The Riverboat Gamblers – Biz Loves Sluts Lyrics

sounds to me like a virgin (or similarly unexperienced girl) getting drawn into sex by a sleazy and experienced guy. kind of like the "biz" promising it won't "hurt" to give it up and let the corporate world shape everything they are |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Conversation with Robert Schneider (Will Cullen Hart) Lyrics

i'm not sure if they were under the influence of any substances while this went down (most likely), but it is really funny to listen to. Jeff's point makes a lot of sense actually once you get over how many times they throw in random sentences and words. I think that the things Jeff says tell a lot more about him than we have read in interviews so far and gives a bit of insight into his mind in terms of song writing. funny too when he talks about "if i had a record label" since this was recorded before they got any publicity. |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Communist Daughter Lyrics

i adore this song. it's almost monotone but it's so packed with emotion at the same time and sounds like a heavy trance. it's like jeff has two different voices and this one is a little bit less frustrated and twingy, and more cool.
to me this song feels like a girl who has everything in her life in some way, ruled by somebody or something else. and she feels like she isn't even herself anymore, hence "proves that she must still exist..."
so beautiful. |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone Lyrics

on the unreleased album, Beauty, Jeff talks a lot in between the songs and he said that this was two songs put together, the first one he wrote on a cigarette box while he was waiting for his friend to get off of work. the second one he says is about two people, one who he recently broke up with and another person who was living in LA at the time.
maybe that helps someone's interpretation! |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Oh Comely Lyrics

i have never heard of the word automy or seen it in any dictionary clarifying what it means.
it is very odd that the identity of this word is debated upon so much and it is also one of the few lines that is not clearly stated in the In the Aeroplane Over the Sea CD jacket or on the official site. Maybe Jeff doesn't want us to know what this word is... but it would seem to me since automy has about a 40/60 chance of being a real word, he's probably saying "awe to me". that would probably make sense with the song too since it's talking about an infatuation when these simple things were all this girl needed when "she still believed in [him]" |

Sunset Rubdown – Us Ones in Between Lyrics

beautiful, beautiful song. i also think that it's about intra & inter personal relationships rather than politics.
"For I have never seen the sun
That did not bury his fears in the side of the world.
And the day is done." |

The Hold Steady – You Can Make Him Like You Lyrics

yeah i kind of agree with all of the interpretations. i do see it though as kind of being about, as a young woman, not having to worry about being too serious. the whole "talk about the stars/upcoming sequel" can be seen as just being trivial in a fun, light hearted way or it could be sarcastic in the sense that you're so dumb you don't have anything better to talk about. it just seems like he's telling the girls that they are very empowered in the sense that they don't need to settle for anything they don't like. that they're interesting and attractive the way that they are and "if you get tired of your boyfriend's things" there's always other boys... "there's always other boyfriends." |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Little Birds Lyrics

yeah, i don't think that this song is about jeff personally. there does seem to be some similarities between the character in this song as the one in two headed boy pt. 2
but from what i've read about Jeff from an interview is that he gets a lot of his lyrics and melodies from practicing a kind of relaxation between sleep and awake and images just kind of come to him. so it seems like this might just be a character he's come up with in his imagination or maybe it's about someone he knows, because he also said he wrote songs about people he knew to try and help them... kind of. |

Wolf Parade – You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son Lyrics
| 17 years ago

in an interview with Spencer Krug he says that this song is extremely personal... and that it's about his relationship with his father. that he sees the way his father acts and the effects that it has on the people around him, and that Krug can also see in his own life himself turning out that way, and people being affected in the same way. he said that the line "his bed is made" meaning that he's never going to change.

Wolf Parade – I'll Believe in Anything Lyrics

the lines "i'd take you where nobody knows you and nobody gives a damn" sound extremely erotic to me. as if "i'll take you where no one can see us, and no one will think anything about what you do, because no one cares."
it also seems like it could mean that she's a little bit full of herself and he wants to kind of bring her down to earth. "nobody gives a damn" about you.
it also seems like it could be about someone very superficial because he says "and nobody gives a damn about your blood, your bones, your voice and your ghost". |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Lyrics

this might be obvious, but maybe slightly influential. on the album he hardly refers to anyone as a "man" or "woman". they are usually always referred to as boy or girl which could make someone assume that they were younger. that could possibly lead to the theory of the young boy with two personalities. since its the two headed BOY it might signify someone young who is somewhat unexperienced, naieve, uneducated of the world. these songs could kind of depict his experiences. |

Arcade Fire – No Cars Go Lyrics

i agree with Banjo-Fella. I like to think that this song isn't about death, but its about ending your hectic, crazy day and finding a place where you're all yourself and you're there with your thoughts and the people you love in your mind. it's almost like, no matter what anxiety is being presented in your life "between the click of the light and the start of the dream" nothing can enter or disturb you. no cars, no airplanes...its just you. |

Arcade Fire – (Antichrist Television Blues) Lyrics

i really love this song. it might be my favorite off the new cd... but it took a couple of listens to feel that way. i feel the whole obsessive-stage parent thing. but since i always think its more interesting if songs relate to me, the part that goes-
Little girl, you're old enough to understand
You'll always be a stranger in a strange strange land
Men are going to come while you're fast asleep
So you better just stay close and hold onto me
i got when i was walking to school downtown. i'm only 16 and am constantly hit on by old weird men. and i think that it kind of relates to like... "you're never going to fit in, you're always going to feel out of place, men will try to take advantage of you so you need to cling onto my masculine strength (or whatever)" which is kind of bullshit because i hate being babied or just being that "little girl" who can't take care of herself.
and the part-
So that they can see themselves inside my little girl
is actually really creepy sounding. which i think the song is kind of supposed to be... a corruption of sorts. |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2 Lyrics

i don't know if this has been mentioned yet or not, but it mentions sheets twice in the song. in the beginning it's "sheets warm and wet" also in reference to holding a child to your chest, and as graphic as it may be doesn't that seem like birth? why else why they be warm and wet... and at the end they mention sheets safe and clean.... i wonder what that has to do with anything... |
