Brandon Flowers – Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this tells the story of a man who ran away from his family in favor of the lust and glitz of Las Vegas. I imagine the little girl and the woman he used to know are his daughter and wife, respectively, or perhaps his sister and mother. The bridge is showing the typical, appealing side to Vegas and how alongside it is the darker part you can't ignore. Beautiful song.

"To suffer the strain of the pain that’s old???" is "To suffer the strain of the hangman's hold," I think.

The Killers – Human Lyrics 15 years ago
Guys. It's NOT denser. It's written in the band's official bio as "dancer," and he said in an interview that it's not denser.

"It's taken from a quote by [author Hunter S.] Thompson. ... 'We're raising a generation of dancers,' and I took it and ran. I guess it bothers people that it's not grammatically correct, but I think I'm allowed to do whatever I want," he laughed. " 'Denser'? I hadn't heard that one. I don't like 'denser.' "

It's fixed. The lyric is definitely "dancer," not denser. But I changed it from dancers. So stop commenting about it XD

Morrissey – Trouble Loves Me Lyrics 15 years ago
Seems to me about a relationship that never really started, but that the narrator is very much in love with the subject, while the subject doesn't return it (Trouble loves me, Trouble needs me, Two things more than you do, Or would attempt to).

The line "On the flesh rampage - At your age!" tells that it's, in fact, the subject who's on the rampage, while the narrator is "Faced with the music, as always, I face it," because he's always the one stuck with the short end of the stick.

Still, as much as he tries to be apathetic, he can't deny that "at midnight I can't get you out of my head."

Quite sad, really! But so many of us have been there.

The Killers – Spaceman Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is awesome! Rumored to be their first single off the new album.

I don't think the meaning is that hard to figure out. It definitely sounds inspired by Starman by David Bowie, which is not a bad thing!

The Killers – Daddy's Eyes Lyrics 16 years ago
Definitely about a divorce. The lines that confuse most people, the bit about "that woman's on my back again," sound like she's forcing a divorce. It's obvious that the father cheated and he's trying to explain it to his son, but I think the father sincerely regrets what he did. He understands, though, why his wife's upset, but he still loves her and wishes he could fix it. He hopes his son will understand someday what happened, and not hate his father for his mistake.

Regina Spektor – Us Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with those who believe this is about America and westernization. The opening lines make me think of Mount Rushmore, as if the song is from those presidents' points of view.

Basically, the ideas they started off with made them so famous as to put their faces on a fucking MOUNTAIN, but people don't really care anymore. They "blow bubbles with their gum" and "take photographs," you know, as a lot of tourists do. Nobody quite understands the impact these people once made. And, of course, many cities have been named for the founding fathers.

Now America has changed so far from its original concept, it's now a "den of thieves" but we're "rummaging for answers in the pages" (either the Bible, or the Constitution/Declaration/etc?).

Bruce Springsteen – Dancing In The Dark Lyrics 16 years ago
Just a clarificationf or alwaysanole, or anyone else who was wondering, the "I was dancing when I was 12" is a T. Rex lyric that Pete must've combined with this song, which is pretty neat, I think :)

Coldplay – Lost! Lyrics 16 years ago
This just gives me an overwhelming feeling when I hear it... I can't even describe it. Definitely my favorite that I've heard so far from Viva La Vida.

To me, it sounds like the narrator is handing over his "crown," so to speak, which I think goes in with the theme of kings and battle and such from Violet Hill and Viva La Vida. The narrator is reluctantly about to hand over his crown, but he's saying how he may not have done well his whole life but he tried his best. However, he's telling the receiver not to be so bold, don't think that they cannot make the same mistakes.

Seems to me like it could be the same narrator in Viva La Vida, who was a fallen king.

It might all be metaphoric, which I'm sure it is, but that's how I feel. It reminds me a bit of a character I'm writing for a story, actually, which might be part of why I love it so much.

Coldplay – Violet Hill Lyrics 16 years ago
According to wikipedia, Violet Hill is an area of Hong Kong where hostilities took place during WWII. So I'll go ahead and say that everyone's right, it's most likely a politically charged song, and most likely is referring to this place.

Queen – Some Day One Day Lyrics 16 years ago
One of my favorite Brian songs! Though Queen's completely ace at writing flashy, complex songs, I love the simplicity of this. It sounds like one of those songs that wasn't worked on for hours and hours, but was just done straight through without many changes. Could be wrong, but that's how it feels to me :)

Queen – It's Late Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't think it's necessarily about a relationship gone wrong, but more a one-sided relationship

In the first verse, we discovered the narrator, due to his "sickly pride", won't admit that he loves her back. Perhaps he told her "in the candle light" that he loved her, but didn't necessarily mean it, but was instead caught up in the moment. He thinks he could love her, but it goes against his nature and therefore he won't allow himself.

Second verse, they have a good thing going, but he just can't change. He tries, but still fails, probably because he takes for granted that she'll never leave him. Finally, she says she will, and he's surprised to find his own heart breaking.

The final verse, "with suspicion in your eye," he's finally admitting his love and she almost doesn't believe him, because she's used to his games. But it's his last chance to convince her and to make the final jump into love.

The Killers – Sweet Talk Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with the religious undertones. I think it just has to do with Brandon finding his religion again. He'd stated before that while he considered himself Mormon, he was "trying", as he wasn't necessarily the best example. So I think this song stands as a sort of "coming home" to his spirituality, and not just that but all those things he abandoned from earlier days.

Rufus Wainwright – Tulsa Lyrics 16 years ago
Rufus said it was a fictional gay relationship with Brandon. They met, Brandon said he was flattered by the song, but they didn't actually hook up or anything.

With that said, it's very cute! :)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps Lyrics 17 years ago
I could be off, but a coworker of mine said she heard this song was based on a suicide letter that Karen's ex-boyfriend left her, or something along those lines. When she cries in the video, she really WAS crying.

The Killers – Read My Mind Lyrics 17 years ago
The way I imagine the song is that the narrator (whether it's autobiographical about Flowers or not) is singing to a girl he used to dream with. That is, they probably grew up in a small, unpromising town, and would dream together about the places they'd go and the things they'd do, and then life was too distracting and here they are as adults and it seems the narrator had given up on his dreams. He's convincing the girl that he "never really gave up on breaking out of this two-star town," and he has "a green light" (his opportunity to finally get out).

The lines "it's funny how you just break down/waitin' on some sign" seem to reflect how he'd waited his whole life up until that point waiting for a sign as to what he should do. It seems he always wanted to get out, but imagined life would just change for him, not so much that he had to make his own changes. It's a common tale for many Americans from small towns. Been there done that myself!

At any rate, this is easily my favorite track off Sam's Town. I love the ambition in it, musically and lyrically. Considering Brandon had grown up in a small town himself, it sounds like he poured a lot of his soul into this one, and it really shows. Kudos to them, can't wait to see the video!
