CocoRosie – Grey Oceans Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It hurt me when When we fell onto each other's faces |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – Wavelengths Lyrics | 13 years ago |
this contusion-colored evening maybe you paint the silhouette of the gaunt tree line singed in '97 when wildfires threatened my development and the swallowed towns the Klan had founded the shaded sand dens were Party Caverns for them who'd come hallucinate while we slept scaring our rabbits to death in their hutches I can't remember how I used to live but they've all cased their jumps fatally I willed it to be in the hours of blankness preceding sleep oh the years we waste faking remorse every decision I have ever made bred the branching future's mute howlers with burst-vessel red eyes roaring inaudibly on the freezing morning walk to the corner grocery what hangs over big empty country reborn in negatives of photos of dusk regret so huge it's on a phantom axis receding beaches hissing hearing damage the miles-long column on cold moonlight cast across still seas when my nose begins to bleed some submitted to having their lights put out by the basement thrill killer of the neighborhood I heard being murdered is no experience ten or eleven wounds in "It's not about Satan or anything. You just die-- It's weird." |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – Definite Darkness Lyrics | 13 years ago |
actual lyrics: bring me to the world of guilt and sorrow for the races tonight where the boats go cutting through undulating mirror images of incandescent spires the roads there are parabolas with nameless water towers near the exits you could turn it all on end still wouldn't be taller than the biotic arch at the crown of creation there are people who put dirty hypodermic needles between the seat cushions in the movie theaters we all have the same dream the night that we contract it so maybe I've been sleeping less at your place since that man's last panicked screams startled us awake we're paralyzed as the cop cars arrived casting slow-spinning mobiles on your ceiling three colors we watched the frozen moon in daylight I stare past your eyes' lenses windows framing solar wind rustling ivy on painted pink buildings I've been hearing the soft step of gray-eyed governess but I know you know the physical form of the moaning alarms coming from the air force base a skinless and sinewy leviathan all terrible contraction and release debasement ringed in banner plane exhaust and scattering V's of geese |

Destroyer – Suicide Demo for Kara Walker Lyrics | 13 years ago |
http://www.artinfo.com/news/story/36747/walker-on-the-wild-side-dan-bejar-on-his-musical-collaboration-with-artist-kara-walker/ Interview on the origins of the song. Obviously don't read it if you've got your own ideas and want to keep them. |
Parenthetical Girls – I Was the Dancer Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's not necessarily a rape. If she resents the child, the conception is a "disaster" whether she consented or not. |
Lisa Germano – Geek the girl Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Encapsulates perfectly the feeling that staying quiet, acting indifferent or angry, not dancing, not giving anything away will make you come across as interesting and cool. |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – Some Trees (Merritt Moon) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Some Trees is also the title of a John Ashbery poem: http://www.barcelonareview.com/20/e_ja.htm |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – Cold Spring Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Is anything better than "I'M BEAR MOUNTAIN! I'M ENTERING ORBIT!" ?? No. |

Cymbals Eat Guitars – Like Blood Does Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"I'm visited by naked reality In the higher gloss of the cars that cut in front of me" I like to think this is about this: "It was a time in my life when I found it impossible to listen to contemporary indie rock or pop records, because I was scared shitless of failure and mediocrity, and no one giving a good god damn about the record I was making. What it really was, I guess, was pettiness and a very childish envy of others' successes." |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – Share Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"In all seriousness, the song is about withholding, not allowing yourself to experience certain things with someone because you’re afraid of creating memories that will become sources of pain when the relationship inevitably ends. There was this nature reserve near my old house in Jersey, and every weekend I’d walk the miles of trails. Some of the most peaceful moments I’ll ever know. Anyway, I began dating this girl and the song was written as I was hesitating, trying to decide just what to share with this person… thinking about how I’d feel when I walked my trails again, alone, after having walked them with her. God, I am such a sentimental hippie. The end of the song says, “this is why we need secrets”." Oh man. |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – Wind Phoenix (Proper Name) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I always think of the Fight Club thing whenever I hear this. Good call. |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – The Living North Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"A woman, walking dog, pulled in, never heard from again... ...I found a dog's leash on the shores of the Pacific, it means nothing to me" (That's what he posted on their site, although it's: "Your dog's leash on the shores of the Pacific, nothing to me!" in the actual song) I love how the first part of this, it makes you feel sad/sympathetic because you know the story, but then when he finds this dog's leash out of the blue, he doesn't care... it could be saying that we see all these remnants of really tragic stories all the time and don't know/connect them, or that when it doesn't directly affect us, we don't care anyway. |
Throwing Muses – Vicky's Box Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Home is where the heart lies. The heart lies! The heart lies! |
Fleetwood Mac – You Make Loving Fun Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Otherworldly. |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – Wavelengths Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Favourite track from my favourite album that I haven't heard. |
Wolf Parade – What Did My Lover Say? (It Always Had to Go This Way) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
That's a "Go Dan" for the epic guitar line. |
Wolf Parade – What Did My Lover Say? (It Always Had to Go This Way) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"I got a friend who's a genius Nobody listens to him I got some friends that got famous LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA" I love that bit. "Some people live like they're falling, Some people die in their sleep." And that bit. Go Dan. |
Broken Social Scene – Sweetest Kill Lyrics | 14 years ago |
