Pearl Jam – Porch Lyrics 14 years ago
What about the first verse being from the prospective of the fetus and the second verse from the perspective of the mother?

When babies are born, they have spent months listening to their parents' voices and learning them. From his or her perspective, allowing abortion results in a minefield that has to be navigated prior to birth. He/she asks? is this the way it's going to end? by your hands? Would you hit me if I was born and your child standing in front of you?

The second verse shares the mother's perspective...look this baby is going to be a huge burden and I am not in a financial position to go through with this pregnancy. Will somebody please be there to help me go through this decision/abortion. At the end, I'm not sure if she goes through with it or not "I would not ever hold you, etc..." may be she is thinking that is why she hasn't had the abortion or maybe it is her thinking about the results of choosing to abort the pregnancy.

In either case, the band values the woman's autonomy in grappling with that difficult decision and to be allowed to come to her own decision.

Tom Petty – American Girl Lyrics 16 years ago
How about...this is a song about a typical American girl from Anywhere, America, who grows up without a consistent, loving father-figure, either due to divorce, abandonment, death, whatever. After being let down by the absence of a father, she goes off into the world to chase her dreams but it all feels so empty because she is still longing for the love she never had.

Switchfoot – Twenty-Four Lyrics 17 years ago
I am not sure if this has been said yet, but the first thing I thought of when I heard the lines "I am the second man now" was that he feels that now he can live with Christ living through him. Adam is the first man in the Bible and I think Jesus is often referred to as the "second man". So maybe his realizations in the song are helping him to move from an earthly/flesh-driven life (Adam) to a more Spirit-filled life (like Christ).

Third Day – Eagles Lyrics 17 years ago
Jesus can release me from the grasps of the burdens of this world.
Very hopeful song, yet frustrating in that the soaring on the wings of eagles is all in the future tense...the singer is still stuck in the muck of life on Earth.
