Hozier – Take Me to Church Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I don't think it has to do with homosexuality at all. For one thing, the opening line declares that his current lover is a woman, and it goes on to be all about her. I think it's about how one person who possesses what are deemed as flaws by the church can be a better representation of what religion is supposed to be about- peace, love, and acceptance, than the people who preach it the hardest. Then it goes on to say that, regardless of what other self-righteous people say about her, he sees her as the purest being, God-like, that he will worship. It also points out the dangers of blindly worshipping a being by paralleling it with lyrics that indicate he is blindly worshipping her. He's saying that if it's okay to blindly worship one being, whose rules are clearly flawed and unfair, because you see them as worthy of that worship, he can worship her for having flaws as well, is he sees her in that same way. |
My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Obviously this is about how the memory of dead loved ones carries on with you even though the person is gone, but I think it goes a little further than that. Some of the lyrics make me think it's also saying that everything the person tried to do in terms of changing the world and making it a better place, and even though the world will ultimately kill you before you get the chance to do that, what you started will continue on with future generations, and you will be able to have your effect on the world through them, even though you will be gone. Ultimately the human spirit is stronger than anything society of the laws of nature can do to try and break it. |
Rihanna – Disturbia Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I doubt this is what the writers meant, but I kind of interpret it as Hollywood's pressure on young women to look a certain way, like how that mindset is a disease, and like zombies, the belief gets spread around. Think of it in that context, and it becomes an absolutely brilliant song, imo. |
Good Charlotte – Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I hate the idea of this song. I'm the first person to crap on rich people, but I also firmly believe that money is nothing, and therefore, it does nothing to solve your problems. I'm sure they do have real problems, and I hate when people try to tell someone that they don't have problems. You have no idea what their problems are. |
Lily Allen – Him Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Do you know who Creedence Clearwater Revival is? They have so many songs that are anti-war and anti-economic inequality. That couldn't be less perfect for Bush, unless you meant it ironically. |
Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think it's just about a relationship between her and this guy, that went horribly wrong, but seemed to be incredibly important and meaningful at the time, but ultimately amounted to nothing, and will be inevitably forgotten. |
Kanye West – Monster Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"If I'm fake I don't notice cause my money ain't" It sounds like this song is generally about how fame and money can turn a good person evil. |
SafetySuit – Life In the Pain Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think the lyrics are supposed to be the subconscious thoughts of someone who is responsible for his own misfortunes. He's talking to himself, but it's not anything anyone would realize they are feeling or thinking. It just happens subconsciously. |
Billy Joel – We Didn't Start the Fire Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think it's just about how everybody always complains about the current generation, and now Billy Joel is pointing out that problems like the ones we deal with now have always existed, and will always exist. |
The 1975 – Chocolate Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think it's about how people who have questionable lifestyles, such as those of drug use or crime, don't see their actions the way everyone else does. While we see them using drugs, we would "call it a spliff", but to them, it "smells like chocolate". People never perceive their own actions to be as bad as they would perceive them to be if they saw someone else doing it, and I think that might be what this song is about. |
Billy Currington – Walk A Little Straighter Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The father is an alcoholic, but it uses the idea of walking straight to mean both literally, regarding his alcoholism, and figuratively, as in to state that he should, as a father, be walking a straight line, because his son is following him and "walking" as he does. |
Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This is my opinion. The guy is delusional, and probably cheated on her, and the girl did absolutely nothing wrong. "Now and then I think of when we were together Like when you said you felt so happy you could die Told myself that you were right for me But felt so lonely in your company But that was love and it's an ache I still remember You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness Like resignation to the end Always the end So when we found that we could not make sense Well you said that we would still be friends But I'll admit that I was glad that it was over" He was not happy with the relationship with her. He twists it to say that he felt lonely, and that being with just her is an ache and a sadness, but really it just means he wasn't happy in a monogamous relationship with her. He does want to be with her too though, but not just her. She wasn't putting up with that, so she