Sneaker Pimps – Low Place Like Home Lyrics | 7 months ago |
I feel like it is a play on words - "low place like home" sounds very similar to "no place like home". Yet the lyrics imply a total opposite of warmth home can give. It seems like the narrator wants to say that one won't find/grow at home because it is the place he feels the worst. |
Muse – Endlessly Lyrics | 1 year ago |
I always heard the line "But I won't give you up" as "but I won't give you love" and I thought it was some kind of twisted feeling where the person wants to have some kind of revenge - love quietly but never actually show it to the person. When the moment would come he/she would not "give" love. This would relate to the first lines where he/she says that this will remain unknown to the person in question. |
The Turtles – Happy Together Lyrics | 5 years ago |
it seems like it's the man's first love. He is wearing the pink glasses, all seems perfect and forever. And towards the end of the song, the glasses start to drop and he sees the reality - that they share little in common, and he can only resort to the question of weather, like towards a stranger. |
Emiliana Torrini – Nothing Brings Me Down Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[Adscititious:17881] Agreed! And also, I always thought she sang "full of wine and steady", what just emphasizes the meaning - even though she should be unsteady/drunk/miserable even wine cannot sway her mood. |
The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I've always thought the song starts with "About a lucky man who made the GRAVE" which made the first verse be about suicide. The narrator reads the news about a man who had shot himself in a car while perhaps he hadn't noticed that his terrible situation had changed (to what the traffic light might allude to) and thus the situation is ironic/funny – the man shot himself too early to realize things have resolved already. The shot makes his face unrecognizable and so people stand and stare out of shock, wondering if he is ‘famous’. The narrator continues to tell about a movie that he saw and while people couldn’t bear to watch it, his interest was deeper and he continued till the end. This sets him apart from “crowd of people” once again. The line “I’d love to turn you on”, is what lies underneath all this distancing from the “crowd”, the man is in love and all the news/books/movies are just a façade of interests beneath which are the thoughts about the girl he wants. The song switches to another narrator who is more upbeat and whose life is more structured and a little more stressful who does not have time to think about either a woman he might love or the news. His life revolves around the mundane activities of life. The song switches back to the first narrator where he continues to leaf through the newspaper where he notices a peculiar story that he finds funny. But once again, beneath it all are the thoughts about the girl. |
Public Image Ltd – One Drop Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Lately I’ve been thinking that this song relates to immigration. The song starts with a person introducing himself and remarking that he too is a human but his culture may seem savage/strange to others (thus reference to “vulture”). He tells the story that he comes from a war zone, “from chaos”, and that the society cannot fully grasp his situation “cannot explain us”. He then goes on saying that only the most “focused of the hopeless” get this chance to emigrate. The chorus is about the difference in population sizes and the way that people want immigrants to act. A handful of immigrants is only a “drop in the ocean” (in the population). And they are supposed to be quiet and respectful, “causing no commotion”, they are not supposed to express their needs or grievances “no emotion” and should fully integrate “follow the motion”. Towards the end, the narrator remarks that “but really we are born everywhere”, alluding to the fact that any of us could become an immigrant. And it seems that the narrator does accept the idea of integration into society as he goes on to say to others “now follow the motion”, diving deeper into the ocean. |
Balthazar – Do Not Claim Them Anymore Lyrics | 8 years ago |
This song seems to be about letting go our past love(r)s and concentrating on the one that is now. It seems to be from the perspective of one who has come to terms with the past and is ready to start something new and so reminds the other to do the same. |
Kavinsky – Nightcall Lyrics | 10 years ago |
somehow I think this song tells a story about two intimate friends, where one gets to know he has cancer. 1st verse is how one of the friends says he'll call and take the other for a ride and tell something the other doesn't want to hear (that he has cancer). And the dark he has got to know. "But have no fear" - suggests he has known about it for some time or is coming to terms with it. 2nd verse is the other friends reaction- "There something inside you, It's hard to explain" - the cancer, and its causes are hard to explain. "They're talking about you boy, But you're still the same" - people, doctors, family are now talking about the boy, because of the news, but the friends knows that "he is still the same", the same person. |
Braids – Lemonade Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I thought she sang "have you fucked all the strangers yet?" thanks for clearing that up :) |
The Stranglers – Always The Sun Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I've heard this song many times, but today as I heard it on the radio I noticed that I was singing "it's always the same" and the song suddenly got a totally different feeling. |
The Strokes – Heart In A Cage Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I always thought he sang : 'I don't feel *bitter* when I'm fucking around', it's weird knowing the real lyrics now. |
Robots in Disguise – Chains Lyrics | 12 years ago |
On a live recording of this song I (mis)heard Sue saying 'chains makes me think of twins' (see link below) and so I interpret that the lyrics are about chains of DNA. Since we are all made of DNA - we are all linked and identical twins are genetically the same (thus the line 'I'm you and you're me'). Yet there is special, perhaps deeper link between them (the attitude, the words they use etc). Lovely song :) http://youtu.be/QyGfEFC9C50?t=2m21s |
Pnau – Embrace Lyrics | 13 years ago |
