "Ocean Soul". Obviously "Phantom of the Opera" doesn't fit, but I wish that "Dead Boy's Poem" was on this as it is obviously part of the concept. It almost seems to be vampiric in meaning. "Without innocence the cross is only iron" meaning holding a cross to evil or a vamp would do no good without belief to back it..."Slaying the dreamer" obviously has vampiric overtones.... |
