Morrissey – Thats How People Grow Up Lyrics 17 years ago
I love love love the lines:
"I was driving my car,
I crashed and broke my spine,
So yes, there are things worse in life than
never being some-one's sweetie."

Can't wait to hear a studio version of this.

The Smiths – Paint a Vulgar Picture Lyrics 17 years ago
I thought he stopped talking to the NME because of their scathing review of the Madness thing, when he was bottled off stage after performing The National Front Disco while waving a Union Jack?
I could be wrong so feel free to correct me on that!

Morrissey – Hairdresser On Fire Lyrics 17 years ago
This is not my interpretation of the song, but these lyrics remind me so much of the musical Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
For one it's about a barber/hairdresser, and also in the musical there is a song and several lines referring to a 'city on fire', being London. The setting (London) of Sweeney Todd is refered to many times in Sweeney Todd, and in this song too. It just struck me as an odd coincidence.

Morrissey – Break Up The Family Lyrics 17 years ago
I read somewhere that this song was about a group of friends that are so closely knit that it is almost suffocating and no-one can ever break free and become successful outside of the clique...its a really lovely song.

The Smiths – Reel Around the Fountain Lyrics 17 years ago
Personally, I think this song is about losing your virginity to someone more experienced (but not necessarily older). By taking the narrators virginity, that person is taking a child and making them old. It seems to me that there is a kind of resentment towards that person for taking your innocence, but at the same time you want to prove yourself to them aswel "I'll take it now"?
Because the other person is more experienced, it's not such a big deal to them, hence the fact that they never said "Take me to the haven of your bed".