When listening to the song I imagine a person who has a very busy life. Things for him/her change as quickly as the traffic lights [red and green]. Always trying to do to the best of his abilities [louder, faster]. Sometimes he stops at some peaceful place [rivers] and reflects. This is where he realises that as busy as he is, he still has time for someone (and that someone is the person who saved his life that night (maybe by making realise that he's got time for love) so he pleads: 'be my embrace now'). All that it takes is to let yourself spark up about that person [light a match] and not miss a chance [slipping past..]. 'This war' makes me think it refers to a war against (or maybe for) time. |
Roisin Murphy – Royal T Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I believe this is correct: I can let you have your way... Let you have your way I can let you have your say I can hear a warning if you can avoid it I don't need to care too much Any way you play with it You can get away with it I don't wanna cry no more What I gotta take care for? And there's a truth untold I would put it all on hold Just for another hour in bed with you So I'm gonna steal your flow Baby I can't let you go Any time you say so Baby I can let you know I don't wanna hear the alarm You don't have to use your charm You don't have to break my arm Sleeping does it always I decide when I decide I am in the mood right now Baby, baby I don't wanna hear the alarm You don't have to use your charm You don't have to break my arm Sleeping does it always I decide when I decide I am in the mood right now Baby come here I don't wanna hear the alarm You don't have to use your charm You don't have to break my arm Sleeping does it always I decide when I decide I am in the mood right now Baby can we do it right now Save me from the truth or how I don't wanna hear the alarm I don't have to feel your charm You don't have to break my arm I don't have to feel your charm I don't wanna hear the alarm I don't have to feel your charm You don't have to break my arm I don't have to feel your charm I don't wanna hear the alarm This bird in the hand Is time without plans No chiming or bells No sound in the head No sense of a threat No sound of alarm I don't have to feel your charm You don't have to break my arm No I don't wanna count the calls I don't wanna love too much Could give it all away And I pray for another way I cannot describe it I don't wanna try it Cause we left it undecided Opinions divided I don't care I don't wanna live in my head like a hum baby When you force to keep me home And I can't come Maybe I can steady your flow Tell me what you know How to make a true love grow How to make a true love grow How to make a true love grow I don't wanna hear the alarm You don't have to use your charm You don't have to break my arm Sleeping does it always I decide when I decide I am in the mood right now (repeat) |
IAMX – The Great Shipwreck Of Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
exact lyrics: Play with me, You can make the love I’ll make the money. Stay with me, Shut out the world, live underneath the city. Release cold gender bombs on colonial closet, middle England Stay with me, I’ll be Peter Pan and you just be pretty. To the brave and the petrified we all fall down To the slave and the civilised we all fall down To the lovers we left behind The bad days, the good nights In the great shipwreck of life we all fall down Born we are, Between the hard black rock and the code of the immortal. Torn from cars From the flames of the brave and the blosom we can’t return to. We light up the bars of the world with the decadent essence of innocnence. Free but sharp, We can be the satellite guiding through the dark |
Foals – Electric Bloom Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think the song is about the music industry (which is like a hospital full of dying kings and captains etc). The butcher-bird metaphor represents most bands around, which are not singing but shouting, but they never hang around for long (they fly away). |
Robots in Disguise – The Tears Lyrics | 15 years ago |

IAMX – Spit It Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
becboo3 the songs sound different because the ones on myspace are from the re-recorded and remixed version of The Alternative |
Placebo – Protege Moi Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song is about drug addiction, from an addict’s perspective. I will use the translation by dutch_angel_moi to explain my point. 1st stanza is about drugs spreading amongst people and about the addicts descending in self-destruction or self-pity. 2nd stanza: is a description of the addicts, the ghost awakening could be referring to hallucinations. “the slum that we call home” – this is what their environment has become – a slum: dirty and infected. 3rd stanza: memories of the time they were clean and life seemed happier haunt him. Now drugs have taken everything from them. 4th stanza: all the dreams about future are gone as drugs posses them. The chorus: “Protect me from what I want, Protect me” is basically a plea. The person wants to be stopped and thus be protected from drugs he wants. That’s how I interpret the song. |
Björk – Declare Independence Lyrics | 16 years ago |
wow I discovered this song when I saw a video where she used the reacTable (that instrument just amazed me!). I really like the lyrics as they can be interpreted both "politically" and personally. |
IAMX – Lolita Lyrics | 17 years ago |
after intensive searching I found it!! :) it's actually very nice and relaxing.. but it sounds to me more like a Sneaker Pimps' song ... anyways the most important thing is that it has the amazing Chris Corner's voice! |
Mumm-ra – She's Got You High Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the third verse is wrong here I hear (from the video): She's got you high and you don't even know yet She's got you high and you don't even know yet The sun's in the sky, it makes the happy endings You can't deny, you want the happy ending overall the song sounds so positive, makes my mood go up :) I guess it's basically about falling in love and love in general?! |
IAMX – Lolita Lyrics | 17 years ago |
is this really iamx's song? i've never heard about it and i can't find anything either... where can you find it? |
IAMX – Heatwave Lyrics | 17 years ago |
by the way if you listen very carefully, after "in my nightmares" you can hear him sing - "she's such a pussy" this supports even more genevieve313 explanation of the song... |
Chris Corner – Girl Talk Lyrics | 17 years ago |
btw this is sung by sue denim the part where she goes "you pull my strings" is very similar to the lines from IAMX's "President". I wonder if this is somehow connected... |
Brainstorm – Weekends Are Not My Happy Days Lyrics | 17 years ago |