left. "Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over But had me believing it was always something that I'd done And I don't want to live that way Reading into every word you say You said that you could let it go And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know" Like I said, he convinces himself, and her, that it's her fault that he's not satisfied being with just her. If you look at his lines, you do have to read into his version of what happened, to see what the facts actually are. I also get the impression here that the girl he either cheated on her with, or is at least interested in, is someone he used to know, based on the first and last line of this stanza. "But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened And that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger And that feels so rough You didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records And then change your number I guess that I don't need that though Now you're just somebody that I used to know" He cheated on her, or is at least interested in someone else, but he still wants her to stay, and to continue both relationships, and he doesn't like that she won't have that. Now he's trying to claim that he's really not interested in her anyway, even though he said earlier that he was addicted to her. Now he's claiming that he'll just regard her as someone of the past, but I think he'll continue to be addicted to her. As she said, he was hung up on somebody he used to know when he was with her, and now she is the somebody, so he'll still be hung up on her. |
The Beatles – Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
You were perfect until the ened. He burns the house down. |
The Beatles – Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Also, he says "she once had me", so he wanted her. |
The Beatles – Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
OMG guys, not every Beatles song is about drugs. Paul said himself it was about burning the house down. |
The Beatles – Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think he expected to do something with her, but she said "It's time for bed", so she's the one who stopped it from happening. Then when she leaves he burns the house down as revenge. |
Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's about a couple whose romance is dying, and they're trying to rekindle it. |
Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks Lyrics | 12 years ago |
My interpretation is that it's about a couple, and the woman is no longer comfortable in the relationship. She wants to move on to bigger and better things, and the man is trying to hold her to the relationship. "I don't like walking around this old and empty house So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear The stairs creak as I sleep, it's keeping me awake It's the house telling you to close your eyes" She doesn't like living in this old and empty relationship. He's trying to comfort her by saying he'll be with her, and that she has nothing to worry about. Then she goes into detail about it, saying she's not comfortable with him, and that the relationship is keeping her from sleeping, or really enjoying her life. The man says that she should just "sleep" anyway, and be comfortable with it. "Some days I can't even trust myself It's killing me to see you this way" This is self explanitory. She can't trust herself to make the right decision about whether to leave or stay, and he doesn't like seeing her that way. He could mean that he feels bad for her, or he doesn't like what she's become, wanting to leave the relationship. "There's an old voice in my head that's holding me back I tell her that I miss our little talks Soon it will all be over, buried with our past You used to play outside when you were young, Full of life and full of love" There is still a part of her that thinks she should stay, which is holding her back from leaving, but also holding her back from achieving what she really wants in life. He says that that part of her is the part that still loves him, and he misses when that part was all of her. She tells him that this conflict will all be over soon, and he tells her that she used to be so different, and the relationship was better then. "Some days I feel like I am wrong and I am right Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear" She says that sometimes she feels like she should stay when she knows in her heart she really should leave, and his part is self explanitory, that he's telling her that her mind is tricking her, telling her not to trust the part that wants her to leave. "Don't listen to a word I say The screams all sound the same" This is the perception each person is getting from the other one. When she sings her lines, he hears "Don't listen to me, all my complaints are the same anyway." She hears the same from him. "You're gone gone gone away I watched you disappear All that's left is a ghost of you Now we're torn torn torn apart, there's nothing we can do Just let me go, we'll meet again soon" She was already unhappy, and she already acknowledged this stuff about him, and she is telling him to just let her go free. "Now wait wait wait for me Please hang around I see you when I fall asleep" He still wants to be with her, and he will continue to dream about her. "'Cause though the truth may vary This ship will carry Our bodies safe to shore" They both have different perceptions on how the relationship ended. He thinks she made a mistake, and that she wasn't the same person anymore, and she thinks she was growing, and matured her way out of the relationship. However, they both realize that in the end, the separation is the best thing for both of them. |
