In the song, Eleanor Rigby is symbolic of religion. As silly as it sounds when The Beatles reached their peak in the 60s adults and religious leaders thought their music was evil (their were even rallies in America and Britain to burn Beatles albums). The attendance of the Anglican church in England took a downward spiral with huge loses in attendance. Hope that adds some perspective. |
