I get this song because it's exactly how I am with relationships. I finally don't mind that I never feel the same about people in relationships as they do about me, and in the end I get lonely and give in and need some lovin', we all do this, or will at some time, I assure you. After everything is done, we try to get up, but we've been lying there so long, and alas, something has fallen asleep. Intoxicated too sometimes, somehow when this happens, making it hard as well. And just this side of love, on the other side of caring and wanting and needing each other, and on the side of using each other, like machines, so some level doesn't get too low, so we recharge each other's spark every now and then, we decide to end it. Always this way. Always. In some way or another. I needed to share this. |

I always thought it was about abuse. Stranger in the sky, the victim was eventually beat to the point of death and the abuser never knew them inside and all they felt, "tell me i'm not spending too much time on happy endings and my life does not rely on how much love you might be lending me", hence, stranger in the sky. |

A lot of it makes me think it's about his dad and how he would never be around at Christmas time and such, but the grabbing by the wrist rather than kissing makes me think it's about a significant other. It could change meaning halfway through though, you never know. |

I always thought of "between the bars" in reference to being in jail, and she comes to visit him. He was there because of domestic violence, and they both have some problems with alcoholism that they need to straighten out and I forgot where I was going with this. Regardless, one of my favorite songs. |