There's a version on youtube with Kevin playing drums where the lyrics make more sense. It seems like for this recording he was just vaguely remembering those lyrics- most of the time a couple of the words are the same but the others just make the phrases nonsensical. Pretty awesome. |
Broken Social Scene – World Sick Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Ah ok, I am pretty sure he alternates between the two. |
Broken Social Scene – World Sick Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Is it not "My love is for my man" ? Beautiful sentiment if so. |
Why? – On Rose Walk, Insomniac Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Summer thaws a quartered pill" - related to seasonal affective disorder? Would make sense, everyone's miserable in the Winter. "My eyes hatch a still born penny" - this is all purposely ambiguous but eyes are generally a romantic thing, like people see their dreams with/in their eyes... so it could be that his dreams aren't giving him anything useful in a practical sense, like money. In general though, it's all about the atmosphere the words create. It fits in perfectly with the whole feel of the album. |
Quasi – Two by Two Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is such a beautiful song. All the Janet songs are. Stunning. |
The Fiery Furnaces – Restorative Beer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I've listened to this song so many times whilst drinking a restorative beer. Such a fantastic song. |
Volcano Choir – Island, IS Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think a lot, if not all, of the lyrics on this album are purely there for their aesthetic value. He just sang a load of sounds and then changed them into words afterwards. |
Why? – Into the Shadows of My Embrace Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Also, great job with getting all the lyrics for the new album up so quickly. Really makes the album so much better when you read along. Thanks! |
Why? – Berkeley by Hearseback Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Another song about surrendering to death. This one hits me like Light Leaves hits me, i.e. in a huge way. One of my favourites on the album, no doubt. "If I slit a purse or two then I can't curse if my cake is cooked and minor veins are mapped." "When I felt my ribs come closing slow, a row of snakes set to strangle." So great. |
Why? – Into the Shadows of My Embrace Lyrics | 14 years ago |
High school sucker girls? |
Why? – One Rose Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Oh man, the shout out to a sky for shoeing horses under makes me shiver. |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – Plainclothes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Holy balls. These guys just keep on getting better. You can tell that second album is going to be a hit. Friends fuck each other in the guest room I feel the ghost of all the parties still happening Right on this very spot that I am standing Kids are blissing in the spare room, light years away |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – And the Hazy Sea Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Alllsooo, Joseph is a huge Pavement fan and this is a typical Stephen Malkmus thing to do (see: the career/Korea thing from 'Cut Your Hair') |
Cymbals Eat Guitars – And the Hazy Sea Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The lyrics are directly from the band. |
Japandroids – Heart Sweats Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Haha that stylist line is embarrassing. |
Deerhoof – Wrong Time Capsule Lyrics | 15 years ago |
As much as "wonder under" fun is very Deerhoof, I think it's "wonderland of fun". |
Grizzly Bear – While You Wait for the Others Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I relate to this so much. For me, it describes a break-up you know has got to happen, but you don't want it to. You fool yourself into thinking you're working out what's wrong, but you know that the good times are long gone. The chorus, I guess, describes how the break-up is the right thing, the easy thing to do... In short- you can't explain what's wrong but you know it's bad, and you know there's no chance of sorting it out. |
Broken Social Scene – Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The album version, the KCRW version, the Lollapalooza version, every time I've seen it live. There's something about it that just makes my heart melt, literally. I lose control. |
Marnie Stern – Every Single Line Means Something Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Ok, yeah, definitely says that the first time. It's "that" the second time, though. |
Marnie Stern – Every Single Line Means Something Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"And then it comes to me not every single line means something" ? |
Cat Power – Song for Bobby Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is so perfect. It's how I feel about Dylan too, and the fact that it's Chan singing it only makes it that much better. The way she mimics his voice for some of the lines is just... oh boy. |
Marnie Stern – Vault Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Will this lonely life get any better? At least this song will last forever." Best way to express being a musician ever? Yeah. |
Marnie Stern – Simon Says Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is so huge. |
Marnie Stern – Logical Volume Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is my Thunder Road. This is my Marquee Moon. This is my Orthrelm in tune. This is my love for you. Shit. Television/Bruce Springsteen references. This whole album gets across that whole, "I may not be the best but I'm trying and I really want to be fucking amazing" vibe SO well. And I always feel like that when I'm writing music, so I absolutely love it. Also, she is just fucking amazing. Great songwriter. Great. |
Cat Power – Empty Shell Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I wish I could write songs like this. It's poetic but it feels so honest, like a stream of consciousness. |
Marnie Stern – Patterns of a Diamond Ceiling Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I absolutely love this. I totally surrender to it. "See how easy to dream a scheme of sounds in your head. We must dream on. We must dream on." |
Why? – Yo Yo Bye Bye Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think I remember reading somewhere that it's either his niece/nephew or cousin. |
St. Vincent – The Party Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"...sweep up" |
St. Vincent – Save Me From What I Want Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Honey, what reveals you, Is what you try and hide away" Perfect. |
St. Vincent – Just the Same But Brand New Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's "Float away, dangling" |
St. Vincent – The Party Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Pretty sure it's "Oh, we stayed much too late", "I'd pay anything"... and also "I've said much too much and they're trying to speak up"? |
