I thought the same thing! Well, really I thought "4th time around," by Dylan, but all three are almost the same. All awesome Waltzes! |

Wilco – Everlasting Everything Lyrics

The outro-solo-thing at the end of this song is so beautiful! It sounds like birds or something, and really hopeful, if a guitar solo can do that...
It sounds like they recorded it and played it back backwards on the final mix, like hendrix did on 'Castles made of Sand' |

Wilco – I'll Fight Lyrics

Does nobody see the Christ reference in here???
with the exception if I'll kill for you, this is the Crucifixion, almost verbatim. A soldier comparing himself to Christ dying for our sins.
An interesting comparison |

Ryan Adams – Voices Lyrics

So I'm thinking of two things with this, and I may try and articulate them more later, but I think of two things with this song.
1st, I always think of Elijah Wood as Frodo in the Lord Of The Rings movies, I guess because of the ring references. It seems like it could be related, but I haven't tried yet.
Secondly, I wonder if this song has any tie-in to Dear John... There's a ring in that song too, buried underground, as well as a window and door, and disrepair perhaps....
That may be a stretch, but I haven't tried to really link them... just an idea |

Josh Ritter – Empty Hearts Lyrics

I like these lines
"you see all these empties that I'm holding
they're too much for a man
empty arms, empty hands"
I think of empty bottles and cans (and just clap your hands! haha)
I like it though, he writes very manly songs. I think this part kind of means that a man needs something to do, but I guess also someone to hold.
I love this song, this whole album really! |

This may be my favorite Wilco song, I don't know why either. I love so many other songs, and there are many that say much more, but this is so good, and fun to sing along with |

Wilco – War On War Lyrics
|
So I kind of put this together today; I think the title 'War on War' reflects the contradiction of life, or truly living. I think that a war on war is oxymoron-esque, as is the will to die, in order to be/feel alive. I read a book recently with this quote in it, and I think it fits.
"Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of a readiness to die. 'He that will lose his life, the same shall save it,' is not a piece of mysticism for saints and heroes. It is a piece of everyday advice for sailors or mountaineers. It might be printed in an Alpine guide or a drill book. This paradox is the whole principle of courage; even of quite earthly or brutal courage. A man cut off by the sea may save his life if we will risk it on the precipice. He can only get away from death by continually stepping within an inch of it. A soldier surrounded by enemies, if he is to cut his way out, needs to combine a strong desire for living with a strange carelessness about dying. He must not merely cling to life, for then he will be a coward, and will not escape. He must not merely wait for death, for then he will be a suicide, and will not escape. He must seek his life in a spirit of furious indifference to it; he must desire life like water and yet drink death like wine."
-G.K. Chesterton
I think it fits. |

Bob Dylan – Beyond Here Lies Nothin' Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
This ship theme is indeed a common one for Dylan. I think that 'his ship' may be his woman; she's ready to go, but hasn't left yet. He's telling her to stay, because 'beyond here lies nothing.'
Perhaps he's fearing that there is indeed something out there that she might want/find, but he's trying to convince her otherwise. I think his fears are correct. |

The Stooges – T.V. Eye Lyrics

Anybody heard the alternate cuts of this on the remaster album?
There's way too many of them, but one of them is really funny. They have an Emcee (Iggy I think) introduce them, and he's getting boo'ed a lot, kind of like the stooges in general.
I really would have liked to have seen them in their prime (what would have really been cool is if you could transport a crowd from a Nirvana concert back in time, and seen it with them. Oh and the Velvet Underground with a Smashing Pumpkins crowd would have been cool too!) |

Journey – Don't Stop Believin' Lyrics

Journey is Awful. This song is Awful. It is so played out, so annoying, and so stupid. These Trite lyrics! this song is for dummies! It needs to go back to the 80's and die like the rest of the 80's did. I cannot understand this whole 80's thing becoming popular again! People who liked this garbage in the 80's got beat up by metalheads and the grunge kids when that came out! |

The door screams I hate you- I see someone slamming a door and yelling "I hate you" (obvious I think, but other posts have said otherwise)
I also think of someone running in the sunlight for the line "shadows chasing bones"~ a shadow chases a person, who is made up of bones... |

Wilco – When You Wake Up Feeling Old Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
I know I can't sing
Until she brings the song to life
And I blend with kings
Id never change a thing
I think (possibly obvious) that this part is talking about music/probably almost ALL art (made by men) would probably not exist without a woman. We as men try to make beauty to present to women. Most songs, poems paintings et cetera are dedicated to/made in the likeness of a woman.
Perhaps the part about blending with kings is about his music being influenced by, and eventually joining the greats of rock/art. |

Just a thought...
although, this may be about The Bush years in general- "Squalor Victoria reminds me of "Mission Accomplished"-when Bush claimed this in like 2005 or so? |

Awful. Rubbish song. This DOES sound exactly like ignition, and that song was bad too. When are "Rappers" going to start using real instruments? Oh wait, NEVER, because they have a bunch of gullible moron fans. The ones that do, no one cares about! The Roots and Outkast have so much more talent than these in-it-for-the-money idiots. |

Akon – I Wanna Fuck You (feat. Snoop Dogg) Lyrics

Well said. Akon is horrible. I hope that other countries don't see him and think all of America listens to this garbage. "Ohh he's got good beats!" "Ooh his voice sounds neat!" Hush! He probably didn't make his own beats, also even if he did all it took is pressing some buttons on a computer. Secondly, if he's such a good singer, than why does he use voice synthesizers all the time? Real musicians don't need that crap! You don't see rock artists using that phony gadgetry! Tupac and outkast don't either...
Akon is awful |