Bowling for Soup – 1985 Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I like this song a lot. I think it's interesting how the music is so uplifting, yet the lyrics are so depressing. It's about a woman who thought she had a bright future ahead of her back in the 80's, but she ended up living a very empty life, and now she's wishing she was back in the 80's again. It's really sad imo. |
Arcade Fire – Rococo Lyrics | 13 years ago |
yeah this song is great |
Bob Dylan – Don't Think Twice, It's All Right Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this is a pretty song, and I think the line "You just kinda wasted my precious time" is hilarious. |
Brad Paisley – Ticks Lyrics | 13 years ago |
He can see half of her butterfly tattoo peeking out of the top of her jeans. I think this song is hilarious. It's basically about a sleazy guy who sees an attractive girl, and is finding a nice way to say he wants to have sex with her. |
Craig Morgan – Almost Home Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is so beautiful. It's about a homeless man whose life is gard, and he's remembering what it used to be. He's lying outside in the cold to die, in hopes of going "home" in Heaven where he can feel like his old self again. In my opinion, this is one of the best songs of all time. |

Colbie Caillat – Older Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Love This Song!!! I love Colbie, but I didn't like how pretty much every song by her is a happy bubbly sunshine song, she's a great writer and those songs are amazing, but she needed something different, and i'm so glad she did a bit of a darker song, I think it's fantastic! absolutely brilliant! |
Miley Cyrus – I Miss You Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Kelly Clarkson – Maybe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm confusing as hell. Yeah I'm north and I'm south. And I'll probably never have it all figured out but what I know is I wasn't meant to walk this road without you. And I promise I'll try, I'll try to give you every little part of me. Every single detail you missed with your eyes. Then maybe the lyrics of this song are amazing |
Alanis Morissette – Right Through You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this is about Dave Coulier, but I don't get the line about "wine dine 69" |
Kelly Clarkson – Chivas Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yeah, Chivas is the alcoholic drink she was drinking on stage at the metal skool concert. She wrote it right before she went onstage. |
Meg & Dia – Monster Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love this song, and I first heard it about an hour ago. I love this song's lyrics, I think people who say it's about rape are right, it's such a sad song. It captured me the second I heard it. |
Rihanna – Question Existing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is a beautilfu song which I think is about hooker who doesn't want her job to define her, and wants to be free. |
Kelly Clarkson – Irvine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
yeah, greenchristine, i kind of got that impression the first time I read the lyrics. This song is so sad. I definitely agree that she's asking God for his attention and wondering if he ever feels the same way she does at times. |
Taylor Swift – Tim McGraw Lyrics | 17 years ago |
tetsco, the message is actually cant tell me nothin, which is probably the Tim McGraw song she danced to with her boyfriend in real life. |

Taylor Swift – Tim McGraw Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Atlantis4485- My local Philadelphia country station is called 92.5 XTU and when it gets to that part she say "someday you'll turn XTU on" CaramelMacchiato- This reminds me A LOT of Strawberry Wine. |
Kelly Clarkson – Never Again Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this is about how her boyfriend who she thought she loved cheated on her and married the other girl. I think she wrote this about the same situation in Behind These Hazel Eyes. |
Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about life during the Industrial Revolution. |
Faith Hill – When The Lights Go Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's about famous celebrities who lose their fame after a while, and the start to live regular lives. |
Augustana – Boston Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think that this song is about being so upset about your life, and having people look down on you for it which just makes it worse, because they have no idea what you're going through, and you just want to get away from it all. |
Taylor Swift – Tied Together with a Smile Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Daughtry – It's Not Over Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is about trying to keep a struggling relationship alive. |
Diana Degarmo – Cardboard Castles Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The Chicks – Bitter End Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think you guys are right, but I think some of it is in the point of view of the fans. |
KT Tunstall – Black Horse and the Cherry Tree Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is about following your heart when deciding between the right thing that you don't want to do, and the wrong thing that you do want to do. The black horse asking her to marry him represents temptation. |
KT Tunstall – Suddenly I See Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I figured it was about seeing someone else do something, and then realizing why you want it, but the line where she says she leaves you hanging on a wire could refer to her own songwriting. |
