Carolina Liar – I'm Not Over Lyrics 15 years ago
naynay32 asked what these lines meant...
what a waste of time..the thought crossed my mind..but i never missed a beat...cant explain the who or what i was
trying to believe .....

He`s just second-guessing himself on how he spent his time pursuing this chik and now she is gone....Kinda like a "wow" moment...what the heck was i doing??? ...and acknowledging now, that while it was going on...maybe he fleetingly realized that it would end up being a waste of time....(the thought crossed my mind but i never missed a beat) ...he did it anyway...and now he`s having a hard time explaining it (later on the lyrics say...what would you do???) Dazed and confused and wishing she were still there....

Natasha Bedingfield – Unwritten Lyrics 17 years ago
hey mjusiig....

here`s a couple of answers to your ques.

" Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open "

this is simply a play on words... the "unwritten" word versus the "unspoken" word. so if her life is still "unwritten", then it stands to reason she also needs to HEAR the same "words unspoken"... essentially, she needs to embrace and accept the words that she is not only about to write but these same words that haven`t yet been spoken outloud either...to do this she must live her life in the moment

"I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way"

again, figures of speech. she is stating that she is giving herself permission to not be perfect (just like when a child is told to color inside the lines) her tries are outside [of] the lines. Further emphasized by the lyrics.... "we`ve been conditioned to not make mistakes... i can`t live that way."

This is one of my fav. songs to listen to when i`m running. it makes me think of looking into the sunshine and embracing what`s ahead....

Better Than Ezra – Desperately Wanting Lyrics 17 years ago
i try to keep an open mind with lyrics cuz everone has different life experiences to filter things thru. i can see how it could relate to pledging cuz you`re at the mercy of the brotherhood until you are initiated. pledging can both pull you together with your pledgeclass and at the same time mess with your mind and there are a number of pledges (for WHATEVER reasons) who regretfully drop out & don`t make it to brotherhood. The singer, now older and wiser is looking back & reflecting on this period of time (figured out some things you`ll never know) is definitely remembering a time gone by but with keener insight & maturity that comes with time.

NOW...having said all that, i am leaning more towards jaymac`s interpretation but with a slightly different angle that makes far more sense.

it`s my belief that this song is about a girl (best friend) the singer used to "run" with, who may have had struggled with personal issues growing up but is now married in an abusive home. "...the house that you never called home". AGREED.. it indicates that she never really feels safe there. AGREED she seemsunaware that she is even being abused, AGREED this is often the case with truely abused people; they don`t know any differently and think their reality is normal.

As time goes on, the girl meets back up with the singer (AGREED her best friend perhaps) & together they run through the grass, never tiring, AGREED almost as an escape from the reality of her life. Also note that it is her escape as the singer tries to keep up with her... "falling a step behind"....

My take on the pills, is not so literal. i think it just represents a break with reality, drug or drinking binge, things a deeper form of self medication... or AGREED her 'escape' has simply become much darker than the innocent grass running routine.

Apparently, at some stage she cuts the singer out of her life... AGREED This is made clear in the lines;
"Oh the letters dropped off
though they say you got them all

She no longer was capable of making contact with him.

Frustrated he mentally coaches her to fight back with the lines "kick them in the face... " make them wish they weren`t born"...knowing it`s the right thing with the line "they`ll say you won the war"

The line, baby burst in the world, never given a chance.... never had it right" means she had a child and now the baby is part of the abuse, it was never given a choice and will meet the same fate cuz she hasn`t been able to figure things out for herself let alone the new baby.

As for the door, AGREED that he is asking her to trust him. She has problems trusting anyone because the people she once trusted most have hurt her so terribly. He's asking her to let him inside, and together they will find a way out of this mess.

AGREED One major objection to the frat idea comes from the constant use of the words "both of us," which seem to indicate a deeper relationship that exists between only two people. NOTE: Every "Greek" knows that pledge classes refer to themselves as "one".

Rise Against – Swing Life Away Lyrics 17 years ago
Isn`t this song just so about the cycle of friendship? how you meet meet people and not sure whether you get them or they get you, then you share/compare scars and bond with them... then you look beyond the hurts and live in the moment, swinging life away as you live & dream and make your plans for life. I luv this song...

Rise Against – Paper Wings Lyrics 17 years ago
is this the life that you lead, or the life thats lead for you?
will you take the road thats been laid out before you?
will we cross paths somewhere else tonight?
somewhere else tonight....

It`s cosmic. I think he`s met a girl that desires and he is challenging her to leave her dead end life. He asks her whether she is really "leading" her life or is someone else telling her what to do next. Is she going to just continue heading in the same unchallenged direction or is she going to break free and go where destiny is calling. Regardless, he is leaving & if it really is fate for them to be together, their lives will intersect (cross paths) somewhere else. But it has to be her decision to go...

Finger Eleven – One Thing Lyrics 17 years ago
Even though I know
I don’t want to know
Yeah I guess I know
I just hate how it sounds

This is someone who`s not happy in his current relationship, but is in denial. He`s with the wrong person and possibly unhappily living the wrong life. he regrets this and thinks he would be willing to trade it all to be with someone else... possibly someone he has always desired, but he`s still afraid to take the chance cuz he says "maybe i might not walk on by, maybe next time, but not this time." He`s never going to cross that line.... and he hates to admit that he`s not happy.
