Villagers – Twenty Seven Strangers Lyrics | 13 years ago |
shlaybe - absolutely, and I didn't even make that connection before you wrote that! It's pretty clear to me now, the fact that the bus breaks down at the graveyard could mean that there the twenty seven strangers separate - meaning they die? I think that really makes sense, the beginning of the song, they're all waiting for the bus and the bus-ride is their lives and they get off at the graveyard at the end. Such a lovely song, so simple, and yet so full of meaning! |
Joanna Newsom – Ribbon Bows Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The song that she's singing about; "them city girls with their ribbon bows and their fancy sash" is the song "Ribbon Bow" by Karen Dalton. It's truly a fantastic and very tragic song. |

^ Ok, fixed it! I'm not a native English speaker so it's hard for me to make out the words! |
Conor Oberst – Breezy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song was sad before I knew what it's about. But now that I know it's even sadder, I hate that people have to die young. I hate that people have to die at all. |
Bright Eyes – Southern State Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song doesn't have to be about anyone in particular, it could just be those three people combined. (Conor, Maria, Andy) The whole theme goes into "motion sickness", the idea of just touring from town to town, never staying at one place too long and never relating to anyone. I could go for the idea that it could be an autobiographical song, but really, I just think it's a song about someone touring and feeling very lonley. It's a beautiful song, one of my absolute favorites. |
Devendra Banhart – Chinese Children Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To me this song is simply saying that "wherever I go, I will always be the same, I will always have the same child inside of me". He's saying that we all have a child inside of us and that wherever we go it'll be the same child. It makes sense to me. |
Bright Eyes – Lime Tree Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"I felt something that I had never touched" He felt a baby kick but he will never hold this baby in hands. This is the first time I really listen to this song and read the lyrics along as he sings them and now I think this is my favourite song on cassadaga mostly because the lyrics and the whole feeling of it. As triple07 said it really feels like a dream, like you're not sure what's real or not. And I, who have no own experience but imagine, guess this could be the reality of going through an abortion in some way. Because you have this baby, this life who suddenly isn't there anymore. It's like mourning for a stranger that's still the closest you've ever been. (Maybe I'm talking just for the mother here, but I imagine this is somewhat the feeling of the father too) "I took off my shoes and walked into the woods I felt lost and found with every step I took" I think it's about accepting and moving on. |
Bright Eyes – I Must Belong Somewhere Lyrics | 17 years ago |
From my opinion this song is about that were all kind of letting everything continue 'cause we don't think it concernces us to much to care. But still it's about that we can't be too worried about everything either. So it's kind of a double message. |

Can somebody please send this song to me? The lyrics are so amazing that I had to make up a whole song of it and did it to my own! I'm really curious of how it really sounds, uhm, anyone? |

Bright Eyes – Motion Sickness Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I was listening to this song when I realized something, "I keep running when all I want is to lay motionless", with that he means he's always touring and want to go home and rest. And then, comes the live album and it's called "motion sickness" - like how he just keep running around from place to place playing. |
Bright Eyes – Easy/Lucky/Free Lyrics | 17 years ago |
When reading your comments I suddenly realized something. There is two themes on these two albums (I'm wide awake & Digital ash) - Death and what's happening to the world. For example, in at the bottom of everything Conor describes death as "a birthday party" kind of like a "deathday party" though. (bad joke) Anyways, what he means his that we're all so afraid of what's lying infront of us and we're all so anxious that we'll come to hell and all that sort of stuff. And what's happening to the world -with that I mean that like Conor mentions in Landlocked Blues "Televized wars", nowadays we just put on the TV and people are litterly being killed infront of our eyes. And music is turning into just a background of the commercials, like music is some kind of moneymaker concept. Well yeah, I think you get my point. |
Bright Eyes – I Will Be Grateful for This Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think it's about Elliott, and let me tell you why: "He put a needle in his arm to calm his handsome hell Who would've imagined it Could've worked out so well?" I deffinetly think it sounds like his friend died because of the drugs. Why did Elliott die? By a knife in his heart. And second of all, I don't think it was suicide because from what I heard it would have been impossible for Elliott to put the knife in his heart like he did. On the other hand I am very posetive to the idea that it is about Neely, because the part about the drumsets. Conor played drums in Park Ave. |
Bright Eyes – A Scale, a Mirror, and Those Indifferent Clocks Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Once the page of a calendar is turned it’s no more So tell me, then, what was it for?" I think he means that when a period of time (like a month which calenders are usually sorted by) is over it's just over and when you've turned that page in the calender you understand that the calender wasn't that importent. Like when you turn the last page of the calender there was no meaning of buying it really in the first place. Okey, maybe I'm just talking alot of shit. Well, just the picture I got. |

Bright Eyes – Entry Way Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Last Saturday I stood in your entry way A place where we used to wait For cars to carry us away Like once in this storm They drove me and Justin home" It's abvious that it's about someone he knew as a child, it doesn't have to be his dad but it could be. Though I truly don't if when Conor sings: "So don't you say to me That life's a trap The future is nothing but a tragedy Because I'll be out of that window Yeah, I'll start wishing to die again" I don't think his parents would say anything like that, but who knows. Well, it is deffinetly one of my favourite songs and I love the metaporhs. |
Bright Eyes – Drunk Kid Catholic Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The person who said Conor is catholic doesn't know what he/she is saying. He is agnostic. He did not chose to go to catholic school - his parents did, and from what I heard he hated it. |
