Brand New – Handcuffs Lyrics 17 years ago
It was written by a member of Brand New. Just not Jesse. Their guitarist Vincent Accardi wrote it. (That's what it says on the sleeve anyway.)

Straylight Run – Sympathy For The Martyr Lyrics 17 years ago
The word martyr doesn't solely relate to those who die for their beliefs, you know. Other definitions include: someone who makes sacrafices (generally for a cause) or someone who suffers frequent/constant pain OR someone who seeks attention. I think, in this song, the latter is the relavant definition.

Basically, as far as I can tell, this song is about someone who seeks attention through telling people their sob stories instead of actually solving their problems. The lyrics are ridiculing the person because they're just playing the martyr, trying to illicit sympathy.

I think everyone's martyred themselves at some point in their lives, playing the victim even when they know they aren't entirely blameless and so on.

Panic! at the Disco – But It's Better If You Do Lyrics 17 years ago
My interpretation of this song is that the he's lying to someone he wants to impress (see the line about 'forgetting YOU in a cabaret') about having gone to a strip joint whilst thinking to himself that he wouldn't 'be caught dead in this place' he's making up.
And the idea of "praying for love and paying in naivety" is like wanting to impress the person/people he's telling all this bullshit to and the pay out he's getting is their naive love/friendship/respect or possibly even he's paying for it by having to act like the naive kind of person who thinks going to a strip club is cool.
This may have already been said but I thought I'd give my two cents.

And, ssh, I know that 'implications' needs no apostrophe.

Am I the only one who thinks that this song also has implication's towards corruption in the police force? Call me stupid but, cop faced with all the bad stuff in the world and all the corruption around him gives up on being the good guy, maybe?

Brand New – Sudden Death in Carolina Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song's about a bad split in a relationship. He knows it's coming, he's "already dead". But I'm guessing that maybe in the end he dumped her - given the fact that in the end she's the one whose body's been dropped in the river. Either that or when they split up everyone decided it was her fault and "hung her from the bridge" a little like they were crucifying her or whatever.

Also, I've always thought the line "What difference does this difference in age make? I know how it ends, she'll kill me quick" means that no matter how old you are or how many relationships you've been in it always ends the same way.
