Sufjan Stevens – Romulus Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is the only song that has ever almost made me cry. For some reason, "I was ashamed, I was ashamed of her" just hit me deep... The bit about the VCR is brilliant, but then so is the edntire song. Like velvetlies said, it's like a 5 minute movie. |
Sufjan Stevens – The Henney Buggy Band Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'd love for more comments on what people think this song actually means, but unfortunately I must be with the other who have no clue, but it seems to have a lot of connections to childhood innocence or remembering/returning to that sort of simplistic state and not letting other things get in the way and complicate everything. My favorite part in the song is the way "smile" sounds (also the phrases "catastrophic smile" and "life with your colorful surprises") |
Sufjan Stevens – Holland Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love this song-- it's very calming and soothing for me to listen to, and reminds me of quiet foggy mornings walking to school. My favorite part is the simplistic phrasing that sort of emphasizes all the love I see underneath the lyrics. As NorthWriter said, the "space between the lines" |
Sufjan Stevens – The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Oh, and the "man of steel, man of heart" could be how he is Superman, superhero-protector (man of steel), but also Clark Kent, capable of love (man of heart) |
Sufjan Stevens – The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song always seemed sort of melancholy to me. I see it (partly) as about Superman and how he can't ever date/marry Lois Lane as Clark Kent because he's not a "real man", i.e. not human. ("Only a real man can be a lover") Though there's a lot of other things that don't seem to correlate with this in the song. |
As Tall as Lions – Break Blossom Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is really sad, but still beautiful. I am officially addicted to As Tall As Lions from this song & Deep Sleeper. |
Mirah – Jerusalem Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is one of my favorite Mirah songs, and indeed definitely my favorite anti-war song. It's not bitter, just kinda like, "Hey guys, remember this?" |
Switchfoot – Something More (augustine's Confession) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I have to say, this has been one of my favorite Switchfoot songs. But anyway, Saint Augustine actually wrote an autobiography entitled "Confession", detailing his sinful early life, various attempts at other religions, and conversion to Chrstianity. (Basically a confession about his entire life.) |
